I can't credit them (yet) because I don't know if it's because that's the tone the admins and mod team are setting or if it's because their hands are full with other stuff, but I'm keeping an open mind.

I think they're kinda conscious the entire greater gaming community will consider them a bunch of insane Social Studies Warriors again, so they're keeping it down. I mean, most of them probably know a ton of people are just waiting for them to return to Crazytown. And at least one poster in the thread wrote just that. We'll see if it lasts. Would be kinda boring, but certainly for the best.

The Trump hysteria is dissipating as well.  There were many who truly believed that a fascist takeover was happening and approached social media like it was a knife fight.

I mean the alarm for corruption and destruction of ethical regulation was certainly prudent.

What's with all the juniors on GAF? Alts?

"My number one goal as moderator is to straddle the fine line between keeping the community up to snuff while making sure not to be a bully. Thank you for your words, we're all trying our best. But it is a learning process."

For those of you wondering what the staff at Era think, they know why Gaf failed and started to become a cesspit.

Still, saying it and doing it are two different things but for now they are doing a good job.

All I can say is good riddance to modbot. It started out as supposedly being a way to shield moderators from pm spam and attacks and quickly just descended into a way for someone sitting behind anonymity to act like a raging asshole both in the topic and in the ban message.

My last ban was a modbot ban and the piece of shit told me to put myself into therapy because every one hated me. Takes a real big man to dig through someone's post history, see he mentioned a suicide attempt, and sit behind an anonymous mask and hurl that back into someone's face knowing they'd never have the chance to face any consequences for it.

In all the drama and lulz of the past few days, Jack saying he doesn't have a hard on for Hillary is probably the funniest thing I've seen on all 3 boards.

Would you say I have a hard on for Obama?

I supported him even more vehemently, particularly in like 2009-2012, and then again in 2014.

Supporting one politician = normal, but supporting another = shilling and having a hard on?
I was just having a little joke.

Do you know if the approval is what triggers the confirmation or do you have to get the confirmation and then wait for the approval?

confirmation then approval, just like GAF

Hope it doesnt take half a year like GAF

Also have seen a few remarks on ResetEra on avoiding celebrating bans. Can agree with the sentiment.

I tried signing up for ResetEra but it says my email is banned by an administrator.  Doesn't make any sense - my account on neoGAF wasn't banned and my email address isn't public.  What's this all about?

Nah they fucked up big time crying wolf. Also when everyone dogpile someone no matter how much deserving or not people will grow sympathy and root for the perceived underdog. They made Trump a martyr. They also didn't mind ignoring him and helping him to win the Republican primary assuming he would be easier to beat and for those awesome ratings. If they don't want 8 years Trump they should stop calling him Hitler everyday and writing essays on every tweet.

Totally.  But nobody is getting rid of the constitution or elections, and the world will still be here when he leaves office.

He's a racist piece of shit that justifies the racism of our country. He is the worst president of my lifetime and by far the scariest of my lifetime. And I'm old. He deserves every piece of criticism he gets and more. And he has a legion of flunky apologists that defend him by saying "he's not that bad!"

That being said, I still don't need 20 trump threads a day at the expense of all other content. The problem with neogaf wasn't that they had a hard-on for hating Trump. It was that they didn't know how to moderate it or properly setup the board to handle discussion on it.

Well, one improvement is that the front page isn't littered with circle jerking Nintendo OT topics.  I mean, even the Media Create thread degenerated into a Nintendo circle jerk topic.  It was literally the same posters every making exactly the same posts praising Nintendo.

But FFX is actually my favourite Final Fantasy game. Does that mean that Trump will be my favourite president or that I have shit taste?

I EXPECT it to take a couple weeks until it slowly turns back into the shitshow that GAF was. People are behaving right now, especially the garbage-tier posters, because they're likely scared shitless to catch a ban and move 1 step closer to a perm. Then they'll truly have nowhere to go.

Resetera is already at a WAY higher posts per hour than GAF has been in recent history.

I used web archives to see how many posts per hour GAF got From October 1st-14th, and it was right around 1500 posts per hour.

Resetera demolished that in it's race to 100k posts;  nearly doubling the rate.. and that rate has been going up not down.

In defense Era is now at 10,000 without open registration.

Hysteria isn't quite the right word to use to describe opposition to Donald Trump. He's the least qualified president in our history, disgraces the country every time he opens his mouth, and is likely putting the country in danger.

Maybe people aren't having emotional meltdowns about it anymore, but the opposition hasn't dissipated one bit, and it never will. Rightly so.

From my perspective, he seems incompetent so not much is going to get done.  Whereas guys like GWB and Cheney  were genuinely bad for the country because they weren't incompetent.  And wtf with democrats liking that warmonger now.

I'm glad there are passionate folks out there fighting for what they think is right.  I just wish they weren't so easy to manipulate.  like why is anyone defending or trying to explain away that whole uranium + $145 000 000 donation thing?  or that bizarre dossier? In my ideal world, the amount of outrage would be the same no matter which party the corruption occurred in.

Because.

Russia didn't get control over 20% of our uranium. A Russian company bought a 51% stake in a Canadian mining company that already had a contract to handle those mining operations. None of the uranium is exported. It's all sold to U.S. power companies. Approval of the deal went through nine separate agencies, and Clinton didn't even vote on it - her undersecretary did. The bulk of that $145 million was donated by one of the Canadian owners years before the deal. It went to a charitable foundation that has A ratings from Charity Watch and Charity Navigator.

There is literally nothing to the story. Or the dossier story. They paid a U.S. company who hired an MI6 agent to look into suspicious dealings in Russia. Not a scandal.

The GOP will push fake scandal narratives against literally any political opponent. I'm not budging an inch on any one of them, unless real evidence exists, which it absolutely does not in this case.

Seriously, no matter who the 2020 candidate is, whether it's Bernie, Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, or whoever, the GOP and Fox News will invent and push scandals to attack them. It's what they do. It's like all they do.

Can you honestly say if the roles were reversed and it was Trump's charity that had a 145M donation, Trump's wife who was secretary of state, and Trump had lied about a secret dossier leaked to the media based on russian intel that you'd see it the same way?

If everyone associated with Hilary has connection to Russia, kept lying about meeting russians and only Russians and was on record several times doing incriminating things with Russians I would.

To be fair it's difficult to keep moderation strictly cold and professional (probably the most time efficient for a mod and slows the inevitable burn out) in such a community driven setting of which the mods are part of.

I'm praising the current good intentions over at REEE but on the other hand custom tags, sick burns and silly antics were certainly part of the charm of NeoGAF in the earliest days I browsed it. It was maybe impossible in that context to reform a beloved culture even though it started eating itself out despite the growth of the site probably warranting it (same with Lore's management, why fix it when it's an easy meal ticket already ?). Surely everyone, here included, would have lamented how GAF used to be cool. Still in hindsight, being uncool would have beaten it burned to the ground.

Got details or links?

lager bet me an avatar that if Switch doesn't sell 40m life time I have to take on an avvy of his choice. If it hits 40m (which I said it will), he has to have an avatar admitting his love for one of my greatest pleasures: big black cock.

This is good.
I like it.

Yo now that hill-gaf created their own forum, migrating back to neogaf sounds somewhat palatable. #gofundmeEvilore

I knew Evilore was going to Newspeak the new OT on GAF but I didn't realize until I just went over that he was going to go full 1984 and just delete the entire history of posts on that side.

So far so good for ResetEra.

At 15,000 members and the board is much more civil and friendly than I can remember GAF ever being.

We will see if it last but so far....

And also the moderation has been extremely benign so far with only a few bans for obvious trolling and mostly just warnings to people.

Joe, it depends.

Does Trump's charity have A ratings from both major watchdogs? Does it distribute most of the AIDS medication in Africa? Do I personally know two people from my grad school who went to work there and are passionate about their mission? Is Trump a lifelong public servant instead of a lifelong con-man in this scenario?

I'm just asking if party affiliation plays a role in how you judge things.

IMO, the most rational approach is not to declare guilt or innocence based suppositions and statements from political parties.  It looks bad enough from the outside that having an investigation is a good idea, just like the one for Trump.

Not necessarily party affiliation. Anything pushed by Fox News or Hannity is suspect though.

Basically a major problem in this country is that right-wing media lies about absolutely everything. There's probably no greater force for dishonesty in our country.

All major media (Fox, NBC, ABC, CNN, et. al.) is right wing propaganda. There is absolutely zero actual journalism coming from the networks many call "liberal."

I imagine it has to be monetized at some point. An I imagine it could make money.

The lack of ads is awesome though.

I think they allow someone to contest names if you can prove your longstanding connect with the name. But you would obviously have to register under a different name first.

ResetTears hasn't burned to the ground yet, oh well. I guess the fact that Neogaf has now been succeeded meaning it is always going to remains a shadow of itself will sustain me.
Great week of delicious internet drama

Considering adblock, the low CPM on Adsense and such and I imagine the lack of contacts in the ad industry for gaming and such, they might be better off just doing it with Patreon or something like that for a while. I can see the active users donating a few bucks a month and that can add up, at least covering server costs and a bit extra.
