The problem with GAF wasn't just Lore, or the people who were mods


It was the user base as a whole. And when the user base moved and some of that user base became mods or Admins...shit followed. Y'all may have your issues with how people escape bans or what the fuck ever, I don't really care, but it has to be noticed by somebody, that the minorities on the site don't feel welcome. That the women, LGBT+, and racial minorities, do not feel as if they're input matters sometimes. And with every race thread, with every thread about how the women of the site, don't feel welcomed...it's coming out.

Lore being a fucking cunt wasn't the reason people left, cause we knew. We ignored it and knew. People just wanted to dip because he was power hungry


And so are those on ERA, power hungry to the point they will ignore blatant problems. To the point that people don't know if it's because the mods are shit or because admins are shit and tell the mods to be shit. I found it funny, how quickly the site devolved, because it really just proved that the problem was deeper than whatever the fuck people there thought it was.

And it's strange, because if it wasn't for the fact I get linked to some of these off the wall posts(the incel thread, the females thread, Zatt defending Gunn, etc) I wouldn't even have seen how fucking nut crazy these motherfuckers are. It's just like...God Damn, every week something happens and I'm like "I get why other sites make fun of you what the fuck"

the entire concept of the board will never work because the state of having 40,000 unbanned members means that you can't force the level of discourse that the more easily triggered high-post count people demand. the people calling for minority-focused offshoots in reality just want a place where topics can be posted and everybody else just goes into the thread and types +1.

If you need to ban half your community to keep your board readable your community is just shit.

Which is no surprise because the cool and smart people (including many of us) left NeoGAF ages ago.
So all they had left were various splintered communities that fought to control the entire board with their shenanigans.
Of course the Microsoft fans didn't really need NeoGAF as a method of communication because Microsoft already provides that themselves so they were the first to go.
Not to mention Microsoft fucked up the Halo fandom and GAF used to have a big Halo community.
Already before showergate happened NeoGAF lost most of their Sony community because the important members of that community were just working as Sony PR shills or had mod protection status.

So what remained to move over to Era properly by time showergate happened were the Nintendo and Anime fans and the various OT crowds of political activists and/or lunatics.
And lo and behold. The result of the GAF reset with the remainder of its community turned into a shit fest just months after the happy happy drum circle bullshit.   

Era however, at first did a pretty good job of courting old GAF members who were banned by the previous KGB mods. They even offered me a position as resettler and/or mod.
But they couldn't vent their criticism about the old moderation practices because dumbfucks like Besada were 'advisors' to the new mods. Learning them just how quickly you can run a community into the fucking ground.

Not to mention that half of the new mods only used GAF to become internet celebrities on Twitch, YouTube and Twitter. Which they're still active on. They only cared about promoting themselves and funneling members to their follower lists not about the community.
As the community is losing its value you hardly see them posting any 'insider' information on Ree anymore.

ResetEra is not a community. It's a bunch of GAF refugees set adrift. They're much better off creating their own smaller splinter communities (like the Bore and RetroGAF did).
This process had basically already started and ResetEra just accelerated it.

I'm old school, I see boards like these as 'bar talk' basically. One day you might talk about games or movies, the next you may drink too much and start ranting about politics.
If you're an asshole the crowd will let you know (and I'm awful at reading crowds btw) or the bouncer will throw your ass out.

I never take it too seriously. Which is precisely what is going wrong with most of those minority groups. Say, if you want to join 'everyone' you need to be able to take a joke or a criticism or two.

It is farcical to suggest women and minorities on ERA should feel unwelcome. The mods go out of their way to ban anyone that these communities may even suggest are racist or sexist. How many times has someone from BCT or from the LGBT side accuse someone of not being "slick" and that person is banned? Too many to count. The mods go out of their way to "guide" discussion in a particular direction when it deals with sensitive issues for ERA. It is impossible not to see that if you look at ERA's moderation objectively.

By "unsafe" they mean one or two posters don't immediately bend to their whims in a thread. They get triggered that someone dares have another take than their own, and that is what gets them upset. Let's ignore the fact that those who dare air their thoughts that are "outside the norm" get immediately dogpiled, accused as a racist/sexist/alt-right shitbag and are banned 95% of the time.

But that 5% that don't get banned really gets under their skin. They see that 5% as an army of racists and sexists populating ERA making their time on the site a living hell. It is ridiculous and shows how sensitive they are. They really cannot handle contrary opinions. They see it as an attack on their very being.

I don't know how you can fix a community where that sentiment is so strongly rooted in all interactions. It makes nearly every thread a potential powder keg of hurt feelings. How can any decent discussion be had?

It's fucking dumb. And you know what. No one asked those minorities or women what they 'want'. They simply listen to the most vocal 'voices' which pretend they speak for the community.
And you know I have a feeling that most aren't looking for worship of the black race, public white guilt demonstrations and digital castrations to please their mistresses.

I don't doubt there's anedoctal evidence, that some women or "minorities" have been saying "Fuck this place, I'm leaving" on a Discord or something, but that's just anedoctal (not invalid but partial). AFAIK none of that has even been offered, just the blunt statement that it is happening.

I'm not denying it could be true, but I don't see why I should accept it on face value. Especially since RE is objectively moderated with a very heavy hand and that can be backed by hard data of thousands of bans and warnings recorded in just the few months  of the forum existence which cannot be healthy for a community only 45k strong at best.

I've said before, Reset's issues is that it intentionally branded itself as a better GAF.  By doing that it created this incredibly impossible ideal to obtain.  They will never please everyone and there will always been new stages of wokeness to attain.

That feedback thread is key example. Moreover, the level of entitlement from the users.  They're providing a free platform to post in. I doubt that site is cheap to run with that traffic.  I know people hate EL and his pride got to him eventually, but he understood that mob rule wasn't feasible.  I don't think Reset understands that.

All the users who have issues with Reset should just create their own forum honestly. I have no idea why they want to stay if they feel unwelcome.  But there's is this strange mentality that ERA is their home.  It's Cerium's business lol.
