Didn't like the original when it originally came out, but IIRC they fixed some stuff with it after I had returned it.(?)

So I'm gonna try it again.  Got the game and season pass from GMG for $16.  I see you can unlock the framerate and get rid of the black bars on PC, too.

Ok game until they shove you in a small room and make you fight wave after wave of enemies. And this happens way too much. RE4 only had the stupid cabin scene.

- Shinji Mikami is executive producing, not directing.
- Director is Ikumi Nakamura, who was the first game's Lead Artist and one of three Tango employees being groomed for a director role by Mikami himself.
- Engine is rumored to be Unreal Engine 4 based on recent Tango hiring positions. The original game used a heavily modified idTech 5, which led to most of that game's jank. (It actually originally started as an Unreal Engine 3 game.)
- Takes place three years after the first game.

Quote
From Tango Gameworks and horror mastermind Shinji Mikami comes The Evil Within 2, the sequel to the widely-praised 2014 survival horror game. In order to save Lily – the daughter he believed he lost years ago – Sebastian will have to step into the madness once again. Announced during the Bethesda E3 2017 Showcase, The Evil Within 2 will launch worldwide on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on Friday the 13th in October 2017.

Set in Union, a crumbling city built using Lily’s mind as the Core, The Evil Within 2 presents a mix of closed off, claustrophobic environments that are reminiscent of the first game, and new, less linear areas that will give you the opportunity to explore at your own pace. You’ll be able to wander freely and poke through all the dark corners of the world at your leisure, but this is still a survival horror game, and ammo and resources will be scarce. You’ll need to prepare carefully and move cautiously as you discover the secrets of Union and unravel Mobius’ plans from within STEM.

Using Sebastian’s new communicator device, you will have intermittent access to the real world, with Sebastian’s former protégé Juli Kidman feeding you information from the other end. The communicator device also acts as your guide to Union, offering up unique resonance points in the world that will lead you to resources, side quests, information about the state of the city, and even Lily as you use the communicator to follow in your daughter’s footsteps through STEM. You’ll have to dust off your detective skills and put them to work as you journey through the warped wreckage of Union and face off against untold evils in your attempt to rescue Lily before it’s too late.

Head First into Hell

Years ago, before the events of The Evil Within, Sebastian’s daughter Lily died in a tragic house fire. His wife left him shortly after and his life continued to deteriorate when he was pulled into the web of a sinister corporation called Mobius. It has now been three years since his investigation into a series of grisly murders brought him to Beacon Mental Hospital, where Sebastian Castellanos found himself trapped in a deranged nightmare world created inside the mind of a killer.

After barely surviving the events of the first game, Sebastian was alone. He lost his job, his will, everything. No one believed his story about Beacon, and he has spent the last three years searching for the people responsible for what happened to him at Beacon Mental Hospital, turning up no leads. But now, for the first time in years, Sebastian has a glimmer of hope. Kidman reenters his life and offers him a chance at redemption: Lily is still alive and is being used by Mobius to create a new STEM world, and if Sebastian is willing to submit himself to hell, there’s a chance he can find her and free her. Sebastian will have to journey into STEM once more and face off against untold evil in order to save his daughter.

The story we’ve crafted for you is very compelling,” Executive Producer Shinji Mikami says. “Each stage you’ll delve into is very unique. I hope people enjoy the game, and I encourage everyone to thoroughly explore the world.

Well that is good, at least.

Is Mikami still planning on directing games or is he ascending to Video Game Mount Olympus and done with us filthy mortals?

I was mistaken, the director is actually John Johanas, who led Chapter 9 in the first game (one of the best chapters) and directed the Nicole Kidman DLC (The Assignment and The Consequence.)

Which is REALLY encouraging to me because the main reason I loved TEW is because it felt like a more stealth-focused RE4, and the DLC drove that home even more.

It's the same exact thing they did for a pre-order bonus for the first game though.

It's kinda annoying how on Amazon you can pre-order all the physical versions for <$50, but if you want a digital steam key it's $60+ but if I buy the physical PC box which probably has a steam key on the inside it's <$50. I'm assuming the PC version will run the best so will probably get the physical PC version.

Dude I've been waiting for an over the shoulder game that's even as good as RE5 for a long while. Not's even mention as good as RE4. There's just something so exciting and thrilling to play an over the shoulder shooter that is'nt about cover, but about leaving yourself open to take that shot. I wish there more RE4 type shooters than Gears type shooters.

I'll have to get around to playing the PC version soon, but it being a technical mess on consoles kind of makes this untrue. RE5 has never ran like garbage and does not feel janky to play.

Fuuuck this all sounds so good. This especially:

Quote
Some of the biggest monsters can not be killed, but the screen tints to a blue tone when you're around a foe who is unbeatable to let you know not to mess with it (some unstopable forces wander dynamically through the game world).

That sounds fantastic.

Ended up buying this on PC, but sounds like a shit port. You chose poorly gif and all.

Then again PS4 doesn't even use Pro, but supposedly runs totally smooth 30fps locked while PC has unstable 45-55 with microstutters and shit. Maybe time to steam refund and pick up PS4 version...

THERES TOO MANY GOOD GAMES

Yeah, with FF14 and Cold Steel 3 I don't have time for much else gaming-wise this month. But TEW2 and Mario Odyssey and even that new Raw Disaster spinoff with Eva/Godzilla is out next week in Japan. Not ready for other games ><

But loved TEW despite horrible horrible sections, so looking forward to this. Read a review that said they removed all the horribly frustrating bullshit sections from TEW1 which basically means the game will be amazing since that was the only thing bad about the first one. Never played a game with so many 9/10 or 10/10 sections mixed with 1/10 sections.

Or just lock it at 30 until they patch things up.

But if the game has stuttering issues, that's still gonna be apparent on 30fps.

I really want to get this game but I won't be getting a "good" paycheck from my new job until the 26th. I'll end up Redboxing it at the start of my next 4 days off and marathoning through it though. I'm playing through the first one again right now even though this second one is like the Resident Evil 4 to Evil Within 1's Resident Evil 1. Still loved the hell out of TEW1 though!

After playing through the first one in the forced letterbox mode when it FIRST came out on PS4, I really don't think any of the stuttering or frame-rate issues will bother me at all.

The PS4 versions have Digital Foundry's seal of approval, 30fps and no PS4 Pro enhancements notwithstanding.
