If I may put on my conspiracy theory hat for a moment.

What if the Manchester bombing leaks from the US government were on purpose to distract from the Russia investigation?

Trump just ordered an investigation into the leaks.

You went full etoilet, son. Never go full etoilet.

Yet another court ruling against the Muslim ban.

The whole thing was ostensibly a temporary measure until they could "figure things out" and get a long term policy in place. Shouldn't we be getting to the point where that was meant to happen?

The long term policy is and has always been "how can we make it look like we're doing something we can't possibly do". I'd say that applies to everything. So the talking point will be that liberal are obstructing Trump's plans, he did his best. This, I'm quite sure, is the long term plan for everything he promised as a candidate.

I don't think Gianforte will lose. The mail in ballots are the first to be counted and the rural, conservative counties are last. But it is likely 2018 will be a wave election as Republicans can't get anything done so it's not the end of the world.

"We whole-heartedly support Greg. We love him," said Karen Screnar, a Republican voter who had driven all the way from Helena to support Gianforte. Screnar said she and her husband have known Gianforte for the better part of a decade. After Gianforte was charged with misdemeanor assault, Screnar said she was only "more ready to support Greg."

"We've watched how the press is one-sided. Excuse me, that's how I feel. (They're) making him their whipping boy so to speak through this campaign," Screaner said. "There comes a point where, stop it."

Her husband, Terry, chimed in that he believed Gianforte was "set up."

lost in all the assault hubbub was that this guy has a big heart for education and science:
Quote
He donated $1.5 million to the Glendive Dinosaur and Fossil Museum in Glendive, Montana, a creationist museum which teaches visitors that evolution is false, the Earth is about 6,000-6,400 years old, that dinosaurs were on the Ark and that they likely died out 4,300 years ago during the flood described in the Book of Genesis.

Gianforte's best move was hurting that reporter. In that move, he galvanized those that hate the 'fake news' liberal press and are ecstatic at the notion that one of them has been physically harmed. They wouldn't have voted for him nor donated otherwise.

I honestly would not be surprised, with the way many of my midwest relatives choose to selectively view news around MAGA candidates.

I think we should be slow to suggest that he wasn't elected for many other terrible reasons.
Quote
As of Wednesday night, 259,558 ballots have been returned, said Derek J. Oestreicher, the Director of Elections and Voter Services in the Office of the Montana Secretary of State.

NYTimes, with 98% reporting (666 of 681 precincts) has a total of 374,587 votes. Which is only slightly more than the total number of absentee ballots sent out:
Quote
That number is of 357,596 absentee ballots sent out

He's winning 50-44-6. Zinke won 56-41-3 and 55-41-4. Daines won 53-43-4. 2014 was the only of the three elections with less than 480,000 votes with 368,000.

It's entirely plausible the guy won the early vote by ten plus points and lost the election day vote with some GOPers just not voting but too much of the electorate voting early for it to have mattered.

The boxer? I had no idea he went into politics. That's amazing.
I think he's run for Mayor of Kiev like every time for the last decade incrementally improving from like 10% to 20% to eventually getting elected, was at all the Euromaiden protests, almost ran for President but there were too many hurdles in part due to his boxing career. Been in Parliament, leader of various parties as they went through all the turmoil. The Orange Revolution got him involved in it all I think.

On the one hand he's a big Rudy Giuliani fan and has used him as a political adviser. But maybe that's just for tips on being a Mayor in a big city rather than foreign policy.

Hopefully by then the electoral process changes so the candidates just beat the shit out of each other in the ring. We're just taking our tentative first steps into this arena.

Well I could have linked to the National Review article on it or the Fox News one, but I try to directly link to the journalists who did the work in the first place. Could just link to the actual FISA investigation, too.

Though I don't know if any of those places measure up to the bastion of journalistic integrity that is Gawker.

The Sinclair group is in fact garbage though. And they purchased Circa and installed a Washington Times douche at the head.

They are the conglomerate that forced all their local affiliates to run straight Trump propaganda on all their channels at points during the campaign. And before that forced all their affiliates to air a propaganda Swift Boat documentary in 2004.

They also just so happened to have gotten a nice kickback from Trump's FCC to to now allow the purchase of Tribune media and allow them and Fox(and other conglomerates) to greatly expand their holdings and reach.

http://www.wnyc.org/story/sinclair-growing-reach-conservative-media/

Story may have merit, but since the first non-Circa site to run with it was WND and Infowars - And toilet is the one pushing it - I don't think waiting for more credible organizations to jump into it is the wrong way to go.

The report itself exists online. It's been put out into the public. The opening is relevant and is the part about Upstream collection monitoring US Citzens of no interest.

"The October 26th, 2016 Notice informed the court that the NSA analysts had been conducting such queries in violation of that prohibition. with much greater frequency than had been previously reported to the court."

On page 68, it starts discussing the FBI's scew ups with their database of information and access violations, along with exporting the information to users lacking the authorization to view the information.

Jared Kushner and Russia’s ambassador to Washington discussed the possibility of setting up a secret and secure communications channel between Trump’s transition team and the Kremlin, using Russian diplomatic facilities in an apparent move to shield their pre-inauguration discussions from monitoring, according to U.S. officials briefed on intelligence reports.

Ambassador Sergei Kislyak reported to his superiors in Moscow that Kushner, then President-elect Trump’s son-in-law and confidant, made the proposal during a meeting on Dec. 1 or 2 at Trump Tower, according to intercepts of Russian communications that were reviewed by U.S. officials. Kislyak said Kushner suggested using Russian diplomatic facilities in the United States for the communications.

The meeting also was attended by Michael Flynn, Trump’s first national security adviser.

Hillary Clinton Is Furious. And Resigned. And Funny. And Worried.

The surreal post-election life of the woman who would have been president.

Quote
“Oh, I am [pissed],” she says. But as a woman in public life, “you can’t be angry for yourself. You just can’t. You can be indignant, you can be annoyed, you can be frustrated, but you can’t be angry … I don’t think anger’s a strategy.”

You mean it’s not a strategy for you, I clarify. “For me, yeah.” She pauses. “But I don’t think it’s a good strategy for most people.”

But this was an election that was, in many ways, about anger. And Trump and Sanders capitalized on that.

“Yes.” Clinton nods. “And I beat both of them.”
Quote
“You know, these guys on the other side are not just interested in my losing, they want to keep coming after me. I mean, think about that for a minute. What are they so afraid of? Me, to some extent. Because I don’t die, despite their best efforts. But what [really drives them] is what I represent.”

American businessman and investor Martin Shkreli is putting up $100,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for the murder of Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich.

Shkreli is not the only person offering a six digit reward for information surrounding Rich’s death. Washington D.C. attorney Jack Burkman is offering $105,000 and calling on the DNC to step up its role in the investigation. “I don’t know who is worse, the DNC — who haven’t done a thing, or Sean Hannity who talks about it every night without action. All talk, no action,” Burkman said Wednesday

obtained the public incident report, which revealed that at least three responding officers were wearing body cameras. When TheDCNF reached out to the police for information regarding the presence of body cams or surveillance footage near the scene of the crime, the department refused to confirm or deny the existence of surveillance footage.
Time for a special prosecutor to look into this. If the DNC and Hillary Clinton are innocent then they shouldn't be afraid of helping the family and loved ones of Seth Rich finally be able to put this crime and cover-up behind them by seeing the people in the Clinton campaign who ordered this hit spending life behind bars.

After college, Trump mostly gave up his personal athletic interests, he came to view time spent playing sports as time wasted. Trump believed the human body was like a battery, with a finite amount of energy, which exercise only depleted. So he didn't work out. When he learned that John O'Donnell, one of his top casino executives, was training for an Ironman triathlon, he admonished him, "You are going to die young because of this."

Watched the Frontline on Bannon.

At one point I looked at a shot of him from present day and thought, "Man, I should probably cut down on the boozing so I don't wind up looking like that at 63."

Then they cut to Trump and I thought, "Well, if you can look like that at 70 after a life of sobriety, I'm just gonna keep doing my thing."

This year, after being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol at the end of the last, I've radically changed my diet and started (somewhat, for me anyway) seriously exercising. I've lost about 30 lbs.

I'm drinking more than ever, though. Just vodka and soda water. But I'll be fucking dead before I try to go through this fucking administration sober.

Why would anyone ever want to be sober? At anytime of the day. Being sober is the fucking worst.

HRC crushed it in that NY Mag interview that benji posted without commentary as though he's a guy who makes points and not a lunatic shitposter.

The whole article is pretty great, actually, and benji should go fuck off and live in the woods.

He can't, Hillary moved in and prices became un-affordable for regular Americans like himself.
