But I voted for La La Land — the cinematography really elevated the movie.

She's right about that. I'm still waiting for someone to upload the opening/"Another Day of Sun" scene to Youtube. Pretty impressive they pulled off that dance number on an actual LA freeway.

It's also funny that many people are criticizing her because she didn't have like paragraphs upon paragraphs explaining herself.

I just did coverage for one of my script classess. The coverage critique part was supposed to be a quick and concise paragraph. Not an overwrought forum post.

I feel like this is the perfect time for people to never mention Milo again and he'll just fade away, but GAF has 4 active topics about him on the first 2 pages of OT at any given time.

Well, let's make it worth the time then.

New Ghostbusters sucked and nobody would care about Kate McKinnon if she didn't lick lady pie. She's the less-comedy version of David Spade to Melissa McCarthy's less-coked Chris Farley.

Idk, Kate is by far the highlight of SNL unless Alec Baldwin is on. She's also been a highlight in any movie she's popped up in. I don't think her being a lesbian has anything to do with why people like her. She's a funny lady.

Hadn't really thought of Leslie Jones as the female Tracy Morgan, but now that it's mentioned, I agree.

When I see threads where large chunks of GAF express the position that we're all (Westerners) poorer than people who lived in the 1960s because "technology doesn't count, everyone benefits...also student loans!!!" it kinda puts a broader perspective on when they actively try to be so personally miserable about every single topic.

Each January, the entertainment community and film fans around the world turn their attention to the Academy Awards. Interest and anticipation builds to a fevered pitch leading up to the Oscar telecast in February, when hundreds of millions of movie lovers tune in to watch the glamorous ceremony and learn who will receive the highest honors in filmmaking.
I don't think The Academy even knows what the Oscars are supposed to be for other than a reason to hold the event.

1. The Departed might be a sorry award to Marty, but it was as a fun movie to watch. Of the movies in its category that year, it should have won. But Casino Royale should have been nominated and the winner, imo.

2. Whiplash is the best movie of the 21st century so far.

So how do begin to counter this trend? A Ted Talk seminar, or something along the lines of what happened at last year's E3. where you had speakers wearing rainbow lapels in solidarity to the victims at the Pulse nightclub? How do those who want to stem this tide go about exacting that "have you no decency moment" that will shock the collective population into taking more notice?

I paid little to Gamergate and the blowout that followed until I began reading about it here on this and other threads. It's par for the course that people can be assholes in multiplay, but how does one realistically address the issue wholesale without alienating the a great chunk of their demographic?

Watching enthusiastic E3 crowds now takes on a whole new dimension in retrospect.
Developers should have spoken out in blunt and strong fashion even if it meant risking profits, Game media should have done the same, it was all conjecture, bullshit, sexism and harassment and should have been treated as such from day fucking one.
it's so cute how they think gamergate was like an actual thing

Could the election of Donald Trump prompt the industry into taking a long, hard look, now that the controversy surrounding Milo has elevated the profile of gamergate? I'm hoping for a moment akin to the film Trumbo, where the titular character begins to right the course by screenwriting Roman Holiday, and later, Spartacus, alongside Kirk Douglas.

From last week :

Quote
I stopped using GAF on my phone because of redirecting (and shady) ads that made it literally impossible to browse the site.

Quote
Those ads I noted a few posts earlier now close my keyboard close the moment I start typing, making filling out that response form impossible.

Quote
Im getting App Store redirects at least once per visit. It's fucking absurd.

Quote
Was gone for a few days, now back with some spinning wheel ad that vibrates the phone like crazy.

Quote
Quote
Another week and no public response. Nice.

Maybe we can make it a month! I'm so excited!

 :lol

Quote
Alright, good to know that mobile garbage is seemingly normal. I get automatic redirects to the App Store all the time, at least 4 times today so far.

Quote
FFS, I just got multiple 'you've won a prize' redirects.

Quote
NeoGAF is fucking killing my phone. Jesus Christ man.

Quote
Yeh I'm getting redirects almost every thread I go into, not this one thankfully otherwise I couldn't even report this. Can't browse the forums like this at all.

Quote
Getting forced redirects from Chrome mobile, frustrating I can't even read a single post.

Quote
Impossible to report because when you go back to neogaf, obviously another ad is showing.

Quote
Edit: it happened again as soon as I posted this reply ffs. "android user your phone battery is damaged" "spin the wheel to win an I phone"
What a load of shit.

Quote
I am getting redirect ads whoch cause my phone to vibrate nearly every time I click a thread.
I can't even really browse on my phone.

Quote
The fuck are the ads doing redirecting my webpage? On safari mobile. Shit is unuseable.

Quote
A neogaf ad just directed me to a video of some chick taking it up the bum.

Quote
How is this still happening. It's been like two years now of NeoGAF randomly going to malware hell on mobile for days at a time.

Quote
Almost every other page view of the OT forum is either giving you a fake "you're infected" malware ad or a redirect that you can't escaped from. The "report this ad" link is no use because you can't navigate back to it.

Quote
Still happening. Sorry, but this has been happening for too long now. Do let me know when it's fixed.

Quote
It's probably a 3rd party, but does it really matter at this point? It's been weeks with no action or response.

Quote
I'm going to note right up front that I'm not really a Bill Maher fan in the least and have next to no desire to go to bat for him. Having said that, I think this particular line has me simultaneously scratching my head a little bit and also sort of feeling like we're losing the narrative.

One thing I want to note about Milo is that I kind of reject the narrative that he crossed a line with those specific comments about pedophilia. Really, if anything I find the story of his demise just kind of funny in that I think it really cuts off the legs of the people who were defending him this whole time because they thought it was funny that he was poking the liberal hive. I mean, I can't speak for every single person on the left, but my own position is one of not necessarily thinking that we need to forcefully prevent him from having a platform in as much as I just simply think he doesn't deserve a platform. This isn't me clutching my pearls and saying "he offends me, somebody shut him up!" This is me simply dismissing his opinions as vile trash and wishing he didn't have a megaphone to amplify them.

So it was honestly kind of funny to me watching this go down. Seeing some conservatives slowly having to face the reality that's been in front of them this whole time. That this isn't some black and white battle where you have to embrace that free speech must absolutely be defended in every instance lest you give up on the ideal completely. That there actually are standards of decency that should be respected. It's way less important to me that we explicitly define where the lines in the sand exist than that we simply recognize that there are lines in the sand. CPAC and Simon & Schuster just had to acknowledge that fact with Milo. That was the story to me.

The specifics of what sunk Milo are way less interesting to me.

You can go back to 2006-2008 era GAF and find posts from members who are still around and a few have some shitty and regressive opinions on gay marriage or transgender rights. Not outright bigotry but the type of opinions and concern trolling that would get them perma'd today.

I just find it funny GAF feels so gung ho about witch hunts when some of them wouldn't hold up to that kind of scrutiny. Throwing stones and glass houses and all that.

Well, now Bill Maher is alt right.

Need more floor paint.

I'm 99.9% sure that's a troll account.

You don't have to go back that much

This is a ban today

10 pages of hand wringing over basic manners and appropriate behavior in public.  It's no wonder why practically every woman who actively posts on GAF is eventually driven away.  Ask Devo, Antimonitor, Nintendoll, etc.

Feral nerds are the fucking worst.

I love threads that open with the indisputable logic of Nancy Reagan.  "Just say no!"  Don't explore the issue, don't explain with critical thinking, and certainly don't build a persuasive argument that goes beyond base emotional reaction.

Imagine if you wanted to read more news on the mass vandalism of Jewish headstones and all the article provided was "Bad.  Don't do this."
sigh

Just compare the reactions to Milo (and now Maher) with the ones to Alison Rapp. Fairly amusing.
