I gotta say though. They're kinda pathetic in that they had a chance to reset GAF and decided to just copy gafs entire motif in gaming, gaming community, off topic, off topic community. It's wack and that set up been old hat for years. If they were smart, once they get enough users, they'd make a sports forum, a politics forum, a gaming troll forum for people to get that out of their system and ban anyone who makes trolls or system warz in the main gaming forum. But they won't. Because they're gaffers and gaffers never learn.

From several pages ago, but I have to disagree. Sure, initially I thought that gaf might have benefited from having subforums when it got really big, but consolidating all non-gaming discussion to one subforum seemed to actually be a better move, imo. It's also smart in that, by making sure everything aggregates in one forum, it provides the impression that there's way more activity than there probably would have been otherwise with multiple subforums.

Resetera looks like it's going to serve it's purpose just fine and be exactly what the users want, so I'm not really sure it's a failure other than they'll have to figure out some scaling and load balancing concerns. If people end up eating themselves it's not like that wasn't already happening on gaf and that never came to a proper head. The only reason gaf imploded was because of the expose made on Evilore's sexual harassment. Obviously a place with hands on moderation is going to have it's own drama.

At this point I'm not sure I'm really seeing anything that I haven't seen before, people are back to their bubbles and the same old communication woes.

Yeah, that's what I'm seeing too. Hopefully it will work out for the folks at the new forum. I've been visiting gaf for about 9 years now. Now I'll just visit a couple more forums that didn't exist until this week or I didn't know existed until this week. After all of this, I've got more choices.

The weirdest thing is that the victim who came forward has been pretty much erased. The new forum won't discuss it, and the old forum is now obsessed with the "response" rather than any thing else. Predictable I guess!

You (and Poli-GAF) and Hillary only have yourselves to blame for the fact you weren't paying attention to the other side and numerous polls showing various issues that led to Trump winning.

I have no doubt that some white supremacists helped him win. But them (and Russia) alone weren't the only factors.

Like I said in the politics thread: Read some fucking Newspapers, Twitter, polls, Reddit, etc. bitches, it helps you get the "pulse" of what is going on. And I don't even fucking follow politics outside of the election season.

IP logging is usually for mod eyes only and I doubt anyone had the sense to grab any kind of data on the way out. They've been vetting people by discord and various OT / community groups, so I don't think there's anything mad complicated going on. Because there's some mod continuity, they'll probably remember some of the more notorious users to watch out for. Everyone is so invested in it doing well, community dogpiling will probably help the forum police itself early on.
