I assume he was one of the Trawniki men which makes this an interesting legal and moral case if it ever goes to court (odds are though that it won't). The Trawniki men were often prisoners of war who were held captive and were offered an out if they 'volunteered' to perform guard duties in camps like Sobibor and Treblinka.
There was a really prominent case regarding John Demjanjuk 7 or 8  years ago where a court IMO dropped the ball at recognizing the situation those men were in. They never got a definitive verdict at a higher court because Demjanjuk died and I assume we'll never get a verdict on this guy either.

I kind of don't understand why planes don't have parachutes on there in case of a total emergency. In this case for example the people on the airplane could just jump out and parachute safely while the plane crashes into the ocean somewhere.

Parachutes require lots of training to use by yourself.

If the plane I was on was going to crash I would take my chances. Also couldn't they make it so that the parachute automatically deploys once you reach a certain altitude?

I know its odd but why don't they keep spare tires on board for extreme emergencies? They do fold up into the plane so it should be feasible to change them but being that this is rare I guess they do think it is worth the risk.

Honestly that's not the feeling I got from RE general posting about the case : sure there's the occasional "What if a Russian Incel full on MAGA gator infiltrated the jury to hung it up !?" and "WHAT DOES IT TAKE SO LONG, IT'S OPEN AND SHUT AND I'D HAVE VOTED HIM GUILTY IN THE FIRST MINUTE OF DELIBERATIONS" but mostly it just read like a lot of frustration coming from a place of ignorance about how jury trials work and treating it like entertainment (none of which Era has a monopoly on these days).

Some would absolutely melt down if he was found not guilty of all (or almost all) counts though but it doesn't seem very likely to happen.
