$2 for a donut is pretty cheap.
I'll drop reasonable change on Psycho Donuts in San Jose, CA. I'm also up for spending on Voodoo Donuts.
KK is a massive franchise that's proud of their conveyor belt process. Why in the aytch-eeh-double-hockey-sticks am I going to pay more for that than the 99¢ donuts at mom-and-pop places, or even the ¥120 donuts of the ubiquitous Mr. Donut?
Hint:
I won't.KK pretty much sucks ass except for the original glazed and even that only if it’s fresh

They're not awesome, and they become less awesome quickly. God-tier donuts are still edible the morning after you bought them. KK is not edible without microwaving a couple hours after they come off the mesh.
And in Japan they're ¥200 each. A two dollar donut? Give me a break, you ain't artisan millenial military-grade donuttery.
I actually like the morning after test. A coworker brought some glazed old fashioned donuts from a local joint and hid them upstairs for us, and they were fucking incredible even 2 days after they first showed up.
There was a great shop in San Jose, CA called Lou's Living History Donut Museum. They mixed mashed potatoes in with their dough. Those things were great well into the next day, and enjoyably edible the day after that. When the owner retired, he didn't leave it to anyone, so it closed. :'(
