also lol @ elizabeth warren not playing by the rules and now making herself out to be jesus

The same rules that conveniently weren't invoked when Cruz accused McConnell of "a simple lie" or Perdue saying Schumer gave "a tear-jerking performance over the past weekend belongs at the Screen Actors Guild awards."

Really breh? :comeon

The only time it's invoked is in citing two extremely relevant things that severely call into question Sessions' ability as AG?

Really? :comeon

If you were a good student in high school or a bad student in high school, you can understand this, and it’s really incredible to me that we have a court case that’s going on so long,” Trump told his audience. “I was a good student. I understand things. I comprehend very well, OK? Better than, I think, almost anybody. And I want to tell you, I listened to a bunch of stuff last night on television that was disgraceful. It was disgraceful because what I just read to you is what we have. And it just can’t be written any plainer or better and for us to be going through this.”

Hey Tasty,

What's your take on race relations in Boston? My wife spends a good amount of time there for work and is pretty much on the "this city is pretty racist" side of the fence.

Yeah, that's the feeling I get.

Tbh I'm kinda too privileged to see it in action myself other than the lack of diversity at work -- but that's more the tech industry than anything.

If you asked me straight up whether Boston is an especially racist city I'd say no, but I'm probably not the best person to ask either.

Spicer told reporters during his daily press briefing that the decision -- which Nordstrom said was a result of poor sales, not politics -- was because of the clothing company's displeasure with President Donald Trump's executive orders and his policies.

"I think this is less about his family's business and an attack on his daughter," Spicer said. "He ran for president. He won. He's leading this country. I think for people to take out their concern about his actions or his executive orders on members of his family, he has every right to stand up for his family and applaud their business activities, their success."

Earlier on Wednesday, Trump attacked Nordstrom on Twitter, saying that the brand treated his daughter "so unfairly."

When asked why Nordstrom's decision would be an attack on the President's daughter after she supposedly removed herself from her company, Spicer said that the attack affects Ivanka Trump because the brand still bears her name.

"There's a targeting of her brand and it's her name," Spicer said. "She's not directly running the company. It's still her name on it. There are clearly efforts to undermine that name based on her father's positions on particular policies that he's taken. This is a direct attack on his policies and her name. Her because she is being maligned because they have a problem with his policies."

Is getting more and more difficult to identify what is Spicer trying to spin unexcusable BS and what is Trump just telling him what to say.

I didn't even mention clown sessions so please don't be fooled into thinking that opposing one=support of another, PD, never that.

i'm just disappointed at the embarrassing quality of political discourse
she got silenced because she broke the rules
rules that she was well aware of
then she tweets out ridiculous shit invoking the name of a civil rights icon
CNN's main headline was "Warren cut off for criticizing Sessions"
underneath in the second largest font was "Senator rebuked after reading Coretta Scott King's 1986 letter about Sessions"
and underneath that was "Senate GOP's effort to silence Warren backfires"
Hmm see anything disingenuous with those? Not to mention self-perpetuating?

This was not some grand gesture to Mr. or Mrs. King. All this did was try and absolve Warren of liability or complicity in his nomination. She could've stayed and made him sweat. Instead, we get "See! I got censored!" This was a transparently political move. Granted, it's a well-executed one in that regard, but it doesn't make it any less disappointing.

Why aren't black people mad at being used like this? When will EITHER political party tackle issues and not race? Why is it always so explicitly "my black friend" or "this will help african-americans" like they're one unit? We just had a black president for god sakes and people still do this. That picture I posted the other day of Hillary hugging a black guy with the words "thanks for the vote fam" as she fades away is ironic for a reason
Why not come out with an economic policy targeting inner-cities, or make tangible inroads in eliminating mandatory minimums?
How about having some faith that african-americans (or anyone for that matter) are smart and intelligent enough to decide whether a policy applies to them or benefits them on their own rather than just saying "look we're helping black people! look!!! please vote for us we think you're all the same and will respond to appeasement!!!!"
I swear at this point targeting sickle-cell would be more subtle than what our current political parties do
And that's pretty freakin sad (SAD! lol)

Like last week Nancy Pelosi was at a rally with someone (forgot his name sorry) after the EO and a hot mic caught her saying "tell them you're muslim, tell them you're muslim".
It's always 1 step forward, 2 steps back

I know this post is all over the place PD (between classes sorry) but my point is I'm not defending Sessions, not one single bit. I'm just saying Warren is disingenuous as fuck and it's analogous to larger shortcomings in both parties of still treating groups or races or religions as one unit and not actual people.

The rule seems pretty vague for the casual observer, Sessions has a sordid history even if is still respected by the house and the letter got read by other senators afterwards.

Sessions is going to be confirmed but he still should get grilled like the other nominated were.

After the Voting Rights Act got gutted the Obama White House, and specifically the office of Attorney General, was the only major force trying to stop various [Southern] states from clamping down on minority voting. Sessions will soon be in charge of that office. So, King's letter about Sessions is arguably more important now than it was 31 years ago and Warren was absolutely right to draw attention to it. Her "stunt" means far, FAR more people will be exposed to it than if she had simply Tweeted it out.

Yea I'm not following here, syph. Warren broke the rules, we know that. But you're complaining about process while a literal racist is about to become the Attorney General. Warren couldn't stop the nom whether she read the letter or not, it had no bearing on his confirmation assuming republicans vote by party line.

Yes there are all types of things "both parties" could do about issues that relate to black people. Surely one of them would be doing anything to prevent or delay the Department of Justice from being run by a racist who has spent most of his life obstructing black people from voting. There is no grandstanding here on the part of Warren or anyone else. She's not protesting his views on taxes or some frivolous political issue that can be debated civilly at a later time. She read a letter that pointed out Sessions spent a lot of time preventing old black people from voting. How is that not relevant to the matter at hand, and how was it not effective when the story is literally blowing up right now.

I make process arguments sometimes (see: Black Lives Matter protests). But for the life of me I can't understand focusing your outrage on people who are reacting to being pushed into a corner or oppressed.

Elizabeth Warren should know her place so she doesn't victimize poor Mr. Sessions.

My complaint was admittedly quite narrow. I agree with everything you said except for the grandstanding. I'm not even really saying she shouldn't have read the letter, and again, I'm not disagreeing that it's relevant, I'm just saying Warren herself tweeting things like
Quote
"I spoke out about @SenatorSessions – until @SenateMajLdr McConnell decided to silence me."
or
Quote
"Tonight @SenateMajLdr silenced Mrs King's voice on the Sen floor - & millions who are afraid & appalled by what's happening in our country."
are meant to frame her as brave, and come off to me as disingenuous.

Again, I had an admittedly narrow complaint, and again, focused on Warren, and not on Sessions (who I dislike and do not support) or the relevancy of King's statements (which are enduringly relevant).

Corporate media have lost all credibility and that applies to both liberals and conservatives. Good.

It's just kind of, I dunno.. others have pointed this out already. It's like, you're the token republican here and the senate just voted in a confirmed racist as attourney general, but the thing you take umbrage with is that Elizabeth Warren committed some technical infraction and then tweeted about it, which is so  :yeshrug

Trump is going to try to implement racist policies and the Senate just handed the DOJ to an absolute racist. Did Warren fall on her sword as publicly as possible? Yes, because shaming racists is the one thing those silent majority types pay attention to.

http://www.politico.com/story/2017/02/house-democrats-trump-strategy-234815
Quote
BALTIMORE — House Democrats have come here to regroup, reconnect and rally around a message to take back the House in 2018. Their political playbook already seems written, in fact, and it’s pretty simple: We’re not Donald Trump.
Quote
If their plan sounds vaguely familiar, it is. House Democrats tried the same thing in the run-up to the 2016 election, tying House Republicans to whatever the Trump controversy du jour was, with dismal results. Democrats picked up only six House seats, despite predicting big gains for weeks ahead of the election. But Democratic leaders and aides think this time will be different and that if they play their cards right, the strategy could even help deliver them the double-digit wins they need to take back the House in 2018.
Quote
The message, essentially “Let Trump be Trump,” is something Pelosi has been preaching for months. During the campaign, she repeatedly referred to him as “the gift that keeps on giving,” predicting he would hand Republicans huge losses in both the House and Senate.
After the election sent Democrats licking their wounds and questioning their longtime House leadership regime, Pelosi again renewed her declarations about Trump as a pitch for why the caucus should keep her in power for at least two more years.
Quote
Democratic aides say they will eventually shift to a positive economic message that Rust Belt Democrats can run on. But for now, aides say, the focus is on slaying the giant and proving to the voters who sent Trump into the White House why his policies will fail.
House Democrats’ strategy is basically this: They’ll publicly goad Trump on subjects he’s clearly sensitive about, like insinuating he’s being blackmailed by Russian President Vladimir Putin; and on other issues, like Obamacare and tax reform, they’ll get out of the way and let Trump and House Republicans fall on their face.

Because he's  from West Virginia. Still won't help him, he probably loses in 2018

We elected a Democratic governor. A billionaire, coal-mine company owning Democrat.
