To keep it short, some club mates, classmates, "friends" decided to get together for a house party.

Mind you, this is an African American History Club and it has a lot to do with my experience.

Disclaimer: I'm black

Anyways, all starts off good. I get​ the house, and it's owned by an African woman and some European guy. They host a few of our Congolese African classmates. The house is big and by the beach, just beautiful.

I get there and start having drinks with a guy named, let's just say, Jonathan. We were classmates and he is club organizer. We drink a bit before the party really starts to ramp up, literally starts to tell people I'm quirky. I am, but I understand why I am. Things get annoying after that, but I'm still drinking and having a good time.

After​ everything moves to the basement, the club President, let's say, Danny, comes in and starts drinking with us guys and girls. We are all in the basement dancing, etc.

After a while, Danny and Jonathan come together and start talking about me and how I'm not really black because I'm​ proper speaking and pretty logical. This pretty much ruins my vibe and I stay to get really sober.

A girl in my club that remembered me really well starts to dance with me after flirting. She tells me how much she loves me, tries to get her arm between mine, but I block it, then she grabs my crotch, realized I wasn't interested and walked away really frustrated. I played it off. I didn't want my night to end with sex.

Danny and Jonathan pick up on what happened and start spreading the narrative that I'm gay, really white, that I don't like black people, then they Danny comes up to me while I'm laying down on couch and kept yelling "fuck your life". I ignored it the whole time. Later on, he throws a metal lined bottle cap at my head full force.

I'm just annoyed by all of this. I was rejected bécasse I'm not black enough for them or some shit, but they don't even know that, apart from my voice and way of doing things, our experiences in life are almost the same. I don't act like I'm better than other black people, but for some reason, these folks just couldn't understand that.

For the record, Jonathan rolled his Ford Explorer into the European guy's​ Infinity G35 and did a hit and run. Danny was drinking and driving and I don't know what happened to him.

I'm not even sure what I did wrong here.

The Switch is a life-changing revelation that I can honestly say didn't just change my outlook on gaming, but on life itself. Who would have ever thought of this concept, taking games on the go. Oh I agree with your sentiment, absolutely. I guess I'm just tired of the GAF hot take that people in one specific geographical area can be written off completely, or that a person who works in the coal or auto industry can just "change jobs," "should have gone to college," or people living in rural need to "just move" to get away from toxic geographical political ideology. It's one thing to say that from behind an iPhone but very different when you have to eat. I, believe it or not, don't really want to live in West Virginia, beautiful as the state can be, but I'm also a realist.

I guess that's my frustration, it's that these #notall_______ sweeping classifications are really marginalizing entire groups of people, whatever the group may be, because it's easy. It's low-effort. No one is asked to explain or look any deeper than the stereotypes they are continuing to propagate. I mean why should they look any further? It makes people FEEL GOOD to have someone to blame for the state of the news I guess. If all else fails I can blame myself as long as people agree with me.

My main issue with the GAF thread I linked is that the discourse will go straight to those generalizations over a couple quotes (from people we know nothing about except they live in Michigan and that they're seniors), moreover about a state Trump won only narrowly.

And while I am sure that Trump voters that are "too far gone" and/or horrible persons do exist (and agree that Trump voters would do well to self-reflect on their own responsibility and choice if and when Trump will shit the bed), I do find there's a disturbing -or hilarious- tendency for those discussions to indulge in some nasty "class-ism" not too far removed from the conception that poor people are inherently dangerous and to be sheperded (by the intellectual elite such as the population of a videogame forum) as if it was 1917.

There was a hilarious post on the last page that was something like, "Dems need to put up someone who people will be excited to vote for." But we already vote on the person who gets "put up". Since the thinly veiled implication is that Dem primary voters should have voted Sanders, the argument is that primary voters should have chosen sometime they weren't excited to vote for on the chance that  people voting in the general would be excited.

Except that would've been the case. You know how many Sander's supporters couldn't vote in the Democratic primaries due to "closed"/party-only voting for the primaries? A lot.

Trump had the crazy tea-party split to buoy him above the Republican party. Sander's supporters weren't part of the Democratic party. "So why should we listen to them?" Because they are the public, Jack. If you're going with your "establishment" candidate when a lot of folks (white, or otherwise) are mostly okay with Sanders (and not okay with his crazy supporters, let us be honest about that. There are sects of the "BernieBros" that really should shut-up. Making them the DNC version of the Tea Party at times), but they can't vote him as candidate, what does that tell you?


Primary system should be done away with, IMO. It's basically a dragged out election. I get why it's there, but I've never been fond of it.
