Will RDR2 scratch my GTA itch?
Not in the slightest. It's much slower in both gameplay and story and there's no real social, cultural, or political commentary like a GTA would have. I'm not saying that in a bad way either, it's just a very different feel.

I did the challenge to drag someone from 3300 feet. That was pretty cathartic but I felt a slight sense of guilt at first.

Also, I was in that podunk town that all the black people live in when I finally decided to do the rob townfolk challenge. I just felt bad robbing from them. I also chose to leave the town before doing the dragging challenge. That's just too far for me.

What you wrote id true, but still it does scratch it quite a bit , even if also very different in some aspects. The heists and such, the criminal life style, the mission set ups, all very gta like.

This game omg :dizzy

So so so awesome. I had a ton of fun yesterday just exploring and looking for animals and herbs.

It seems like a good starting strategy is to upgrade your campground asap? I couldn't figure out where to craft things there - do I need to unlock this or complete a mission first? I can craft things with my mobile camp on the horse...

I feel like single player dlc is unlikely. It’s all just shark cards from here on out.

RDR2 missed a golden chance to incorporate a new card game and sell the card game as a stand alone game next year.  :doge

Maybe, but I accidentally played dominos for like an hour last night :(

Pity you can’t make real money at poker. All the games seem to be low stakes.

IIRC only the last town in RDR had high stakes games. Maybe it's a limiting factor on character wealth intentionally?

I would say thats they case - limit the kind of gear you can obtain earlier I guess. Apparently cash duping exploits have been found already however.

I think I read somewhere that high stakes games exist in RDR2 though

Red Dead Online: Playlists and Jobs Leaked
https://rockstarintel.com/red-dead-online-playlists-and-jobs-leaked/

All appear to be 16 player - A run down so you don't have to go through the pictures.

From the playlists -

 • Name your weapon - Kills with harder weapons grant more points - A pistol will get you lower points, a sniper will get you a high amount of points. (8 Teams / 4 Teams / 2 Teams / FFA)

 • Most Wanted - Rack up a killing streak getting killed resets your streak killing somebody with a high streak grants more points. (~FFA~)

 • Hostile territory - King of the hill (4 Teams / 2 Teams)

 • Team shootout - Standard team deathmatch (4 Teams / 2 Teams)

 • Make it count - One bullet elimination (Bow and Arrow / Throwing Knives variants)

 • Races - Horse races ( Checkpoint / race to a point modes)

And what looks like a few missions that lead you into jobs:

 • Highly Illegal and Highly Moral - What looks to be an introduction to the online morality system.

 • Honor among horse thieves - Learn horse rustling. I assume this will be our way of making money but maybe a capture the flag type mode? It's in the Jobs section but is listed multiple times with the same title like the ones in the playlists are. Capture the flag but using a horse you steal could be fun.

 • If the Hat fits/ The right side of the tracks/Where your morals lead you - Work with police to hunt criminals. Says it takes your honor into account so maybe you can't do this if your honor is too low.

 • Kerosene, Tar and Greed / More than one way to earn a buck - Some sort of job with an oil industry tycoon

 • Kill them each and every one - Kill people for money

 • Love and honour - More morality stuff regarding rescuing a woman from outlaws

Saint Denis is. Nice change of pace so far, but you can tell the game wasn’t built for cities. Only been there a few hours and I’m constantly getting in trouble for running into/over idiots that seem to want to jump out in front of me.

I’m still getting the “loadout arbitrarily disappears” bug.

I'm currently in the South - chapter 3 - looking forward to the mansion mission!

Online seems pretty sweet, I played a few matches last night. I like the mode where you get more points depending on what weapon you use. I found an explosive bow and blew some idiots up for a massive score! Free roam unlocks and upgrades are very expensive, but there must be a few good methods of grinding cash.

I got a bug where I killed a legendary animal and the trapper won't buy its pelt.  Apparently it's common enough that I found several discussions about it online and it has drained my will to just wander around.  I will probably just finish the story and move on.  :fbm

I am on the opposite end, I am 25 hours in and I think I am done. For a modern AAA game, RDR2 has the oddest design decisions I can remember. I can appreciate that to an extnt, but I feel my time is not being valued. I hate these long ass rides to the mission area that I just went to cinematic view and hold x while I do shit on my Ipad.
Some animations take forever and the fact that you have to jump through a lot of hoops to unlock fast travel is just weird.

Sometimes you just don’t feel like doing a 5 minute ride just to give a pelt. I appreciate Rockstar attempts to make you travel around their worlds over fast traveling everywhere... but sometimes you just want to get stuff done. They are trying to get a compromise, I will give them that.

I really like this game  but it feels like a mixed bag of stuff that don’t totally work but is good enough to not be a deal breaker.

How annoying is the griefing in this? It made GTAOnline unplayable for me, and i figure with a game as slow as this, it's probably 10x more annoying.
I wish they had just made a mode like Ghost Recon Wildlands, but using the Online campaign they have, so i could just team up with a friend or two, and coop the whole thing privately, instead of having to worry about economy and shit.

Yeah, that's a valid concern.

GTA Online and RDR 1 degenerate into complete griefing in Free Mode, so it's generally better to stick with the actual modes where specific win conditions are supported. GTA Online has the ability to start up a private server and limit it to your Friends or Crew or invited players.

I've not yet purchased RDR2, but I bet it'll be similarly structured for invite-only Free Mode lobbies.

Your guy looks a lot like Cripps - your camp helper NPC in online :lol

I think this game has too much content. Everytime I'm riding to do a story mission like 3 new white "?" stranger pips pop up. My ocd is like urrrrr better go check this out. And yep its another manic asshole gesticulating like crazy in typical R* fashion asking for free shit which Arthur is always obliging to give. Fuck the strangers. Although the 'Margaret' missions were the best in the game so far and the "Oh Brother" mission thread is hysterical

And apparently for 100% completion you need to find all dinosaur bones and dreamcatchers - super hidden objects which as far as I can tell theres no in-game collectible maps to help you find them. Just old-school FAQ checklist following. Barf. Gonna be a long road to 100%
