Apparently he defends Putin being a killer by referencing America's own terrible past. Something like "We're killers, too."

edit: lol @ mudslinging and nothing wrong with Hilary. Jebus. She got asked a question about Clinton Foundation pay for play during a debate and could not answer it. If Trump wasn't a fucking manchild, she would have drowned her chances on that alone. She dodged the fuck out of it and then the Foundation goes kerplat once she doesn't get in the White House. She is not clean. She is supposed to be a women's champion and she fucked over Bill's accusers. She is nothing but a vehicle for power acquisition. You can argue that many politicians are exactly that and I wouldn't disagree, but you still don't have a clean candidate then and trying to win on moral appeal from that starting point is idiocy.

I don't doubt that any group of protesters has its own portion of ready-for-violence participants, however isn't this a commonly known tactic? Group A mobilizes their participants to infiltrate Group B's protest to make Group B look bad?

I mean that is exactly what happened with the "Rape Melania" sign righties got all up in arms over....because crude sexual assault talk is only bad when the left does it.

Turned out it was a couple alt-righters that have been doing that for some time.

anyway, I was only moderately sold on Clinton until she wore that awesome white space chancellor outfit in the last debate. if you weren't moved to vote for her after that you are dead 2 me

Is there a problem with Hillary's camp wanting Trump and encouraging their press buddies to let it fly with Trump coverage?

And then losing to the guy?

No, that seemed reasonable. They bet on the decency of the America people and lost. I would have done the same thing, except I wanted to elevate Cruz.

No one could foresee that a guy who was caught on tape admitting to sexual battery would get 62 million votes. They misjudged the core moral character of the American right.

Nah. She ran a lazy bad campaign and lost to the worst nominee in modern history.

Morality :neogaf

It's an election. You vye for the voters as they exist, not as you wish they are.
The DNC will be more than happy if some of those morally bankrupt votes swings back their way in upcoming contests.
All this talk of a collective moral failure or whatever makes for good literature but doesn't do a thing to adress the electoral concerns.
Also can we stop with Hillary Clinton already ? She lost and has been put into de facto retirement. There's no going forward for her. What matters is what the Democrats as a party identify as shortcomings and how they learn their lesson to win more votes or generate better turnouts.

notwithstanding any opinions I have on the subject matter, can we just note how absolutely garbage the cast is? must be the worst group in a long time
Kenan Thompson (and sometimes Kate McKinnon) carry every performance, the others are just treading water at best

it's telling that the best thing SNL has done in the past two years is the Martin Short spinoff, which is only really associated because it's by Lorne Micheals and because Marty is obviously an alumni
(although shoutout to McKinnon being absolutely made for the role of Hillary Clinton)

Man, I really hate Trump. But I kind of respect the “We’re killers too. You think we’re so innocent?” thing he said to O’Reilly. It’s facile and it’s a false equivalency, but I can’t believe a president said that. We kill so many people. I’m glad he said that. It's incredible. I will always remember it.

Yeah, but it feels like when white southerners get tired of being lectured and respond with "yeah well we're not the only ones being racist."

They're not wrong, but they don't really care and they're just trying to justify some status quo bullshit. Still, super weird that a Republican president in 2017 keeps bragging about how he opposed the Iraq War, even if it isn't true.

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Also,it's probably at least as likely that he based this on some weird, conspiracy-tinged bullshit he picked up somewhere as it that he's actually aware of and talking about the things we'd consider to be America's sins.

once again, if any Democrat, much less Obama had ever said that, we'd never hear the end of it. If Obama said that within his first two weeks, we'd still be hearing about it and his 'contempt' for America by the end of his term.

not that Donnie is wrong, per se. But obliterating whatever perceived moral authority we had in such a caviler fashion is, well, as awful as anything he's done yet so far.

Whatever moral authority we might perceive is an American delusion. I'm not defending Trump here and his shilling for dictators I'm talking specifically about that. We have consistently been a far worse influence for the world the last decades, destructive even, compared to any other nation. From economic imperialism like WTO and IMF to almost singlehandendly destroying the Middle East (which admiteddly had rotten foundations thanks to the British motherfuckers randomly drawing borders like distinguished mentally-challenged fellows) to promote our shitty interests. And Obama like all American presidents before him made the situation even worse, ISIS is his and Bush's child. Latin america is only kind of recovering now from our pillaging the last few decades. And speaking of Latin america, judging CIA by its actions the last few decades you can only conclude that it's a state sponsored terrorist organization. And we think we have the moral authority? Hilarious.

It's not awful but even if it's true, heads of state shouldn't say it while in power. It does undermine legitimacy. Even if completely fictional, states should strive for higher minded motivations. Just giving into the cynical "it's a dog eats dog world, might make right" :yeshrug is basically just inviting more use of force and giving an horrible example to public opinions. Say what you will about citizens, and passions are sometimes easily inflamed, but they at least demand that lip service be paid to values into any serious warfare effort. Losing that check would be bad.

All that said, Trump's words are probably way less severe in discrediting the USA moral standing than some of the actions of past administrations.

The "Bannon is the real president" thing is getting on his nerves. One would have thought that after realizing that he just appointed him to the National Security Council by not reading the EO he would now realize that Bannon is probably not loyal to him at all, but hey. The fact that he is texting Paul Ryan for "coordination" should tip him off that Bannon is just a opportunistic ballwasher that will stab him in the back without second thought.
