Well I mean the posters that are left are the "hey man I just want to talk about games people". These are the people who aren't really interested in talking about games so much, rather just telling you they like Game A and only want to to talk to people who also like game .

Yeah, I notice that most of the threads that remain active have a lot of 1-2 sentence posts.  Like people are trying to keep the forum rolling, but don't have a whole lot to say.

I suppose it's entirely possibly that NeoGAF was kept running full-speed not by its 100,000+ members, but by 10,000 or less people who were just incredibly active and enthusiastic.  Evilore will probably always have more users, but if those people aren't really all that enthused or talkative it doesn't matter.

It was always clear to me that a relatively small number of very active members were responsible for giving NeoGAF its character. Once they were driven off in favor of chasing the woke crowd the atmosphere just changed and it wasn't the same hardcore insider-gaming forum.

And everything became super serious. Everyone looking to be outraged, nobody could take a joke anymore.

Everyone is so sensitive these days. Happy to have found this place and after lurking a bit decided to join now. Even today I was banned by giantbomb because I made a joke about someone having adhd in regards to their computer setup with 10 monitors running at once.

Was getting spammed by like dozen ppl then mod pinged and banned for making a joke about a mental disorder. Mod then chatted with me at length about how hurtful my post was and how it could lead to tragedy. It got worse but yeah I left and now here.

I'm surprised Besada wasn't offered to be a mod. You could tell he loved the power, and even had GAF in his Twitter handle. He was the first to resign, and his reputation is also pretty good with those at Reset ERA.

There was that whole thing were he basically admitted to working to get people he disagreed with banned. And that he protected some users but persecuted others.

Not sure that is something you want in your brand new positive forum.

Thing is that the kind of people Besada actively tried to get banned are likely people that those at Reset ERA would ban themselves in an instant.  So those notorious  Besada pms should not really hurt his cause.

To be fair Evilore hasn't put any time or effort into Twitter for like years now.  It's pretty obvious he doesn't want to engage in any platforms where he can't ban/silence/delete anyone that displeases him.  If someone were to just waltz up to him and say "Hey there Elrond, have you grabbed any tight asses lately?" and it stayed in the public record, it would drive him nuts.

The "mods are making Reset" was a bullshit rumor but there are a number of former mods on the site. They're just all regular members. The jist I get is that most of them were too exhausted of dealing with Evilore and GAF to want to jump into modding again. Can't say I blame them.

In any case I don't know if you should switch anything from the current default, it's too ingrained after 11 years or whatever. But the option for more adventurous users would be nice. Maybe in 2025 we could make it the default for new users or something lol.
