I just hope Nintendo really sticks with this and there's no separate handheld system a year or two later.

Also wonder what this means for all the Japanese developers that have no budget for games and were clinging onto the 3DS as their last chance for budget 3d graphics.  Doesn't look like that stuff will fly here.

Why do people care about a touch screen?  How many games have actually even used the damn thing for anything beneficial outside Kirby Roll and Rhythm Games?

port of Skyrim
port of Splatoon
port of MK8
port of Zelda
port of NBA2K17
new Mario

Quite bad.
At least there will be more Nintendo games, now that they're not split between handheld and home console. But yeah.

I figure this thing is basically just an Nvidia Shield...so I guess spec/price/battery wise this would be the best thing to base it on

Looks pretty cool.  Way slicker than the Wii U.

Slicker than the Wii U? Look at this fucking thing

(Image removed from quote.)

System and dock looks fine.

The controller bits are gray and makes the whole thing look terrible.
Not gonna lie, I'd love to try that.

I've lowkey always wanted a big tablet size screen with proper button controls just to see how it would play. Thanks Nintendo  :itagaki

it'l have a touch screen

Again, how does this work for TV mode?  Say your game is built with a touch screen interface.  Now you plug it into your TV, how can someone play it?  Use the system itself as the touch controller like the Wii U tablet?  Ok, except you have wired HDMI cables running from your TV to it, so how does that work when you're on the couch?

It very well could have a touch screen, but it creates a lot of problems for the concept.

Oh yeah, Layton for sure.  I didn't realize EO even had touch screen stuff?  But last one I played was the EO1 remake.

Map making...

Oh yeah, haha.  I use auto-map making as much as possible so I guess that's why I didn't think of it.

Touch screens are fucking cheap as hell.  Even if not usable in docked mode, they still have to have a way for Nintendo's mobile games to be played.  Miitomo and Super Mario Run will be on this thing, which means they need touch controls

It could have a touchscreen that's only used for apps (browser, Youtube and such), not for games.

Is it confirmed this plays mobile games?  That definitely would make it need a touch screen.

I'm happy with the concept (one less system to buy) but I was expecting the portable handheld successor to the 3DS to be more...portable?  Gonna need to know more about the dimensions on that thing.  It sure looks like a smaller Wii U tablet and Wii U tablet is huge and not something you can just stick in your pocket and take on planes/trains.

Doesn't seem to be a problem for all the people using tablets out there.  I can't even remember the last time I put a handheld system in my pocket-- my phone goes in there and that's it.  Handhelds get their own cases and get thrown into backpacks and what not.

No d-pad isn't a huge dealbreaker imo since the pro controller has a d-pad, even if it's not ideal.  Actually thinking about this a little more, since 90% of what I play on Japanese systems are menu-based rpgs using the d-pad and I do want to play them in bed at night, no d-pad kinda sucks.

It has "d buttons" instead.  That's not going to be a problem for navigating menus and such.  Really those kind of controls aren't going to be a problem for anything except for something like a fighting game.

I just hope Nintendo really sticks with this and there's no separate handheld system a year or two later.

I could see a handheld coming later on for one reason: Price.  If the Switch is gonna be like $350-$400, that could be a huge turn-off to a lot of potential (portable) buyers.

Also wonder what this means for all the Japanese developers that have no budget for games and were clinging onto the 3DS as their last chance for budget 3d graphics.  Doesn't look like that stuff will fly here.

Don't see why not.  I see a lot of J-devs jumping ship from 3DS and Vita to this.

Why do people care about a touch screen?  How many games have actually even used the damn thing for anything beneficial outside Kirby Roll and Rhythm Games?

Mario Maker?

If they want to attract people who like to game on phones and tablets...they're probably going to want a touch screen.

Nobody said it didn't have a touch screen either, though.

port of Skyrim
port of Splatoon
port of MK8
port of Zelda
port of NBA2K17
new Mario

Quite bad.

And all these games are portable and look amazing given they can be played that way.  And this was just a three minute teaser video.

Quite good.

I'm not gonna fault Nintendo for that reveal.  This is a hell of a lot better than the Wii and Wii U.

...So far.  That's key here, too.

Something hugely overlooked in that trailer:

Splatoon is eSports

Not Smash

ROFL stay mad

Splatoon actually has patch notes so this positioning from Nintendo isn't all that surprising.

I thought Wii U launched at $299 and is $250 now?  My memory is foggy when it comes to Nintendo products since I don't pay much attention.

I think $250 is possible if they want this thing to take off.  $300 is probably expected.  At $400 I'd expect this to bomb hard.

It's a replacement for both.

They have said they won't take a loss on their hardware.  They have also said that the Wii U's price was a main factor in its failure.

200-300 is my guess.

Lyte, I am saying this is bad because in the very pitch/ first look video they showed a bunch of 360 games and Wii U games (Wii U = 360 when it comes to power).

Why didn't they show PS4/ XB ports? Hell, they got FROM SOFTWARE on the supporters poster, why not show Dark Souls 3 port?

A bunch of 360/ Wii U games + the occasional new Mario is not very good for a hardware reveal.

LOL.  What did you expect from this?  Show me another portable game console with games with that level of detail running at high framerates.

The most important thing to me about this isn't the controller or hardware.  It's the fact that Nintendo is focusing all dev resources to it instead of two separate pillars.  That at the very least means more quality Nintendo games without having to buy two systems.

You put he NEXT Pokémon on this along with Monster Hunter and Mario Kart and I think you have a system that more people want to buy.

Off-topic, but have you seen the GPD-Win yet?  3DS XL-sized PC running Windows 10.  Emulators run great and it can run even some recent PC games pretty decently.  Only $330.  Ordered one from Geekbuying.  Someone even got Doom 2016 running at 20-30 FPS on it.  :lol

Here it is running Fallout 4:

Well, details are yet to be revealed, but Nintendo generally hasn't been stupid enough to use their own overpriced storage solutions and has opted for SD Cards and the like, and typically prices their products lower than Sony.  Plus it's getting big-name titles like Zelda and Mario out of the gate.  Not stripped-down gimmicky ports...the actual full-on 'console' games.

But while I'm impressed with this teaser...it's just that- a teaser.  Need more info.
