IQ is mostly bullshit, IMO.

The origins of IQ are uncertain and it's hard to say exactly what it "is", but it's heavily supported to be very meaningful. A lot of the knee-jerk dismissals of it have been shut down time and again.

The idea of measuring intelligence is bizarre to me but IQ does have strong backing over time. As long as you understand that individual test variance occurs and it's not measuring all types of intelligence then you're good. There will be individual flaws, because you're asking questions that assume certain things where life experience may change those assumptions, but over time they've tried to refine and improve questions and process.

Being a computer person I tried to analogize some of this with computing terms.  Long term memory = hard drive.  Short/mid term memory = RAM.  Working memory (where genius/prodigy seems to thrive) = L1/L2 processor cache.

I thought it was really interesting that IQ test results among prodigies varied widely whereas their working memories consistently tested at the top.

It doesn't invalidate IQ but it does show that it's a piece of a larger picture when it comes to mapping/measuring a person's intelligence.

You could argue that working memory is the type of intelligence that helps produce the other types of intelligence and that would be why it's consistently high in prodigies. Anyone around in 1989-1992 saw something pretty epic happen in music, the transition, almost overnight of rock music. While thrash remained in its corner, chugging along, the super popular hair metal bands (Van Halen, Europe, GnR, Rat, Montley Krue, etc) all took a huge popularity hit as Seattle pumped out a new sound, Grunge.

Nirvana, SoundGarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam. These five bands were huge and mega popular with their sound which was totally different than what was popular just a few years earlier.

Kurt Cobain- lead singer of Nirvana is gone

Layne Staley- Lead singer of Alice in Chains, gone

Scott Weiland- Lead singer of STP, gone

And now Chris Cornell, leader singer of Soundgarden, gone.

Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam is the last man left of those “founding” mega groups of grunge music. It really feels like it’s the end of an era and possibly of a genre.

If you don't count their reunion throwaways the first four bands released a combination of one album this century. Yet nobody mentions this for the first two pages at least.

You know, it kinda pisses me off when I see japanese named restaurants and you can clearly hear everyone there speaking chinese. It feels like they purposely try to scam you because you can't tell the difference just by looking. But then I realize i'm just kinda prejudiced towards chinese knockoffs in general. There's a place I actually love and I know they're all chinese, but they make some fusion between japanese and mediterranean which is really nice and also at a very fair price.

This lady obviously has a drinking and anger problem (I'm not judging, we all have flaws)

A year or two in jail might have calmed her down, got her off the drugs, re-focused her life and allowed her to be the intelligent and productive individual I'm sure she is capable of anyway. The outcome of jail is not always a lifetime of pain, despite added difficulties. So that's not necessarily the best argument against her receiving some time in this case.
