Well, I guess "saying REALLY stupid shit" is one way of describing multiple million dollar sexual harassment lawsuits and settlements.

GAF in general seems to have this notion that winning ratings wars matters in the news business more than making money (while at the same time yelling "ITS ALL FOR MONEY IGNORE IT"), like if someone stops watching Fox because it's Tucker instead of O'Reilly, they head over to CNN or MSNBC instead of just not watching cable talking heads. Either that or they seem to think all those catheter/vaginal mesh lawsuit ads are aimed at the 25-54 demographic that gets the topline in ratings reports.

Fox dumped two of the five highest paid nightly people (Megyn Kelly and then O'Reilly) and band-aided it over with their Tucker Carlson band-aid and then bumped up the once band-aid that was hastily assembled from random people to patch the ol Beck Hole (don't google...or do? :phil) and their overall ratings have only taken a hit because of a half million that dropped off with O'Reilly, even when he had substitute hosts. Otherwise they've held steady. The difference has been that MSNBC boosted after Trump won. (Something he does get to finally noticing near the end...these shows always do better when they don't have to defend shit and can just harmlessly outrage.)

And as soon as Fox News does down, the GOP will no longer have an easy way to spread their propaganda.

This is also funny, because Fox, at its peak in the early days of the Obama Terror, was pulling in like three and a half million total viewers during O'Reilly. Last Thursday, Tucker got 2.7 million.

Some Democrats probably spend more time paying attention and actually listening to what's said on Fox News than the average Fox News watcher. Let alone the GOP voter, or conservative die-hard.

Please be okay Manchester. I saw my first concert at that arena, back when it was the Nynex. Saw a fair few others there too, for the six or so years I was living in Manchester. I still miss that city.

Been to many shows there. Adele last year and The Weeknd just a few weeks ago.
You don't think something like this would happen in a venue you have had many happy memories at.

All my friends in the area seem to be safe, including a friend of mine who has been to over 2000 concerts, who was my number one concern, obviously.

It was probably like a car back fire sample that got piped through the speaker and blew it up and everybody shat themselves creating a mass panic (i hope!).

If it was an armed dude going nuts we would of heard about it sooner than an hour, think about the last times a terrorist incident happened it came out really fast.

It's weird nothing about this seems like a bomb in terms of the lack of damage and nobody saw the blast.

I am in the city centre at the moment. Fortunately I was not near the venue, but the sudden palpable atmosphere here is rather surreal and terrifying, made worse by the constant sound of sirens nearby. Everyone has just stopped talking and are glued to the news, afraid of moving.

Sooooooo....according to an eye witness on BBC News (inside the venue), the concert had just ended when the "noise" occurred. And then someone screamed "it's a bomb" and then panic ensured.

She reports that there was no smoke, light, or smell from the noise....just the "sound " (from her point of view, at least)

I'm a very anxious person but walking around Manchester City centre the past few days I could just see so many opportunities for terrorists to strike whether it's the main high street which had zero police presence on Sunday or the train stations where zero checks are made of luggage. Unrelated, but never do these transactions at your home. He now knows where you live and what's inside your house.

I mean I get the sentiment and yeah it's not ridiculous advice but it's not always convenient or feasible to conduct transactions in a public parking at 3am. Lots of scams on classified ads but really 90%+ of transactions are probably going fine and most scammers are not hardened burglars or serial killers.

Slightly game-related aside to this awful event- Tom Philips from Eurogamer tweeted last night about how awful it was, and the only reply to his tweet was by this guy implying that if it was a terrorist attack, there would be some sort of white uprising against muslims and immigrants etc.

I look at this guy's profile and he's a full on racist, retweeting English Defence League, white power stuff etc, so I reply to him and call him out for hijacking a terrible event for far right political gain. Anyway, a few minutes later I try to find Tom Philip's original tweet and... he's blocked me. Like, a journalist from Eurogamer blocked me because I confronted someone else for being racist. If he was annoyed by the tweet notifications, he could have just muted me- the blocking implies he agrees with the Islamophobia being spewed by the racist guy.

This is an amazing post.

The only reason religion is fading away in the west is because we don't force it on people, and most importantly because we also don't try to stifle it. Repress people's views and opinions, especially in a matter religious people view as more important than life itself, and you'll run into extreme reactions. We need to get governments and education systems into a place that teaches both science and religion, allowing everyone to make up their own minds, and not judge anyone one way or another. Religion will never vanish because spirituality is a big part of being human and we all get in touch with that through various means. But by not enforcing or persecuting religion we should be able to reach the sort of happy balance we (mostly) have in the west.
