1. XCOM 2 (PC) - Improved in every way.

2. The Last Guardian (PS4) - Loved it, despite technical issues.

3. Uncharted 4: A Thief's End (PS4) - Another blockbuster filled with memorable moments.

4. Sid Meier's Civilization VI (PC) - Once they fix the launch issues it will be the best Civ game to date.

5. Fire Emblem Fates (3DS) - Sometimes more of the same is all that is needed.

6. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (Wii U) - A fun combat system goes a long way.

7. Pathfinder Adventures (iOS) - I absolutely adored this cardgame during a short period.

8. Final Fantasy XV (PS4) - Perhaps it would have ended up higher up in the list if I hadn't been sidetracked early on.

9. Ratchet & Clank (PS4) - Really solid remake of a PS2 classic that I originally missed out on.

10. Letter Quest Remastered (PS4) - Scrabble with a progression system is surprisingly fun.

Only played like five or six games released this year that made any impression
1. Doom - duh
2. Overwatch - TF2 ripoff that gets TF2 way better than valve does in 2016
Runners up; Grim Dawn was a blast for a little bit. I played way more Pokemon than anyone ever should, but I still can't tell if the game is actually good or if the nostalgia factor/grind formula is just so well honed that it can suck me in again after 15 years

Other shit I played that came out this year;
Deus Ex blew
SFV LOL
X Com 2 was cool for like ten hours but after ten hours of graphical glitches and merciless RNG I lost interest

:lol Man ain't that the truth.

If Valve refuses to make games then I'm extremely happy that other devs fill in those gaps.

I could go on at length about Valve's negligence re: anything that isn't CS GO, but I honestly don't really blame them. Why bother making a new game when you can invent a fake marketplace?

OK, this is how things are shaping up for me right now.  This was a weird year and I probably played less games than I ever have before, either due to work, health reasons, other stuff, or just frankly not giving a crap about games for various stretches of time.  It sucked and I hope to get back to playing more next year.

Best Platformer: Shantae Half-Genie Hero- Like taking a trip back in time to the glory days of awesome 16-bit platformers.

Best Fighting Game: Street Fighter V- Yes, despite all its issues...I still played the hell out of it and continue to do so.  It just got some major changes with Season 2, too.

Best FPS (Single Player): SUPERHOT- There some good FPS games this year, but SUPERHOT stood out to me as the most original and unique of all the games.  Love the aesthetic, too.  Runner-up is definitely DOOM.

Best FPS (Multiplayer): Overwatch- This is actually tough because not only are there several contenders, but I also feel like I still haven't spent enough time with any of the games.  For now I'm going with Overwatch, but I also have had some fun with Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2.  I'd actually like to play Modern Warfare Remastered, but I don't want to buy that Infinite Warfare mess.  Overwatch is not a game that I was particularly-enthralled with at the start and didn't buy it right away, but it has been improved and received new modes and content since release, and I've been enjoying it lately.

Best Musou: Fate/Extella- Quiet year for these games.  Not only was I surprised to find that I was really enjoying this Dynasty Warriors-like game, but it also got me into the Fate series.  I've been watching Fate: Unlimited Blade Works and also picked up Fate Extra on PSP, which this game happens to be the sequel to.  This game is also a possible 2017 contender as it comes out in English next month.  But I expect that Musou Stars from Koei will be my favorite beat-em-up next year.

Best Beat-Em-Up: Valkyrie Drive- "Weaponised Lesbians Powered By Orgasms."  GOTY.  :doge

Best Adventure Game: Uncharted 4- This is the only single-player game that kept me up until the wee hours of the morning until I finished it.  While I haven't finished Rise Of The Tomb Raider yet, I think the fact that I was glued to UC4 and still haven't beaten Lara's latest shows which game I liked more.  Looking forward to Chloe Raider next year, too.

Best Comeback: SNK- The King Of Fighters XIV is an excellent return to form -and it's continuing to get support from SNK, with new content coming and a graphics upgrade in January- and I look forward to seeing what they have next.

Worst Company: FUCKONAMI- 'Nuff said.

Best new hardware: The PCs I got this year.  :rock

Biggest thing I didn't care about: Playstation VR.

Best game I didn't play: Hitman-  This is getting a lot of praise.

I don't think anyone really cares about PSVR  :lol

All the hype seems to go gone.  Stock, too.  I wonder if Resident Evil 7 will do anything for it.

Nintendo's had their fair share of gimmicky bombs too, but for the most part they seem to try to keep them going for at least a year or two (eReader, MotionPlus, the Wii U.)

Didn't PlayStation also have a book shaped controller thing that you could use to cast magic spells or something?

I think I played less and bought more games this past year than any time in my life. I still have like 6 games in shrinkwrap due to decent BF sales and no time to play anything. 2017 year of crackout.

GOTYs (mostly stuff that held my interest all the way through):
Dragon Quest Builders - Has a few poor parts, but super nostalgia kick and fun enough system.
DOOM - Pretty fantastic and much better than expected. Didn't really like demo, but enough people wouldn't shut up about and found out why. Combat and flow were aces.
SFV - Botched in many ways but still one of most played games this year I think. I am one of those people that want an arcade mode added, but overall great feel. Expected to ditch for KOF but kept coming back...haven't checked S2 yet.
FFXIV - Finally made way through heavensward. dope, best FF story in years.

My top list for 2016

1.Doom-Every encounter was a thrill a miunte.

2.Titanfall 2-Just in general some of the most amazing set pieces in a long time.

3.Final Fantasy XV-Heavily flawed, but it still has a very charming cast and engaging world.

4.Quantum Break-Surprisingly good story and just good TPS gameplay.

5.Odin Sphere Leifthrasir-Fixes all the problems of the original.

6.Uncharted 4-It does everything that the previous games did well, but I also feel like it finally gets what makes Uncharted stand out. Great verticallity in it's level design and some amazing moments.

7.Dark Souls 3-Simply a good game.

8.Call of Duty Infinite Warfare-Probably the best COD campaign since MW2.

9.Battlefield 1-I don't like it as much as BF4, but the map design so far has been great and it's still solid BF.

10. Watch Dogs 2-It's not perfect as the gunplay and stealth is bad. Yet, the presentation is full of personality, the city looks great, and the missions actually felt like they had some thought to them. An open world game that did'nt feel super tedious.
