Nothing tops a fresh glazed donut minutes out of the fryer.  So simple.  So delicious.  Any time I find myself awake a 4am I head to a donut shop to get the fresh stuff.

Like in all things, simple is best. A fresh glazed, or powdered is king.

Favorite is Krispy Kreme regular glazed or jelly, but I pretty much enjoy any type of doughnut.

You can do whatever you want donut wise, but I think if you like plain donuts you're 100% a pedophile.

Krispy Kreme glazed are great but only when fresh. My local spot has a jelly donut with peanut butter frosting that is pretty solid. That's probably my favorite

Don't like KK. Don't like that heavy cake stuff that sits in your stomach all day.

Give me light and fluffy while not a wad of sugar.

Chrono if you’re for some weird reason ever in the pass thru town of Sandy, OR, definitely go to Joe’s Donuts as they have, verifiably, the best maple bar around

the maple custard bismark (bottom row) from my hometown bakery. It might just be the nostalgia talking, but their crème filling was perfect, as was the whole overstuffed construction of the whole thing. I've traveled far, I've not yet tasted a better doughnut in the Western hemisphere.

Does anyone else here consider Krispy Kreme to be bottom-tier donuts? I get that the ethereal aspect of them can be appealing, but I never feel satisfied after finishing one and it's also never as good as I might have imagined it would've been prior to taking a bite, similarly to most of Taco Bell's offerings these days.  :beli

Yeah other than a fresh original, KK is low tier. Dunkin is definitely better as far as chains. Been tough to skip out on donuts lately cause I'm avoiding sweets, but also a Dunkin opened up within short walking distance to my house. :-\

They're not awesome, and they become less awesome quickly. God-tier donuts are still edible the morning after you bought them. KK is not edible without microwaving a couple hours after they come off the mesh.

And in Japan they're ¥200 each. A two dollar donut? Give me a break, you ain't artisan millenial military-grade donuttery.

You have not been close enough the New Orleans.

The closer you get to New Orleans the better the donuts get.

I actually like the morning after test. A coworker brought some glazed old fashioned donuts from a local joint and hid them upstairs for us, and they were fucking incredible even 2 days after they first showed up.

krappy kreme is nothing but garbage, they got the frosting to doughtnut ratio all fucked up. It's like taco bell in donut form, or when you look up recipes to try to recreate your favorite chinese food dishes and nothing comes out right. Better off going to a real doughnut shop or even hitting up a Dunks. Chocolate bars, raspberry filled, maple bar with crispy bacon on top, blueberry cake doughnuts  :jawalrus

I'll drop reasonable change on Psycho Donuts in San Jose, CA. I'm also up for spending on Voodoo Donuts.

KK is a massive franchise that's proud of their conveyor belt process. Why in the aytch-eeh-double-hockey-sticks am I going to pay more for that than the 99¢ donuts at mom-and-pop places, or even the ¥120 donuts of the ubiquitous Mr. Donut?

Hint: I won't.

KK pretty much sucks ass except for the original glazed and even that only if it’s fresh

There was a great shop in San Jose, CA called Lou's Living History Donut Museum. They mixed mashed potatoes in with their dough. Those things were great well into the next day, and enjoyably edible the day after that. When the owner retired, he didn't leave it to anyone, so it closed.  :'(

the jizz-filled donuts are clearly the best. unfortunately the best donuts in stl are way the hell up in north county so i can only get them when i'm out there but god damn they are fucking phenomenal. it's just a small plain shop across the street from a bowling alley that's been there for decades but they keep the most magical warm delicious donuts imaginable inside. they're perfect and taste fresh any time of the day.

Best donuts are Polish doughnuts.

Never understood why you Yanks put holes in your doughnuts, it's such a waste, I mean you could fill'em with so many delicious things like cream, custard or fruit preserves.
