The new detachable Pixelbook (codename Nocturne) will officially be called "Google Pixel Slate."

For $500 something dollar phone the Oneplus 6 t is where it's at, honestly. Great value it seems.

Yup. Past gens it feels like they always messed up 1-2 things, but this one looks like a keeper.

If there a rumored price for the detachable chrome book? I can use a <counts> 5th laptop.

Not really. There's been a jumble of rumors, one from a while ago is that one of the Pixelbooks would be "lower cost" and around $500, but no one's sure which one that could apply to, or if it's true. I believe the detachable (Pixel Slate) has a 3000 x 2000 resolution, which probably won't be super cheap though.

Is that icon size the default for AOSP? My new Moto G6 has all the icons tiny (plus installed bloatware like Facebook by default) and it's driving me crazy after having the stock-Android icon size be like that photo.

Really? I'm not sure if it's screen size or the OEM/mobile company changing the size, but after having them be iPhone app sized (not sure if you get what I mean) on my G4, my G6 being super tiny (but having space for like 50+ apps per "page") while nice, is a little annoying since I'm used to the "default"/AOSP size. I can't seem to find a UI setting for it (like displaying the battery status % and milliseconds on the clock). It's driving me crazy.

(Along with not knowing [due to XDA navigation being a hot-mess of unusable] if this variant is able to be flashed stock to get rid of the fucking bloatware on the recovery partition. I like Android, but Jesus the OEM cancer each installs...)

You should be able to install an alternate launcher and adjust the size there, no root needed.

And yeah, stock/Google Android 4.0-4.3 had "standard" size icons, then it jumped in size for 4.4-6.0 (I think?), then when the first Pixel launched they reined it back in.

I wasn't on board with the circle icons at first, but adaptive icons are a huge step forward and two weeks ago the last of my apps finally updated with support. Going forward, apps can have whatever icon shape or size the launcher can dream up (provided they expose it to users.)

Also smh at selling a Chromecast and mini Google Home as a "Smart TV kit" rather than anything with Android TV on it. Just kill it already

Pixel Slate looks nice. Iíll wait for reviewsóIíd be sticking with the low-end model because I donít need this and I at least need to pretend to be responsible. I have too many computers:

MBP 2017
MacBook 2017 (I bought it in like April. They didnít do a new model this year right?)
HP Spectre 2-in-1
HP Omen gaming laptop
iPad
Work MBP (2015 I think)

I think thatís it. I listed the iPad because itís the one I use most.

:yeshrug im not a fan of the new pixel. Def a bit dorky relative to other flagship phones and, despite loving the S9s looks, you won't catch me buying a Samsung phone (dat bloatware). idgaf about having a top quality camera so it's been a 7 plus for me.

Base spec Pixel 3 is being debuted at more than twice the price of a 7 Plus here (1200AUD vs ~500AUD). 7 plus is the same res with a larger screen, significantly better battery, better looks, and an sd slot. Pixel 3 has a p-oled screen, slightly better chipset and better camera. Google aren't making a great case for that premium pricing imo. I would be surprised if Pie runs noticeably better on a Pixel 3.

Edit: Compared to the S9+ this is embarrassing. If i was gonna spend dumb money on a prem phone I prob would consider Samsung just 'cause the specs and design are that damn good, and it's still cheaper than the base spec Pixel :lol. I'd make an exception for the bloatware. Pixel is seemingly reserved for a very special set of google fanboys.

Chromecast 2018 adds support for 1080p60 and is once again $35. Later in the year it will also gain Chromecast Audio functionality, turning a TV into another set of speakers that can be added to a multi-room group for music or podcast playback.

Under the hood, it's officially certified for Bluetooth, which might come into play if Google decides to make a Chromecast remote device in the future.

That Slate looks neat.  Chrome OS though...has that gotten better?

Android and Linux support isn't 100% smooth yet, but it's pretty close and massively increases the value proposition of a Chromebook. Google is also in the process of certifying their Chrome OS devices for Windows 10 dual boot functionality, which will probably hit next year.

If you get a Chromebook with that support, that's one device that can run apps for three OSes out of the box, with support for a fourth on its way. If you think the hardware is worth the price, the OS is rapidly becoming less of a con and more of a pro.

That pixel is not impressive at all, even less so than what apple offered considering Apple came out with the Max this year.

However, where google does impress is with their A.I/assistant integration. That hold call/screen feature is very nice. Apple needs to catch up with shit like that.
