Another issue with GAF, is the fact that it's a videogame forum - and the moderators and community acted as if the minutia of every issue must have an opinion exposed to it.

This may be a shocking revelation to some there, but, believe it or not you do NOT have to have an opinion on everything. In fact, you do not even need to harbor political or weird social discussions whatsoever. If I were running the site, years ago I would have taken it into an objective direction and blocked all political or social discussion.

No one from the American Psychiatric Association is going to quote a NeoGAF thread in the next DSM for opinions on pedophilia. And even if NeoGAF were as self important as some think it is, we'll all be buried or ash in 100 years anyway.

I think we can all agree on the fact child abuse is horrible, and should be reported to nearest precinct if needed. Someone born with down syndrome, blindness, or any kind of impairment doesn't even have THAT option. I just want to talk about video games, film, and television with cool people. The political bs that infected the entire forum was getting completely out of hand. But I consistently just "kept my head down" and focused on talking about that stuff I was there to talk about in the first place. A few weeks ago I started to really dislike the site though, despite being a member since 2010 and lurking since about 2006.

It was in a topic about A Hat in Time, which is a fantastic game. People were shitting up every thread with crap about the JonTron cameo (I actually had no idea who JonTron even was before all that). No discussion about the actual game was happening and there were literally people calling others nazis and white supremacist supporters if they bought and played this game. It was absurd. I e-mailed a mod, I think it was Duckroll, to you know -- moderate. He basically told me to go fuck myself. I obviously can't screencap the whole PM now but I do remember him saying "What did you expect?". I hadn't ever asked the GAF mods to do anything before that so it was really shocking to me.

I don't feel that kind of attitude and fostering that kind of behavior helped anything.

I wouldn't say I'm "happy" NeoGAF is gone (or seemingly gone). I enjoyed talking with a lot of the members there. But I can't argue that the entire situation had gotten completely out of hand and was actively ruining something that should be fun: discussing entertainment we enjoy.

It's definitely odd. You would think some of the individuals had never worked with others or been in an office environment in their life. Since you reminded me what the account name was - I don't see why you think it's his outside of the account name being the same. I was a semiactive neogaf poster for 3 or 4 years. I consider myself a liberal, feminist and pro LGBT. Since gamergate I feared to express my opinion on Neogaf. There was no middle-ground. Questioning "commercial Victims" (you know the type, who have Patreon sites being a professional victim of harassment of white males) got you banned. So even if you wanted to discuss the militarization of Feminism and the wrong road it is going, you couldn't because you were automatically a rapist racist.

I don't know about that.
After he wrote a piece about the recent ND allegations people on gaf called his article a hitpiece etc. because it happened to be not 100% favorable to the victim.
