I'm all for better representation in games, but that RDR2 thread is a utter clusterfuck. And it happens in nearly every single thread for a big game.

We haven't even see the trailer yet and people were flipping out. I mean who says the guys on the poster are the protags? they could be the guys your character is fighting. They could be your posse in MP.
This is what I was trying to find out.  Has Rockstar stated that the dudes in the poster are playable?

GAF has become fully capable of conjuring it's own boogiemen out of the ether at this point.

The self-profess "Nexus of Hardcore Gamers" can't even talk about the biggest game announcement of the year because of boogieman identity politics  fostered and encouraged by the mod team :neogaf

The mods are almost entirely to blame for that toxic environment, but they're to stuck up their own asses to ever self-reflect and realize that.

Why is there even any sort of argument happening over RDR2?  It's a single piece of art.  It's not a screenshot, is it?  There's zero information about the game out there other than it's happening and there's a trailer on the way.  For all we know the lead character could be any race or gender.  It could be a configurable character.  We won't know until Thursday, maybe not even then!

How the is there bickering when there is literally nothing to bicker about?

Fucking Lime is allowed to get away with murder for some reason, maybe Dennis is right.

I'm sure most of them are sincere, but some--fucking Lime--do it to ban bait and to start shit.

Lime's probably laughing his ass off right now with his recent handiwork in the now locked RDR2 thread.

Sometimes I wonder how many people on GAF doing that shit are doing it as a joke. I've completely lost the ability to decipher what is or isn't parody on GAF.

It's REALLY fun, Stro.

One of the most anticipated games of the past 5 years was announced today and arguably the biggest video game forum doesn't have a thread about it because... why.

If Evilore really is concerned about traffic and revenue he should be spitting nails at the moderators right now.

The trajectory of the site is set in stone at this point unless he's ready to dump 50% of the mods and loosen the bolts a bit.  His userbase couldn't keep their shit together for a new piece of art, Lore is getting what he deserves for cultivating this shitshow     :lol

I'm excited to see what Rockstar pulls off with their first current gen open world game.  Shit is going to be bananas.

I sure do.  RDR was great

And based on GTAV's sales numbers and the revenue GTAO pulls in, a lot of people give quite a few shits

Considering GTAV has sold over 35 million copies last time they announced sales. Then I think people still give a shit.

Probably one of the only game devs who can just show a picture on their website and have the internet going crazy.

The last Rockstar game that even modestly intrigued me was GTA Advance. Oh no wait, Midnight Club 2 came out later.

But hey, I guess thats what happens when you are no longer a teen.

In Rockstars defence, theres a new crop of 15 year olds every year to sell to I guess.

I had no hype for GTAV after how shit GTAIV was, but it's a return to form in my opinion. And it was and still is a massive success, so I guess I'm not alone.

Rockstar remains one of the biggest third-party AAA devs that hold some of the biggest franchises to date. Rockstar & GTA have also been ingrained in the mainstream going on decades and critically acclaimed by the mainstream and review outlets.

Eh, they released like 1.5 games on the Wii, the most mainstream successful console of all time.

If youre a Nintendo family (as my household proudly is), theyre about as relevant as Midway. They sort of died out around 2001.

A lot of grey names on the first page of the RDR2 thread

Including Sn4ke_911. Anybody know what is going on?

Edit: Well, grey names on all the pages.

Some hint there.

I mean the answer to that poll has to be "gender/diversity" considering there are meltdowns happening before anything is even known about it.  Even by GAF's weird and creepy standards that's pretty outlandish.

I mean, you're judging whether Rockstar still has it from your personal enjoyment of a game that came out ~8 years ago.* :ufup

I mean, sure. But his point was a more flippant comment about people caring about Rockstar: Which I agree with. 360-era Rockstar did nothing for me. Max Payne 3 killed a series I enjoyed (I know Morma will come to defend it, but...), GTA4 wasn't as good as GTA1-3 and it's "expansions" outings.

Maybe GTA5 is good. But at this point I'm basically waiting for Rockstar to put that on a deep (DEEP) discount on Steam after how badly burned I was by 4 and Max Payne. I still have LA Noire to go through, which general opinion is pretty divided on last I heard.

I still personally would rather have played a Mafia in the classic Mafia style, instead of going for the black mafia bs.

The story and setup seems well done in Mafia3, but I always said that this new direction Mafia 3 took it in was a mistake. Italian mafia > all other forms of mafia.

Why is it so bad that not all games have a black protagonist, or a female, or a gay one, or a asian one. Does that make it bad content? Ill enjoy any content if its just good, I personally dont care about if any media is diverse. I just want to enjoy what Im playing/watching/listening too.

It doesn't. Shoe-horning those minorities in when it's clear (like Mafia 3's) is the problem. And I think the "SJW menace" (ugh) doesn't understand that. I don't think the Trumpeters cared about CJ being black in San Andreas back in the day.

What makes you think you are entitled to a female/ PoC protagonist. This is Rockstar's vision and they should be allowed to make the game with whatever protagonist they choose. They don't owe you anything. Tired of this PC outrage.

Never mind that Lime couldn't wait for actual info on the game to come out. A teaser image is all we need.

The same topic was posted yesterday iirc. Not sure if that thread also got closed.

 - GAF, where arguing the futility of tokenism to address systemic issues is a bannable offense.

Whats fascinating about the GAF collective and their thought/opinion moderators propping them up is how short-sighted they are in their supposed advocacy. Heart is in the right place, I just don't know where they left their brains?

I am 110% sure Lime is a genuine troll.

Always in early in the thread with the carefully executed derail. Then exit.

A few years back he/she shared my taste in hardcore PC games. We still do.

But the troll persona suddenly emerged one day. And here we are.

I am perma-banned and Lime jerks the moderation team around on a leash.

Alternative option: Lime = Dragona

There are a couple of posters like this. Angelus Errare is another...Though he pushed a bit too hard and caught a slap on the wrist recently.

Some of the moderation team are just so responsive to emotional triggers that it is pretty easy to goat a ban of someone if you know the triggers. Lime seems to be a master. Gotta give the douche some credit lol!

It's so easy to trigger and derail people on GAF that hell, why not troll?  These people will fall for the bait every time.

Fucking idiot. Let's not count salaries, marketing, licenses, talent, insurance for all workers, a building, a lot of Internet bandwidth, etc.

If EA is making over .08 cents on the dollar then they are the only ones...
YMMV

GAF's inability to comprehend or incorporate overhead is one of the funniest things about their financial analyses that they like to conduct.
