That's why I like to talk about PDPs history of continued mistakes. You'd think someone who triggered the adpocalypse by doing stupid nazi shit would stop for a minute and think about suggesting a channel like that, and a video that shows the death of Heather Heyer.
So assuming it was a mistake, what should he have done to make amends for that mistake?
Put out an apology video, explain how and why he made that mistake, and edit the original video containing the mistake to remove any implied endorsement of someone elses channel?
Because thats literally what he did.
I mean, you might not know that, because the mods were quick to edit that topics title into what it is now, but not so quick to update with a follow up.
But you and I both know that doing that is not enough for era consensus, that this will be brought up in every future topic about him ad infinitum, and realistically, there is nothing he can ever do that will ever not have him denounced on general principle immediately.
If this was the first instance I think his removal and apology would be perfectly acceptable and even commendable. Clearly there are a few people who won't ever forgive anyone of anything unless they make Marvel movies, but what PDP did once he apparently realized what the channel is about is what should be done... although being a bit more apologetic wouldn't hurt.
I just don't know if I can continue to give PDP the benefit of the doubt that he's not at least politically problematic (if not just a full blown racist). Which, listen, I really don't think that YouTube should remove everyone with a bad opinion or who secretly harbors racism. Like, half the office I work at probably have some kind of racially abhorrent views even if they would privately profess to not at all be racists... I just don't know if I'm comfortable with someone who ostensibly is supposed to be running an entertainment channel for young people (not children, but you know) making misstep after misstep.
Y'all joked about "GATEWAY RACISTS" earlier, but E;R got something like 40k subscribers from PDPs shout. Ben Shapiro is no doubt basking in the glory of occasionally being mentioned by or subbing for PDP. In that vast web of the internet, if you were to draw it out, you wouldn't draw a direct connection from "silly youtube video game player" to "Ben 'Facts Don't Care About Your Feelings' Shapiro"... and yet here we are. This is probably at least in part because the "left" on the internet threw them into the same bucket... so I guess we shouldn't be surprised that they bonded over being labeled big bad wolves... regardless I do think someone with the reach that Pewds has needs to be way more responsible but instead acts like he's just this scrappy upstart channel still.
