OK, this is how things are shaping up for me right now. This was a weird year and I probably played less games than I ever have before, either due to work, health reasons, other stuff, or just frankly not giving a crap about games for various stretches of time. It sucked and I hope to get back to playing more next year.
Best Platformer: Shantae Half-Genie Hero- Like taking a trip back in time to the glory days of awesome 16-bit platformers.
Best Fighting Game: Street Fighter V- Yes, despite all its issues...I still played the hell out of it and continue to do so. It just got some major changes with Season 2, too.
Best FPS (Single Player): SUPERHOT- There some good FPS games this year, but SUPERHOT stood out to me as the most original and unique of all the games. Love the aesthetic, too. Runner-up is definitely DOOM.
Best FPS (Multiplayer): Overwatch- This is actually tough because not only are there several contenders, but I also feel like I still haven't spent enough time with any of the games. For now I'm going with Overwatch, but I also have had some fun with Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2. I'd actually like to play Modern Warfare Remastered, but I don't want to buy that Infinite Warfare mess. Overwatch is not a game that I was particularly-enthralled with at the start and didn't buy it right away, but it has been improved and received new modes and content since release, and I've been enjoying it lately.
Best Musou: Fate/Extella- Quiet year for these games. Not only was I surprised to find that I was really enjoying this Dynasty Warriors-like game, but it also got me into the Fate series. I've been watching Fate: Unlimited Blade Works and also picked up Fate Extra on PSP, which this game happens to be the sequel to. This game is also a possible 2017 contender as it comes out in English next month. But I expect that Musou Stars from Koei will be my favorite beat-em-up next year.
Best Beat-Em-Up: Valkyrie Drive- "Weaponised Lesbians Powered By Orgasms." GOTY.
Best Adventure Game: Uncharted 4- This is the only single-player game that kept me up until the wee hours of the morning until I finished it. While I haven't finished Rise Of The Tomb Raider yet, I think the fact that I was glued to UC4 and still haven't beaten Lara's latest shows which game I liked more. Looking forward to
Chloe Raider next year, too.
Best Comeback: SNK- The King Of Fighters XIV is an excellent return to form -and it's continuing to get support from SNK, with new content coming and a graphics upgrade in January- and I look forward to seeing what they have next.
Worst Company: FUCKONAMI- 'Nuff said.
Best new hardware: The PCs I got this year.
Biggest thing I didn't care about: Playstation VR.
Best game I didn't play: Hitman- This is getting a
lot of praise.
