Is there normally this big of an influx of new members on this site? Or is this from the recent turn of events on Gaf?

I had known about this place for at least a year thanks to some other gaf bashing sites, but honestly the main reason I ever registered here was because I once saw a post in this thread awhile ago(pre-pedo amirox scandal) that I really wanted to answer, so I registered here to answer it. I thought the account validation would occur the same day or so, but it took a couple of weeks for me to be able to post. The amirox think definitely increased the interest in checking this thread out more often though, and I figure "hey I might as well post in here since I have an account now".

Anyways, since we are talking about our history, I will just say that I posted on gaf from late 2012 until I was banned last spring. I wasn't a big name, had a couple thousand posts and averaged probably three posts a day, so I don't know if many people would remember me(I actually don't even recognize most of the people in this thread). I always thought the place was kind of a shithole, but as I learned more about the questionable bannings, deleted/locked threads etc, my opinion of the place grew about as low as it can get and just thought "fuck this place" and didn't care about posting there anymore. About a year ago, evilore made a comment that said something to the effect of "gaf doesn't show favoritism and every member is on a level playing field with no advantages over anybody else". I thought that was blatantly full of shit and it should have been called out.  I said that didn't make any sense, because junior members can get permanbanned for their first banning, and I also mentioned the besada/jado pm thing. My post was deleted and I was permabanned. I didn't  get a reason, my ban message just said "please enjoy your time at other forums."

Nowadays I don't actively go to gaf and read threads there because the stupidity is frequently mind-numbing. I do lurk threads like this here just to check out if any huge drama  such as trump victory, bish getting demodded and amirox arrest are happening, or I  sometimes I just laugh at the stupid shit people there say. People at gaf always says it's a bit sad that people like me can't just ignore gaf totally, but what can I say? Car crashes are fascinating

I'd say it's a shared opinion throughout most Macron-skeptics. But he's not the first blowhard (Sarkozy was awful at that) and Macron pushing to the limit the boundaries of the institutions as an hyper-president is in line with the larger trend since 1958.
To repeat myself, I wouldn't be too surprised if he alienated some of his domestic support at one point, he's a bit high on his onw success right now.

Austin's fun to listen to. Patty Kleps, on the other hand, sounds like an old man desperately trying to stay hip and figure out what younger people like, and it usually takes a few months for him to pick up on a new trend and understand it. I think he's what's holding Waypoint back.

I think I posted a copy of the syllabus in a thread commenting about how he wanted us to read:

It was 2009, we were fresh off hopium and Keynes was going to save us from the great recession.  So it was extra fun to poke fun at the required reading (Though it was a good read).

Anywho, that's my guess as to how he found this place.  The syllabus must have had his name on it.

Then he or his "people" searched other posts from my old account and found a few posts.
This would have included posts that had pictures of me and pictures of my cats.
My history also included:
- A post talking about reasons why he creeped me and my group members out.
- A post talking about how one of my group members was so hot that she made me feel hideous in comparison.

What the fuck? I hope you snitched on that professor. What was the reasoning behind telling you to delete your posts?

I didn't snitch on him.
A few reasons why:

He had told me another one of his students was expelled recently for "posting comments about a female student online".  He said he saw my comment about my group member.  I told him I didn't post anything lewd about her, didn't post her picture, didn't give her name or anything.  But I didn't want it to become a bigger deal so I decided to have it deleted.

The other reason why:  I didn't have any proof to substantiate my reasons for feeling like he was a closeted sexual predator.  I didn't know if saying so could cause me any trouble and I didn't want to push it further.

I did tell him that "the fact you tracked me down on a small forum and approached me like this is definitely creepy."

So creepy that I just decided to nuke the account and become a lurker here.

After that whole situation he was really complimentary towards me.  TBH, I did kick ass in the class, but it felt like he was being too nice.  That always made me feel  uneasy, as if he was rewarding me for deleting/sweeping under the rug the whole situation.


Bonus facts:
- He's also a Republican consultant for local/state politicians.  Dunno how prominent, but he talked about it quite a bit.
- His name now completely escapes me.  I kind of wonder if he ever got caught for doing something awful.  I also wonder if he was just a creepy dude who all-in-all was a good guy.  Hard to say.

He also left a parting creepy gift to one of the girls in our class.  She had asked to do her final presentation a few days early because she had a family trip somewhere in Europe.  Instead of letting her do it earlier than scheduled, he said "What a coincidence, I'm going to be in that country the same time as you.  How about you present it to me there?"  She agreed, but man the looks on the faces of people in class were like wtf...that's creepy. 

btw, our final presentations took place over a few classes.  There was definitely room for him to move up her presentation but he wouldn't.

No. The specific skin colour is irrelevant. I wouldn't go like "Well see, as a white man you can understand something about me interjecting about X related to political oppression in Russia". It's dumb.

It's similar to the concept arguing for being able to relate just about anything. Like, to which extent? You reckon blacks in the US have the same culture than a tribe from the Somali desert, just because they have the same skin colour?
It's similar to the folks objecting to white raastafaris. Like, are you even remotely of jamaican descent?

Those are also my favorite. I don't have to worry about getting caught up in an argument that'll get me banned. Just good ol' fashion shit posting.

I'm saying that trying to explain that his hot take could be based on the fact that he's black doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. That would be arguing that he's got some sort of justification just because his skin has an amount of melanin closer to the people he's talking about. In this case, South Africans.
