Also, no woman called me a faggot for playing with Barbie dolls as a kid. Boys did. No girl called me a taco for having feminine behavior. Boys did. Part of the reason men cannot express themselves is because of...other men. A man won’t call me his girlfriend publicly to his friends even though he loves me because he doesn’t want to be called a taco if they find out I was born male. Men made their bed. That is their creation. Their is their sickness. This is also a common feminist talking point so thanks for fighting the power. :salute

Is this an actual example that has happened to  or projection

It happened. Black men can be very sensitive even though they’re the sexiest men on Earth.

Someone has clearly not seen the Drag Race Thailand Pit Crew.

I know plenty of women that will use the word taco at the drop of a hat and make fun of down low men and such.

Somehow this single post by an avatar-less junior triggered three of our resident conservative alts on the same page. Congrats breh. 👏🏻

I have the potato cannon but can't find porcupines in my area. Anyway, like I said before very few people seem to actually visit that shithole now to post their insanity so expect more general discussion itt otherwise the thread will wither and die.

https://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/the-difference-between-masculinity-and-toxic-masculinity_us_59842e3ce4b0f2c7d93f54ce

This article attempts to make the argument made by others here.

And is why such an attempt is dishonest at its core.

Quote
How can we hope to stop violent sexual behavior if violence and sexuality are still considered primary virtues of manhood?

According to who? Anyone other than the people who keep saying  toxic masculinity? This is such an immature view of how men are viewed.

Quote
We insist on male dominance, that the physically stronger gender is the superior one—an idea rooted in times of spear-throwing and sword-fighting rather than present day, where machines do most of the building, hunting and fighting for us

Do we? Who does?

Quote
Toxic masculinity in American culture starts with straight, white men and trickles down through marginalized groups, affecting the way they perceive themselves and behave. We can’t examine straight African-American men’s behavior, for example, without first examining the white power structure that influenced it. And we can’t separate how black men treat women from how white men treat black men.

And here comes that intersectional feminism.

The wikipedia article for Toxic Masculinity... is pretty much what I say about it.

And the interesting part about all of this is that this it's all focused on blaming men. Toxic masculinity hurts men, but men are to blame, as if the other gender hasn't been involved in this formation for hundreds upon hundreds of years.  If violence and sex define men, according to these people, and this hurts everyone then how the fuck does 50 shades of grey fit into this world view?

I like capitalism because in a capitalist society you can still choose to live on a commune with and live out your fantasy, but if you live in a communist society and you don't like it, tough shit. I actually know a guy that's a very popular bread baker down here that used to live in a commune with a bunch of dirty hippies.

WAT, a lack of workers in Poland? How is migration going to fix that anyway, 90% of the folks who entered Germany are unemployed and on welfare benefits.
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-europe-migrants-germany-survey/only-13-percent-of-recent-refugees-in-germany-have-found-work-survey-idUSKBN13A22F

Come on breh, the polish migrating to germany aren't unemployed and they aren't refugees. EU-migrants have a higher employment rate than native born in the EU (i don't know about Germany specifically, but i don't see any reason why they should be different).
When they move to Germany it's because that's where they landed a job.

Nah, I'm somewhere between socialism and social democracy so I'm definitely not a classical liberal, although I don't have a problem with them. What really ticks me off usually is authoritarians from any side, I hate everything about them, their behavior towards open debate and free speech, their tactics and their complete lack of self-awareness which results in vast amounts of hypocrisy and lack of objectivity.

It can happen. Even in 2018, despite head is head™: Men can not seem "gay" to other men. Especially men of color. PD and Himu could tell you more, but there's a huge segment of "down-low" black men having sex with other black men but afraid to actually say it out-loud.

If you ignore the PoC (:doge ) bit, it's still the same in highly male fields like the military.

Never said that men aren’t hit with self esteem issues. My main contention is that men, in my experience, do not have nearly the same set of body image difficulties as women. Men being hit with depression and Suicide rates is real and it’s important, but I don’t attribute that to body image. I thought the topic was bad body image, not low self esteem in general?

There's a lot of problems in man-world but no one is really allowed to discuss them without being considered anti-feminist.
After all, straight white males are all privileged and shouldn't complain about anything.

lol this is incredibly dumb and couldn't be further from the truth. You literally just had a good post about the effects of toxic masculinity, which feminists talk about all the time  and then shit the bed at the end.

 :snoop

the toxic masculinity take is part of the problem

Let's do a quick rundown. Men should be allowed to cry if they need to cry. Good. However, if everyone is crying and unable to stand up and handle a problem? That's bad. Toxic masculinity theory doesn't understand that the sentiment that represses emotions also serves a social good. You sometimes do need to put aside emotional displays for the good of everyone. That is also masculinity and its not toxic. It's beneficial to the group. What is toxic is punishing or not appreciating that behavior and calling it toxic with great carelessness.

Whether you agree or disagree with the idea of toxic masculinity, or to what degree any of it might be toxic, you need to understand the scope of the term.  That is, it's not a statement that all masculinity is toxic, just that parts of it are.  That's why it's a condemnation against toxic masculinity rather than just masculinity.

So making a statement about how sometimes it's ok to cry and sometimes people need to repress emotions and get the job done isn't an argument against toxic masculinity, it's sort of agreeing with the main thrust of conversation surrounding it.  The toxic bit is the part where no guy anywhere is supposed to cry.

Now, maybe you think feminists are trying to say that men need to be able to cry in all situations more often than they do now, and you just think they should feel comfortable in crying just a bit more often.  Like I said the degree to which it's a problem is up for debate.  But understand that toxic masculinity =/= all masculinity is toxic.

A term is meaningless if it takes on the level of ambiguity you have just ascribed to "toxic masculinity"

Why not actually articulate the specific detrimental elements of masculinity when shaping an argument around those specific elements?  Why would a generalized term, which when used must be interpreted by the listener, be clearer and more concise than actually communicating what parts of that ambiguous term you are alluding to?

It's a lazy term. It's easy to shout and get people to nod their heads.

It's not used to engage in a dialectic, it is used by insecure preachers of feminism who are too scared or stupid to actually say something of substance .

A term is meaningless if it takes on the level of ambiguity you have just ascribed to "toxic masculinity"
It's a very simple noun phrase following a common pattern, consisting of an adjctive "toxic" and a noun "masculinity", i.e. masculinity, subcategory toxic. There's absolutely no ambiguity there. What's unclear, however, is what it denotes, but like all words, it becomes clear when you learn its meaning(s).

Trying to criticise a particular usage by particular people this way is absurd, as you're indicting language as such. All you've done is to create a hypocritically hollow template to lambast any an all contested terms and/or groups. Just substitute whatever, like, say "neo-liberalism"; to name a completely random example.

If you don't care to find out what it means or want to shit on people who use it, just do that instead, but don't grandstand with nonsense such as this...
Why would a generalized term, which when used must be interpreted by the listener, be clearer and more concise than actually communicating what parts of that ambiguous term you are alluding to?

It's not used to engage in a dialectic, it is used by [insert whom or whatever] who are too scared or stupid to actually say something of substance .
This is a great sentence though, in isolation. I'm highlighting it for no reason whatsoever, because I'm a petty little cunt. :doge

I know the thread is trying to move on from this shit, but I agree.

I don't want to be known as the guy who applauds/defends the use of toxic masculinity.  I was just calling out someone who seemed to misunderstand its intended use and wanted to argue against a strawman version of it.

If anything it's a bad term because you have to explain it like that, since in a vacuum people WILL think it means "all masculinity is toxic."  And other good points were brought up too, of course there are elements of femininity that are toxic too but you don't hear that brought up as a buzzword.
