neither one seemed like it'd be very convincing to anyone who hasn't made up their mind, i thought Trump had a tiny edge only because of the expectations of his behavior and plus he threw out all those probably fake statistics while Schumer just kinda whined about the optics for half of his

edit: also Trump played up all that other border "security" stuff too, so it sounded like more than just the wall...while the wall was more of a focus for the Democrats

we should just have endless responses on increasingly obscure streaming sites. remember that year there was the GOP response, a tea party response, Rand Paul response and then some other GOPer response (Ted Cruz maybe?)

That Trump speech was pretty bad.

All those acadotes of illegals killing and murdering and raping happened after people stayed for years. He did a horrible job of trying to link why a physical wall would help people. At some point, he was begging for wall, and then referenced the two children that recently died in custody. He didn't say why a wall would prevent that.

So.... eh. This will likely be the longest shutdown ever since the record is up to 21 days, and that's Friday. This doesn't end until Trump realizes he needs to sign something to stop the bleeding and it sounded like he's nowhere near that yet.

This be politik, not debate or reality. :doge

Actually, now that I think about it, I'm kinda curious how far you guys trend towards the "open borders" side. If we put Trump/Dobbs on the "right" (or left), the Dimms mostly in the middle, benji on the "far left" (or far right) and pragmatic attempted benji* on the "left" etc.

Nobody has to actually answer or anything of course, I just don't think we've ever really talked about it like other stuff that I remember so I'm a bit curious how far we collectively go on this front.

*Some minor free paperwork mostly as a type of census, health/crime checks before residency allowed. Highly lenient status refugee acceptance. Drivers licenses are okay, so is voting, etc. Complete ban on Canadians, automatic high powered turrets every three feet along the Canadian border, minefields, and multiple walls based on defense in depth principles.

Only if the property owners do not consent. You wouldn't know being completely surrounded by it but for most of the rest of us it's quite easy to avoid entering Federal land.

It’s super crazy.

He is currently negotiating with himself by trying to (illegally) shift money around to stave off the worst of the shutdown threats. But, if he figures out a way to keep the parks open and pat snap, why would dems ever come to the table?!

Fact check, the gunman threatening to kill the hostages is one of the reasons for the crisis, the police not giving into his demands is the other.

Unlike many other things it is not illegal for a president to do so. It is frowned upon but not illegal.

And that is seemingly where things are headed. Although Trump mentioned the Dems would visit today and everything could be solved in a 45 minute meeting.  :lol
After which he can go back to golf.

So I'm not sure how dragging this out benefits the Democrats either. They just keep getting sucked deeper into the Trump Deadzone and more of the differences between the Bernies and the Clintonistas are aired out in the open.

Trump really has no trouble whatsoever hyping up this emergency
