Will they also absolve him from debating Trump, how is this going to work where he is "handled" away from critical strategies on the softball national stage and then be tossed on the debate stage?

You think Trump's that much stronger a debater than Bernie?

Biden actually has made multiple speeches , statements, and appearances during the past 2 weeks regarding the protests, BLM, and Trump and his circle's and supporters racism. They've been eloquent,  heartfelt, impactful, lucid,  and presidential.

Why is it that you understand the politics/game theory of gender/race when it comes to selecting a VP, yet don't understand what Biden was doing when he was winking and nodding about a republican VP? It wasn't obvious that he was signalling to independents and moderates who dislike Trump? And now that the dust of the primaries has settled, and Trump's numbers among independents+moderates have tanked, Biden doesn't have a single republican on his VP short list. I'm gonna say Biden knows what he's doing here.

I don't even think VPs matter that much in the grand scheme of things, unless you fuck up (Palin). That being said, I expect that Biden will likely select a black woman VP and it'll have some impact on the race. Biden is running so well with white voters (and elderly voters) that he won't need 2008/2012 style black turnout. But given that race has emerged as a major issue in the upcoming election, having a black person on the ticket could be valuable for the old white guy in his 70s.
It's not that I don't understand his play, but more that his particular nod of a Republican VP speaks more largely of a softball approach in which he will be applauded for expanding his base while not having the gumption to commit to anything that is confrontational or energizing.

His entire campaign has been extremely lacking in presence, confrontations or rebukes have been kept to a minimum (his worst pet name was "President Tweety" and was likely developed in a boardroom of handlers) and that speaks against his character esp. when he will be facing the national debate stage and meaningless gestures like saying he won't consider a Republican VP will be minor compared to viciously going after Trump in any righteous anger over the fact that he mishandled national unrest during one of the biggest protests in the past several decades and a world pandemic that has affected quite literally everyone on a personal scale. His non-confrontational approach is also extremely unenergizing when he can't do some performative bit that breaks the national landscape on any of the major morning shows or whatever.

Biden has given multiple interviews and speeches in the last couple weeks. They...don't matter. He doesn't matter. Nothing he says or does will break through during a historical span of time where we face a global pandemic and mass protests/unrest. This election is entirely about the president, and even if he was running against 2008-era Obama right now, Trump would still be the focus. I'd say Biden's "wait and see" strategy has worked pretty well, wouldn't you? Even when Biden fucks up, the president immediately changes the subject by fucking up on a bigger scale. Mere days after the black republican comment, we hit the 100k COVID death mark. And a few days after that, George Floyd was murdered. Thus rendering Biden's biggest fuck up completely irrelevant and forgotten.

All Biden has to do is stay alive, go outside a couple times, remind people that he exists, etc. Nothing else matters.

Like I said, utilizing the absolute biggest intersections of personally-felt, nationwide crises even Kopmala or Buttigieg have a fighting chance. So no, I'd imagine Bernie would be able to vocalize commentary esp. when righteous stump speeches are what he specializes in.

idk if a speech about giving cops raises would really energize the dem coalition at this moment

By the time debates start, Trump might be at Katrina-Bush levels in polling, with 140-150k people death from the virus and the protests even reaching NFL games again (if the NFL starts on time). It's gonna be an ugly scene for him and I doubt many people outside of loyalists and some leftist dead enders will be cheering on his bullshit bravado and ignorance during the debates.

That's assuming he even shows up for the debates.

The only thing I agree with you on is that a win isn't guaranteed. Anything is possible. But I'd rather be Biden right now than Trump, that's for damn sure. Biden isn't an elected official, he has no real responsibilities. Meanwhile...COVID isn't going away, the recession isn't going away, and the protests might not go away in the coming weeks. All while Trump flops from one fuck up to another. I'm struggling to see where he finds a respite. On one hand he's attacking Biden as the Crime Bill author who ruined black lives...on the other hand he's attacking Biden as a pro-riot, pro-antifa police hater who wants to see white people assaulted in their suburban homes. Which is it?

I could see both effectively killing the debates by never agreeing on the terms in time. Depending on the different calendar this year with COVID and such.

Not the candidates themselves necessarily, who both probably consider themselves master debaters.

If a presidential campaign wanted to avoid debates, waaaaaaaay more likely they'd do it by "negotiating" terms in bad faith and saying regrettably the other side just won't work with them.

Funny that Tri thinks that Biden would completely fall apart and expose himself in a debate yet Trump wouldn't take advantage of that.

We all talk about Biden's brain, but Trump is definitely less coherent than Biden even when Biden starts stammering and fades off. Trump isn't even coherent in edited Fox News interviews. If you watch any of his live speaking that isn't reading from a prompter, it's absolute nonsense where he can't stay on a topic for more than 2-3 sentences and having 30 diverging thoughts and different imaginary conversations with himself and others and by the time he's finished no one knows what the fuck he's talking about and usually he doesn't know what the topic was either.

Watch literally any press conference he does and gets asked a question, even the softball set up questions from his people, and he'll answer and go on to talk about something completely different for 10 minutes. His rallies are absolute word salad nonsense.

Biden and his campaign is still a tradtional run campaign. They might not like a Biden's performance at a debate, but think it's still nesscary to carry out the motions. They did the March one with Sanders despite Biden already having a sizable lead over Sanders at this point. It wasn't until after more primaries and early to mid April you heard rumblings that the Biden camp didn't want to do more debates with Sanders and the justification was that the race was over, not because Biden thought he sucked at it. I think he sucks at it, but that's different from Biden's and his campaign internal view of things.

The reason why I think Trump wouldn't want to go for it because he can't be bothered. Look at him now, the one thing he's excited about are the debates rallies, he just doesn't care about the debate and how they're structure. He never wants to share the stage, and in 2016, he only did it because it was a 'requirement'. If the last 4 years has proved, Trump has spent this presidency showing that he's not going to follow much of the traditions that has built over the last century. Also, for Trump to dunk on Biden, that would actually mean trying to some homework outside of the easy twitter shit. That dude has never done homework in his life, he's not going to start now.

Edit: One last thing, no way in hell are crowds going to be allowed at any of these debates, which is another reason why Trump won't go for it. It's clear at this point that he's willing for others to catch the novel coronavirus in order to see him, if he can't perform in a crowd, than he will have no interest.

Biden would crush Trump in a debate, imo. Like an actual intellectual debate with facts and numbers and shit. As a circus trash entertainment contest, things could get dicey. Ultimately I don't think a debate between the two really matter. I don't think anyone is going to make up their mind on who to vote for based on their debate performance this election.

Apparently they had Gorsuch write the opinion, like when they let Kennedy do it for Obergefell.

House Democrats on Monday wrote to the chief executives of some of the country’s largest banks demanding they disclose documents pertaining to their handling of the federal government’s small business bailout loan program.

In letters to the CEOs of J.P. You think there's ever been a vp pick where the racial/sexual/ethnic/gender characteristics of the candidate didn't play a role
Uhh every VP pick before Geraldine Ferraro

I had to look up who this was.
Quote
