Not by me, I loved it the first time I heard it.

The Living Daylights is the most underrated Bond movie and Dalton is the most underrated Bond. I think that used to go to OHMSS and Lazenby respectively but I think people have a higher opinion of them now than a few years ago. The Brosnan era was tragic in terms of potential, the Madonna scenes in Die Another Day will always be the low point in the franchise.

The Halle Berry scenes in Die Another Day are worse than any of the Madonna parts. Both the worst written and performed dialog in the entire series.

I don’t even remember the Halle Berry scenes, maybe because they were that bad. The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day are my least favorite Bond movies so it’s been a while since I’ve last seen them.

Scorpius (1987)

:yuck This dude fucking sucks. I have no idea how they let him have the keys to the kingdom for 15 fucking years. The plot of this one is a worldwide terrorist and arms dealer gets plastic surgery so he can form a comparative religions cult that uses suicide bombers in public places to causes chaos and destabilize governments and markets and elections. There's also a subplot about fucking credit cards with microchips that can be used to hack shit and it literally has no impact on anything other than a set up to draw Bond into the story. It's so fucking dull and dour and boring.

This dude sucks :camby

I like this bit of the Wiki synopsis:

Quote
At Scorpius' island, Bond meets up with Horner once again and the two actually marry at the behest of Scorpius. Knowing that the marriage is invalid, Bond agrees to go ahead with it thinking it would buy him time until he can escape. On the night the two decide to escape, Harriett is killed by a water moccasin.

Anulled, bitch.   :biden

To respond to stro :

Watch On Her Majesty's Secret Service last night for Christmas

OHMSS definitely suffers from the length and Lazenby is probably the less memorable thing about it. It's definitely enhanced from having some actual personal stakes. On paper it's probably as trite as "killing the best friend" and "Bond daddy and M-ommy issues" but this one is the only that really pulls it off, probably because Diana Rigg and the film being made by the original Dream Team of technicians with that 60's flair to the image.

I remember Draco being really suave and rather high in the ranking of the obligatory Bond ally.

Not sure I think Savalas is the best Blofeld but it was an interesting choice. Charles Gray is probably my favourite.

Killer Propellerheads track too :

In other news, Omega has the obligatory No Time to Die wristwatches out. The most boomer, most expensive merch piece but also a good colour scheme, especially on the NATO band.
The Aqua Terra they gave Nomi is not bad either.

Also like a lot the 70's font they used for the title.
I'm super :larry on Bovine Craig but after theaters closed so long I definitely want to see this on the silver screen.

Edit : You get no discount on the 38mm compared to the 41mm one, why so greedy Omega.

Not sure I’ve ever sat down and watched a full bond movie. I did play a lot of GoldenEye back in the day though.  Yesterday I saw them all free on YouTube and now, like a sign, this thread appears out of nowhere.

“You only live twice” is a good one? I’ll give it a watch and report back. Heck, if I like it there are like 20 more free ones on YouTube

With MGM shopping for a buyer (and them half-expecting it to be a streaming service) who knows what it'll mean for the Bond series on physical media. The series already had 4K restorations but were limited to online services only until the Craig series came out on Ultra HD Blu-Ray but there's been nothing since.

If Disney had bought them it would have meant no others would be seen in the format since they announced there would be no live-action UHD BD releases from them in the future.

I’m sure watching them sequentially is a journey worth taking. Feels like a commitment though and if there is a stretch of a few I’m not in to, my fickle attention risks bouncing entirely. Though, I’m about 30 min in to YOLT and so far it’s pretty good.

You Only Live Twice is one of the better films and I think a good choice for an introduction. As stro said, good balance of 60's eccentricity, playful exoticism (the problematic part), superior version of many of the tropes you'd expect, spectacular sequences.

Otherwise From Russia with Love but it's not the full Bond film formula yet.

That was pretty good. The beginning didn’t really grab me and there were a couple parts where I was a little lost in the middle but apart from that I enjoyed it. It almost felt like a Bruce Lee flick at times. The car chase was a pretty good one and the shot where Bond is clotheslining dudes as he is running across the rooftop at the docks is kinda epic. Connery did well, the girls were cute and the ending was decent. I’ll dig into another one sometime soon.

The World is Not Enough and On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

The first is more 'wink wink' 'nudge nudge' about it with a character named Christmas Jones and an ending on what seems to be New Years Eve.

So far my ranking is:

1. Casino Royale, Dr. No. I love them for different reasons. Idk which is my fav. Prob Dr. No.

2. The Spy Who Loved Me

3. From Russia With Love

4. GoldenEye

5. Thunderball

6. Spectre

7. Goldfinger

8. Live and Let Die

9. Moonraker

10. On Her Majesty's Secret Service

11. You Only Live Twice

12. Quantum of Solace

13. The Man With The Golden Gun

14. Diamonds Are Forever

That's as far as I've gotten. I have seen Octopussy, but only as a kid and i don't remember it. The ones i like i like a fair bit, they mix the right amount of action and camp. Much more love generally for Connery than Moore and the rest. I haven't rewatched Casino Royale for quite a long time so that's going by my historical rating as in I goddamn loved the movie, but I need to revisit it. Connery was really phoning it in by the time he got to You Only Live Twice. Surprised by how much I've enjoyed most of the films, my rating drops off p hard from Goldfinger down though and they start to become enjoyable artefacts/guilty pleasures vs. something I'd rec watching.

That's what I love about it. Low budget, much less focus on gadgets and the Bond formula. Fantastic settings, shots and character drama. Connery striding across rooms, being a suave mf'er investigating a mad but relatively benign villain in the scheme of things. A spy film vs an action movie. Thunderball feels like the turning point where the formula for future films is really laid down, and Bond is an action hero laden with gadgets constantly saving the world.

Bought ALL THE BOND FILMS because I am sick of not having them around, falling off of Netflix and Amazon in Japan, willy-nilly.

Started with Dr. No. Holy mackerel, this is pretty great. I mean, the asian woman isn't actually asian, but Bond is definitely doin' Bond Thangs.

Thunderball - What the shit? Is MOST of Austin Powers based on this? It's not even homage, it's like a straight rip for laughs. This movie is fun at first, but the underwater battle sequence LASTS FOREVER and isn't suspenseful. Also, speed ramped footage are a horrible and ineffective way to make things look like they're moving faster than they are. It's the uncanny valley of perception - we have too many cues to recognize that this is just sped-up.

I'll get through all of them eventually. I expect I will love many of them more than I remember, but I will still hate SPECTRE
