they already figuratively do that whenever someone with "authority" like excelsiorlef or DigitalOp comes into a thread and "drives the discussion" in a direction they want while the committee of public safety hanger-ons begin fanning out to hop on words or sentences in posts demanding to know what the poster really means, start clamoring about how people are showing their true colors, starts pulling out the post history receipts, while issuing verdicts in the more important trials by society, especially since the mods are allowing counterrevolutionaries to threaten the people and as such are derelict in their duties, leaving it to community to root out the traitors themselves

Ugh, the methodology of the moderators at Ree is so terrible. They act like moderators on Meet the Press, ending discussions when things have “run their course” and what not. I find this antiethical to the promise of the internet. Discussions should only be forcefully ended once things devolve beyond civility. Who cares if shit goes off topic? If a serious topic turns to jokes, we could probably use the laugh. It’s not like forums have serious memory considerations and a discussion that devolves into jokes is actually wasting any real resources. Right-wing lunatics like benji throw terms like “Nanny State” around in regard to real-life politics, but Ree actually has like 60 clones of Nanny from Muppet Babies watching like hawks.
All they want is people to amplify their opinions of basically anything.
It became obvious when the PC threads were all shitted on by the Nintendo brigade and the Steam people defending got banned.
It is no surprise, some of the worst NeoGAF posters became mods on REEE and if you have zero social/people skills you hire attention whores, narcissists and activists.
However, what is nice is that REEE will never be considered 'influential' like NeoGAF was. They're a board of fringe lunatics mostly. Which is subtly hinted at whenever some speculation post hits a mainstream gaming website.
They will remain in identity crisis forever because all their 'self guilt' originates from the fact that the board would not exist if not for sexual harassment.
