i wonder what the crosstabs on viewer retention look like for Fox Business' 7-9 bloc

at 7 you have Lou Dobbs Tonight, which from what I have gathered consists entirely of his desire to deport anyone Sean Hannity has not called a "Great American" (note: this still may be between 100-250 million people) and then bombing them and neighboring nations or anyone who looks like it; along with endless praise of anything Trump does while attacking RINOS or DIMMS for not getting on board, and the immediate stoppage of all trade...along with shuffling out Ed Rollins corpse to blast Trump opponents in the Republican party for betraying Reagan

at 8 you have Kennedy, which 80% of the guests are either reason/Cato folks, comedians and/or likely Red Eye tier cast-offs, which gives the show a borderline open borders policy, along with an anti-war/anti-drug war/anti-police overall vibe most of the time, with half the guests often saying things that are anti-Trump, with pretty much all of them free traders...along with shuffling out Nick Gillespe's leather jacket to blast Republicans for being Republicans

This shouldn’t be a partisan issue. The guy had 47 guns. No one should own 47 of anything. If you own 47 cats, you are not a responsible pet owner, you’re a crazy cat lady. And unlike with guns, the government will actually come and take your cats away because everyone agrees that’s insane. Also, this guy bought 33 of his guns in the past year, and that didn’t set off any kind of alert? If I buy $100 worth of Chick-fil-A, I get a text message from my bank that says, ‘Did you just purchase $100 worth of Chick-fil-A? Please, Colin, tell us this is fraud.’ How is no one keeping track of how many guns people own? There is a real law in Texas that says it’s illegal to own more than six dildos. And I get why. No one needs that many. If you have more than six dildos, it’s a clear sign you are training for something awful.
(…)
Who are these delicate snowflakes that we can’t just tell: ‘No, you’re not allowed to have 40 guns anymore, Earl. From now on, you can have one gun, max. And six bullets.’ If you can’t hit what you’re shooting with six bullets, then you don’t need to be shooting at it. Learn karate or use your words. I’m sick of this narrative that Americans just love guns so much. It’s not true. Seventy-eight percent of Americans don’t even own a gun. And 3 percent of Americans own 50 percent of all the guns in the country. That’s the problem: that whiny 3 percent that needs to feel secure all the time. That’s why I think we should do a buyback program. For every gun you trade in, we give you one half-inch of penis enlargement. That’s fair. If you trade in 10 guns, you get five more inches. And if women want to trade in their guns, don’t. Keep your guns. You’re probably going to need it to fight off all those men in spandex showing off their brand-new eight-inch penises.

I own 18 guns  :(  I bought 5 of them in the past year and will likely get another before the end of the year.

If it's your main hobby 40 is not that outrageous.  If you're into shooting sports (disclaimer: which this guy obviously wasn't) you have tons of variations that required different guns and setups.  IDPA, USPSA, bullseye, silhouette, F class, match precision, bench rest, etc all require different setups and that's not even the individual divisions in each which have their own specific setup requirements

I'm not saying restrictions aren't needed on guns.  I just think the number of guns a person owns is a really poor way to start that conversation.  You really only need one to do something terrible.

There's also more than six dildos in my house

I own more than 47 video games :( Only two guns though, so I'm safe.

But if you count up the guns in each video game I'm way over 47 :gun

This whole "Harvey Weinstein is a major scandal for the Democrats" thing that's going around right-wing media must be one of those arguments that makes sense only if you're a Fox News viewer.

I blame Drudge. He's always had a hard-on for exposing Hollywood scandal. 20 years now.

Part of it is because they typically fund the Democrat party every election cycle and part because it gets clicks.

I think in the case of Drudge there's a totally non-political explanation.

He got his start working at CBS Studios, and at about the same time got into newsgroups, this eventually led to an e-mail/usenet newsletter he sent out of gossip he picked up at CBS and from friends around the various studios. It was pretty much nothing but Hollywood gossip but he started getting spiked stories as part of that which got him contacts at various news organizations. A few years down the road this is how he found out about Newsweek spiking the Lewinsky story and his publishing it that turned him overnight into a millionaire.

Andrew Breitbart came up through the same Hollywood low level worker jobs and as a fan of Drudge who then helped him actually put up the website and then was the one who ran it half the time before helping start Huffington Post on Drudge's recommendation.

I think it was after the 2000 Election and then 9/11 that it really became more politically focused, it was probably still 60% Hollywood/Celebrity/Media gossip before then. By the 2004 election it was like 90% political/news links.

The rumor a few years ago was that Drudge basically doesn't even run the site anymore, it's people who hope to jump from there to Breitbart and become somebody important. I just looked at it and I'm surprised it not only is shockingly subdued about the Weinstein news but the rest of the stories are just a random grab bag of news, they don't even have Breitbart style headlines. And some of the SHOCK GORE HORROR stories that are like on ABC News front page aren't even linked.

Jane Fonda hate, "shut up and sing" sentiments and so on were part of the culture wars before Drudge. That was part of Reagan's redemption story.

Speaking of which, it's not on Drudge, but Rush Limbaugh apparently is mad as hell at Trump and his NFL obsession:
Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh on Wednesday voiced concerns about President Trump's comments on NFL players taking a knee during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, saying Trump should not have the power to dictate who can kneel during the anthem.

"There’s a part of this story that’s starting to make me nervous, and it’s this: I am very uncomfortable with the president of the United States being able to dictate the behavior and power of anybody. That’s not where this should be coming from," Limbaugh said on his show.

Limbaugh said he believed Trump's motives were "pure," but he argued that the president's actions were unhelpful in the broader debate on players kneeling.

"Trump is continually tweeting — I know what he’s doing, and I understand why he’s doing it, and his motives are pure; don’t misunderstand. But I don’t think that it is useful or helpful for any employee anywhere to be forced to do something because the government says they must," he continued.

"We don’t want the president being able to demand anybody that he’s unhappy with behave in a way he requires," Limbaugh added.

Even the Clinton campaign was creeped out by his Hillary obsession and kept him at arm's length

Even sites that were generally pretty pro-Clinton during the primary and election clowned him for verrit (possibly the only thing that's united the entire political spectrum in the last year is making fun of him).

Quote
The United States will maintain its presence at UNESCO as an observer state.

...

The Reagan Administration decided to withdraw from the organization in 1984, at the height of the Cold War, citing corruption and what it considered an ideological tilt towards the Soviet Union against the West. President George W. Bush rejoined the organization in 2002, claiming it had gotten its books an order and expunged some of its most virulent anti-Western and anti-Israel biases.

“America will participate fully in its mission to advance human rights, tolerance and learning,” he said at the time.

But six years ago, the United States cut off more than $80 million a year, about 22 percent of its entire budget for UNESCO, in reprisal for its acceptance of Palestine as a member. The Obama administration said it had to cut funds because a 1990s-era law prohibits U.S. funding for any U.N. agencies recognizing Palestine as a state.

Despite the funding cut, the United States remains a member of UNESCO, and even has a vote on the executive board, which selects the new director general. But the United States has and it continues to be charged tens of millions in dues each year and has lost its voting rights in UNESCO’s principal decision-making body, which is known as the General Conference. That body approves UNESCO’s budget and establishes a range of programs dealing with education, science, and culture around the globe.

As a result of U.S. funding cuts, U.S. arrears have been swelling each year, surpassing $500 million that’s owed to UNESCO. Tillerson wants to stop the bleeding.
what are they going to do if we don't pay back the dues? break our legs?

I'm pretty sure by this time next year, PR will no longer be a US territory just so Donald Trump won't have to be bothered to help them again.

No way. The US imports like 20% of their drag queens from PR.

WASHINGTON — President Trump will scrap subsidies to health insurance companies that help pay out-of-pocket costs of low-income people, the White House said late Thursday. His plans were disclosed hours after the president ordered potentially sweeping changes in the nation’s insurance system, including sales of cheaper policies with fewer benefits and fewer protections for consumers.

The twin hits to the Affordable Care Act — on successive days — could unravel President Barack Obama’s signature domestic achievement, sending insurance premiums soaring and insurance companies fleeing from the health law’s online marketplaces. After Republicans failed to repeal the health law in Congress, Mr. Trump appears determined to dismantle it on his own.

Without the subsidies, insurance markets could quickly unravel. Insurers have said they will need much higher premiums and may pull out of the insurance exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act if the subsidies were cut off. Known as cost-sharing reduction payments, the subsidies were expected to total $9 billion in the coming year and nearly $100 billion in the coming decade.

“The government cannot lawfully make the cost-sharing reduction payments,” the White House said in a statement.

I have no fucking words. This man is the biggest piece of shit I have ever experienced in my lifetime.

I am really holding back not saying some really fucking crazy shit that would put me on a list because this is the single most indefensible domestic action I have seen taken in my lifetime.

George W. Bush vetoed multiple bills reauthorizing SCHIP.

As i remember it, Bush did not end the program, only veto additional funds for it. Shitty, yes, typical Republican bullshit, yes, but that is a different game than trying to collapse an entire market space that will have enormous consequences.

What Trump is doing here is actually triggering a likely death spiral, as cost sharing subsidies are pivotal legs on which the ACA stands on. Its also the sort of shock that is likely to trigger insurers to seek their exit clauses so they can flee the marketplace.

One thing Republicans have not been willing to do in all their despicable theater over the years is actually go through with deeply harming this many people. Even Bush had the good enough sense to drop his SS "reform" when the reality hit the rhetoric. Trump lacks that capacity.

I will also say this, assuming a best case scenario and we don't see an exodus of insurers, in typical short-sighted Trump fashion, theoretically a lot of this cost would fall right back on the government.

Insurers could demand much, much higher rates and due to the open-ended nature of the premium tax credits, the government picks up that aspect of the tab(of course I wouldn't be surprised if the DHS just denies those increases to help collapse the market). People that qualify wouldn't see their own out-of-pocket expenses go up, but the government would.

People that are without any subsidies? Yeah, they are fucked. If you are sick or need good coverage? Double fucked. And I have zero faith congress somehow grows a conscience and funds these subsidies with the bi-partisan Senate bill.

I relied on those subsidies to afford insurance.  Guess I'll invest in some vitamins and a Bible now.  :doge

I'm livid, but honestly I knew it was inevitable so I'm not surprised.  I'm pretty healthy (and just saying that I've condemned myself to get sick :rofl) but I get to live on edge now.

The good thing in your situation, assuming insurers don’t flee the marketplace in your area, your premium costs will be offset by the subsidies. As they climb with the price of the plan. Which gets to some of the idiocy of Trump's decision here. This is going to cost the government a boatload of money it seems.

David Anderson over at his blog makes me feel a little bit easier than last night because he and some other people are trying to go state by state and determine exactly how the state and individual insurers have already acted based on CSR uncertainty and look at what many are planning to do now that it is confirmed:

https://www.balloon-juice.com/2017/10/13/state-choices-for-csr-ramifications/

Which, of course, like most things these days, exploits how dumb this administration is.

You guys live in a such a bubble, earlier I was watching Lou Dobbs Tonight and they were talking about how this is now officially the most successful Presidency ever with the end of these subsidies to Big Insurance and the refusal to appease Iran as just another latest example of The President destroying the DIMMS and RINOS to achieve winning for the American people.
