Honestly, the writing was had been on the wall for ages, I'm surprised it took this long for the deadwood to go up in flame. Malka always cultivated a cult of personality around himself. He got off on fanning the worst sorts of flames.

Just look at the type of interactions and company that were worth his time all the way back then.

As much as this whole ordeal is about Malka, it's clear the greater story for people is the OT culture dissolving. There's a bifurcation of people distraught over losing the OT, and relived that the mass exodus means they can take their community elsewhere where the culture is less volatile. It's ironic that retribution heavy culture that stemmed from Evilore's insecurities and need to stifle those that would little him, has now come back to bite him by a horde of mods acting in solidarity against Malka after years of kowtowing to him. It's further ironic that the people who wanted to get away from OT moderation but never would because of the community momentum of gaf, get to do so now because the mods first have left; Conversely, those that clung to the OT to it's final days are now finding refuge in forums populated by user's who have specifically fled gaf's culture and moderation.

Sure. Over the last few years, but really since Donald Trump bragged about sexual assault, the left really hardened around the idea that there is an environment where powerful men abuse their power to sexually assault women and pressure them into sexual favors. Evilore had many experiences like this, but years ago people laughed them off.

Now, with the Weinstein fervor, more and more women are speaking out about this. The forum was 100% hard in on the 'you fuck up once, you are dead for life to us" mentality and Evilore had more than one accusation of sexual assault out there.  Someone spoke up about Evilore jumping into her shower uninvited while he was naked. The people of GAF demanded a statement and none came forward. All the mods are quitting and the forum is in complete chaos.

About ten minutes ago, the Truman show went to static.  This may really be the end.

There's been a lot of different phases that gradually made the place worse.  Some got fixed, but as time went on the banned body count of quality members kept going up.

My current account here is fairly new, but I first joined when this was Evilbore probably around 2006 or so.  The reason for joining, even back then, was because many of the best posters started coming here and the atmosphere was more loose.  Loose, but not a shithole like some other offshoot forums or the more recent places like VOAT.

To those concerned this place will become a shithole like VOAT or insufferable like latter day GAF, I understand the worry but I just don't think it'll happen.  There's more inviting places for alt-right shits to populate, and the holier than thou SSWs don't dare to stick around here too long.

One hopes they just keep their mouths shut from here on out of shame.  I'd say they were shameless, but apparently there is at least some degree of hypocrisy that would make them resign en masse.

Resignation seems like kind of an empty gesture at this point.  Presumably the site owner spent a great deal of time traveling and couldn't be around 24/7 to delete accusations, so it's pretty clear that a significant portion of the moderation staff spent their time mopping up his mess.  To bail out only when the writing is on the wall is not exactly commendable.

I am mostly just curious what staffers were told to do about these problematic posts, and if they believed those posts were just coming from angry muckrakers.

In some sense that's reasonable -- a lot of the attacks on NeoGAF were coming from GamerGate and the Alt-Right.  At the same time, even a cursory web search would have revealed that the site admin publicly admitted to groping some woman in Spain.  Maybe nobody bothered to even look into the claims that were being made, but it's hard to buy into that level of negligence.  If my boss were accused of harassment, I'd probably at least do a Google search for his name or his accuser's name.
