Tried out the FFXV demo.  Game looks quite nice on Pro HQ mode, but the frame pacing is insanely bad.  Feels like a 20fps Ubisoft game like AC Unity even though technically it's 30fps.  LQ mode feels mostly fine and normal locked 30fps, but since it's the same as normal PS4 there's zero benefit to PS4 Pro right now.  If they can fix the frame pacing on the HQ mode and unlock the framerate to get 60fps most of the time on LQ mode the Pro upgrade will be substantial.  Right now it's near worthless :|

Beps:

Square confirmed that FFXV will be getting PS4 Pro support:

Quote
An update adding 4K and HDR support will be released alongside the game on November 29, but they want to release an update that has been optimized a bit more at a later date. They want to release another PlayStation 4 Pro update in December as well, which aims to implement support for 1080p at 60 frames per second on HDTVs. They’re currently at the tuning stage, but have it running roughly between 40 and 50 frames per second.

I would definitely wait until December to play it if I cared about this game and wanted a Pro.

So just wait.  Finish those other RPGs you're working on.

Chill beps its square enix they make one game every 10 years and you expect them to do good support? They dont know what they are doing

Western devs got this shit on lockdown, TR, BF, Titanfall, all mint on the Pro

But Western devs are on PC so it's meaningless if you have a gaming PC.

Ok, tried out the rest of the games I own that are Pro compatible:

Last of Us - Looks fantastic.  At 4k/30fps the visuals are insane and only barely can you still see the last generation roots (mostly character models), at 1800p/60fps feels great and still looks great.  Nice upgrade.
Uncharted 4 - Very nice upgrade on an already gorgeous game at 1440p/30fps and real 1080p/60fps for MP (this feels big compared to how blurry/soft I remember 900p MP being).  If they can get more mileage out of the Pro by the time the SP DLC campaign comes out, it'll be amazing
Infamous SS - Pretty good, wish 60fps mode could maintain because when it's 60fps it's great but too unstable and can't quite pull it off.  4k/30fps mode sure looks nice though.  I think I find unlocked unstable 60fps worse than 30fps even though that 60fps goodness is nice when you get it.
Knack - This sucks and I like the game.  The high frame rate mode is nowhere near 60fps on some of the stage I tried and feels really bad, the high definition mode looks nice but either this has frame pacing issues or is under 30fps because it feels like 25 fps.

Tried a bunch of non-patched PS4 games and they all seem to run fine, which is good.  Also loading is improved on all games because the hard drive is faster than the OG.  I read somewhere Bloodborne went from 31 seconds load in Central Yarhnam (was like 48 before the old patch to speed up loads) to 18 seconds with stock on both OG PS4 and PS4 Pro.  SSD doesn't add much and only brings that 18 seconds down to something like 15 seconds.

Have Ratchet lent out to a friend so will try that when I get it back.  It's suppose to look amazing.  Overall after trying more stuff, I'm moderately impressed and if they can just patch World of FF to fix the broken visuals I'll be satisfied.  Some games look a lot nicer, some games a little nicer, and some games you can tell the patch was just thrown together quickly.  I'm hoping once we get past winter and devs can plan for Pro version while in development we'll start seeing more polished nice looking, nice running Pro upgraded versions.

Also my plasma is older and doesn't support HDR.  People are raving HARD right now about HDR greatly visually improving all these games.  Tempting me to get a set that supports HDR at some point, but afaik there still isn't a really great replacement for the top quality plasmas in terms of image quality and black level.

One thing I'm really happy with the Pro that not a lot of people are talking about is the new Dual Shock 4 controller.  Seems like they fixed the 2 manufacturing issues with DS4, 1) The analog stick rubber wearing down and tearing off & 2) The L1 bumper sticking after a while, and on top of that it looks like they've doubled the battery life which is huge for me because I play a lot of rpgs and my DS4 would often not make it through a day of gaming (probably 5 hours) so I'd have to change to another controller.  I put about 10 hours+ into the Pro with the new DS4 before it gave me a low battery warning, so I think it's at least 10+

Anyhow, Ubisoft patched Watchdogs 2 so it runs the same on Pro at 4k.  I've been pretty happy with my Pro this week. all the non-Pro games seem to run fine, and the Pro games are look better and run just as good or better.  The only real issue right now for me is the fucked up broken World of FF that's unplayable on Pro.  SE better fix that shit.  Looks like it'd take 30 mins to patch a fix.  I hear Deus EX MD also runs like shit on Pro but also ran like shit on PS4 so who knows if they'll bother patching it.

What Sony really ought to do going forward is to have a STABILITY UPDATE firmware that adds a "run games in compatibility mode" option in the system options which would make even Pro-enabled PS4 games think you're on a normal PS4 and play that way.  This would fuckup-proof the Pro so all PS4 games will work on Pro no problem even if developers pull a World of FF and break the Pro version since you could just play the normal PS4 version on your Pro.

seems to me that Switch is becoming a Wii U port machine. What a shame.

Well, wrong thread (this thread is Ps4 Pro official thread), but even if Switch gets ports of every Wii U game ever, I've got no beef with that since nobody bought a Wii U and people might want to play some of the Wii U games.

in this case it makes sense cuz wii u sold so poorly not many people have one

if switch sells much more, it means people will be able to play games from a system they never owned

No it is a cheap way of filling up the library. Hey look we have no new gamez ready, buy our wii u shit again.

I don't have a Wii u and I want one for some of the games I missed. If I can play them without a Wii u I'd be happy. What's wrong with this?

I bought a PS4 Pro and a JRPG today.

Only thing to note is that if you're planning on playing World of FF on it, you need to delete the game and pause the update so it doesn't install the Pro patch because that screws up the game and SE hasn't fixed it (yet).
