Is WoW on consoles something people would actually buy in 2016?

Not being snarky, just curious.

If it's D4 I'd hope it's a complete departure from D3/WoW type art/wack customization/etc.

I just want HD StarCraft and WC remakes with improved Battle Net UI/support.

Forgot to add Hearthstone on PS4

I would, game is still huge, think a reworked console version could be big, there is a market for it on consoles.

I think the Blizzard template is pretty clear now, cant see them departing from that for D4.

Maybe theyll add some elements from wow and overwatch? ie classes that need to work together to beat bosses and mobs, not just stats and button mashing

Would almost redeem the pile that is Diablo 3. But only if along with it they redo the graphics to look like Diablo 2's art-style AND change the combat from HUGE NUMBERS LOL back to Diablo 2-feeling.

Actually, I did. The combat is still :snore worthy and the BIG NUMBERS do nothing for me. I highly doubt the Necromancer will play the same as Diablo 2's given how much they ruined/changed-up the core-gameplay from Diablo 2.

The Sombra reveal for Overwatch is so obvious even at the start of their ARG that I'm betting they have a second character and a new map as well. Maybe even a roadmap for OW in 2017 (AKA. Give us all your money and we make more Mercy costumes for your waifu). Sombra released on the PC after revealing, obviously.

The Fisher Price of Game Development would have to get approval from their stock holders before they started production on a full fledged sequel, I'm sure an over priced expansion is much more likely.

D2's true successor :whew

I'm not going to try to pretend that D3's skill system is superior; it isn't.

Too bad about that gameplay, tho, bryh.

Also: having to play the same content on multiple different difficulty levels to get to endgame content in 2016 is regressive, shitty game design. Having to do it every ladder/season/whatever should be punishable by death.

Ive put in like 200/250 hours into D3 easy between PC and PS4 and Ive definately come around since launch (as has the game)

The gameplay is just very rewarding, the feel, but Id like to see some skill needed instead of just relying purely on stats. Some mechanics to the fights.

I wouldn't say it's purely about stats, at least the builds I've done anyway have been about using skills in conjunction and building strategies that way

D3 is in a weird place in that the more you play, the higher you progress, the more actual skill is needed, and awareness of certain enemy types, etc. Pushing high greater rift progression is like playing a completely different game than just leveling a character to 70, or even lower greater rift/torment progression. Obviously, it's unfortunate that so much of the ability to push higher greater rifts is tied to what set you're wearing, but that's the game. It's very set oriented. Hell, the "non set" Legacy of Nightmares builds are even MORE restrictive than the set builds, because you need ancient versions of everything, specific rolls, etc.

I really like some things that Path of Exile and especially Grim Dawn do. Where they lose me is asking me to play the same campaign content over multiple different difficulties before I get to endgame shit like maps in PoE. That is the dumbest fucking game design, man.

GGG has said the plan has been to phase out subsequent difficulties. I know they plan on getting rid of Cruel in the next major expansion (3.0). So it'll just be normal and then merciless, which makes sense. I agree the current design is stupid especially given how...inconsequential Cruel is. It just doesn't feel that different from normal, even when I play a ranged character who takes more damage.

I like how they increase difficulty with resistance penalties though. D3 does that too right? I don't remember.

ARPG difficulty is such a weird issue. I remember D3 when the second level of difficulty was considered super hard (before the big nerfs), but iirc nothing was really killing me back then (I just wasn't doing enough dps lmao). I tend to like stuff that outright kills you or heavily damages you. IE if you stand in poison clouds or those laser beams you should die or come close. IF you get hit by a boss' "big attack" you should die or come close. Punish people for being bad. Of course the flip side of this is that ARPGs also give you the ability to simply out-gear content. I'm fine with that since I can't think of a gameplay solution, plus part of the appeal of ARPGs is making a super badass character who can face roll shit.

So, after reading up on it, here are the scenarios (in order of awesomeness) that the Necromancer art leak could mean:

1) New D3 expansion. Probably not likely, but would be the best because it would be coming out the fastest.

2) New classes/maps/content added to D3 via microtransaction. I think this is honestly the least likely. I would pay for all of it, though.

3) D4 announcement. Would probably consist of just some cg footage, would be really short, etc. Game probably wouldn't be released until 2020.

4) It's just some dumb t shirt art or something, gamers whipped themselves into a frothing rage of anticipation for no good goddamn reason for the umpteenth time. lol gamers, so stupid.

Honestly, it's probably gonna be 4 or 3.

Can Blizzard even get away with WoW II in this climate? Seems like the game is losing a lot of steam and pretty bleh right now, although I've heard good things about the recent expansion. Unless they want to move into f2p shit, which is unlikely, it's hard to imagine them laughing an entirely new MMO. WoW is a dying breed that isn't coming back.

I think Legion is holding pretty well for right now. Post Nighthold / 7.2 will be when we get an answer for "is it sustainable?".

They might have turned it around if they can pull their heads out of their asses on a few things.

If they do turn WoW around with Legion, it will probably be because John Yang and Don Vu came over from Team 3 and saved the game's itemization.

Anyhoo, D3 might need skills deep deep deep into the endgame, but I played so many hours and never got to that point even. Think this should be there from level 1.

Also Dufus, the things you hate are pretty much universally praised. Maybe it's not that Blizzard changed so much as that you have uniquely shitty, distinguished mentally-challenged tastes. You really have no ground to talk on it either, considering you played a free beta for Overwatch, hated it, then payed for it. After whining about how shitty it was, you plunked down another 40$ for Legion. Either stop buying this shit or shut the fuck up, but also, even if you keep buying it, still shut the fuck up.

The developer announced during BlizzCon in Anaheim today that a future update will bring some nostalgic additions. This year marks the franchise’s 20th anniversary. To celebrate, an update called The Darkening of Tristram will recreate the original game inside Diablo III. It will even include graphical filters that make the game look pixelated older. The anniversary patch will be available to play on test servers next week.
