The Wall is so theatrical, over the top, and over produced that I get why some people dislike it. However I'm curious, to the people here who hate The Wall...do you like the more traditional Floyd songs on the album? Another Brick In The Wall, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, etc?

I think it's a really good album but as I said, haven't heard it in awhile. But it doesn't really compare to stuff like Meddle, DSOTM, Wish You Were Here, etc.

This would apply if MJ actually made great music, but there's also another reason it doesn't apply..

For the pedo-genius principle to apply, I believe you have to somehow acknowledge your perversion in your art, even if only once. Show that you aren't afraid of it. Not only did MJ fail to do this, but he wrote ridiculous songs like The Girl is Mine that implied he was into chicks. If MJ wanted to be a true genius, he'd write songs relevant to his actual life, like maybe a song about burying himself in the bottom of a McDonald's Playland ball pit and hoping that a couple toddlers would piss themselves while he was down there.

Also, I"d like to nominate everything by The Eagles for this thread. I'd like to say they're overrated, but I don't know anyone in real life that actually likes them. Yet somehow they have some of the best selling albums of all time, and their shitrock was played all over the fucking radio when people listened to the radio. Where are these fans? I'm assuming the fans must be some large demographic group I don't interact with, like hillbilly country fans that maybe found a crossover rock act.

ajfa is the culmination of their wanting to make more methodical, structurally dense music that started on master, except where the latter had more genuine thrash cuts to chop up the pacing and actual elaborate composition in parts, ajfa doesn’t have the strength in writing to justify itself. Every track is three minutes longer than it has any reason being and they aren’t even that much more intricate than the stuff they were doing on their first two lps. The black album gets pointed to as the moment everything started going south but there were signs well before then, and even before cliff died, that they were pivoting away from the punk + Nwobhm fusion of thrash that made them fun; those guys at their best is motorbreath, trapped under ice, and battery and they start to gradually lose whatever thrash impulse they have left after they kick mustaine out (this helps explain why the four horsemen went the way it did compared to the <<<<<<<<< version of it in the og mechanix).

I do like the guitar tone they go with on ajfa
