The idea that someone would actually top Kek at Duck Soup or Jacque Tati stretches credulity.
i partially agree with this statement from that unhinged nutjob because i've seen it with even newer stuff like Airplane! and such where they did the jokes first but it's been done since so many times or referenced that someone seeing the original it's not actually funny
to take just the first one, Duck Soup is totally packed with them, whole extended gimmicks have been compressed into single setups and punchlines and re-used in films/cartoons/sitcoms, hell, Groucho's entire persona as Rufus T. Firefly is mimicked so much that people know it without ever having seen it...Mel Brooks's governor in Blazing Saddles openly plays some homage to the character, and how many films after that did the same or just plain Schumer'd it for laughs? Plus anyone who's ever seen Animaniacs will not realize they've seen the same exact Groucho jokes almost word for word or slightly tweaked....hell, how many times did Looney Tunes drop "of course, you realize, this means war!" MST3K used to reference it like mad after Joel left because iirc it's one of Mike's favorites.
also, lots of Duck Soup doesn't work as quotes because it's word play like this or because of how Groucho delivers it in what should be a serious scene:
I'm in a hurry! To the House of Representatives! Ride like fury! If you run out of gas, get ethyl. If Ethel runs out, get Mabel! Now step on it!
arguably, the weirdest thing about Duck Soup today is its running time, it's barely over an hour long and it's like five minutes of plot and sixty minutes of Groucho cracking endless jokes like they left the camera running...even those bad bad bad parody movies from that one team of directors, those are all over 90 minutes and are nowhere near as relentless as Duck Soup is with blatant gags, almost every line is one or about to become one
Duck Soup is even referenced in the game
Batman: Arkham Asylum to relate it to NeoGAF.com a forum presumably about video games:
He may look like an idiot and talk like an idiot, but don't let that fool you, he really is an idiot
