The references in this game...

Also, the classic mode is really good.
If you play as Ryu you get a bunch of Stamina battles.
With Zero Suit Samus standing in as Chun Li, a green Donkey Kong as Blanca etc.  :lol

For some reason it works really well.

This is one epic video game.

Yeah the amount of care put into Classic Mode is amazing. I've done about a dozen of the chars so far. Ryu's was hilarious. :lol Wonder if Ken's is similar.

Link and Kirby's end with a fricking one-off boss AI just for their modes. o_0

Great return to form for Classic Mode after the Wii U's weird ass version and the barebones 3DS trek.

I tried the pro controller. Had trouble jumping.
Busted out the GameCube controller

That's my Smash  :mynicca

Question, can other Switch games be played with the GameCube controller? Say, Super Mario Oddessey?  :rejoice
Not sure about Odyssey, but Mario Kart can be. I suppose you could play any game that didn't require an L button

Spent a bit of time playing around with my nephew yesterday and I am getting more into it, I think I am overthinking the game. I think I try and play this game like something it isn't versus what it is. At least to the point where I can control it.  :lol

I think changing the controls to be more 'platformer' style may help, they seemed to be ok after I switched it last night, but didn't test it out much. up=jump and moved the jump button to the bottom-most one. Also have switched to pro controller. I wish I could add movement to the d-pad.

The Blanka theme even works great with the stage they have it on. Very creative...there is a shitton of content and they still go out of their way to use every part of the buffalo.

I read last night that the bosses are from WoL mode. It still works though.

Tried a fight against Legendary (4 star) Peach for Palutena... shit man, this has gotten a lot harder than the older Smash games. For the Legendary spirits, could you get them via store or World of Light (I think I've gotten 1/4 of the map done)?

Agreed on the AI being insane sometimes.  Not sure what causes it, but some bouts I'd have when unlocking fighters were absolutely unfair. The AI was brutal and gave me little chance to do anything.  If I reset and faced them again it would be back to something more normal 1-2 tries later.

Also, if it matters to you bork, the refresh thing doesn't work for me when it comes to rematching old challengers.

Yeah, it only works if you lose the first time and immediately quit out.

I finally got everyone unlocked last night- they unlock in a set order and I when I was down to just Palutena left, I did a classic mode match and got her at the end.

How do you quit out when you lose? Power it off? Hit home button and close program? I need to start doing the cheat thing.

As soon as you lose (you can still be in the animation where your character is flying off-screen), just hit the home button and then X to close the game.  Go back in and repeat.

For the least amount of frustration and time-wasting, I'd probably just do classic battle on the easiest setting.

Went to a Smash fest today and had a good time. Lots of people to play with (ended up being about 20 total) and I got in a bunch of casual matches. Got beat a bunch but I came away with feeling okay about it because I was mainly just trying to get my bearings and see how I was handling the pro controller. Was mostly using Lucina though I did break out Daisy and Chrom(!) who is pretty fun too but that Up+B recovery is annoying af :lol

Also Izaw is starting to put Smash Ultimate tutorial videos, which imo are must watch if you are getting into the game. His Smash 4 content was some of the best and I'm sure this will continue

I still have a ton of trouble controlling this game, but damn am I not impressed at just how much content is there and how high quality it is.

There just seems to be a lot of effort put into literally
Every mode. Classic mode campaigns seem to have a lot of unique elements. There’s a ton of stuff to unlock in world of light.

It’s just a really well put together package. As someone who’s not a huge Smash fan, it really exceeded my expectations.

Yoshi is god tier.

Falcon is pretty good as well.

But if you have trouble with any new challengers, just pick Yoshi.  :doge

Any Yoshi tips? I haven't been able to do shit with him. I died multiple times with him on the default intensity setting on classic mode, and I barely beat his challenger. But I'm nowhere near what you'd call an advanced player.
His up A and down A are devastating.

His B moves are strong too but the egg rolling or down B ground pound can become suicidal very quickly.

As it stands now I think that this is better than Brawl (and Brawl was quite awesome) and I have to admit better than Melee.
Which is fucking weird considering Melee has the playing vidya with high school buddies bonus.

 :lawd

Smash Bros. game rankings
Ultimate > Melee > Brawl > 3DS > 64 > Wii U

As for current god tier Switch game rankings
BOTW > Ultimate > Oddessey

And honestly, Ultimate has a shot at beating BOTW as well.

It's easily the best Smash.

Largest roster with everyone back.

Largest list of stages.

800+ music tracks.

Better story mode than Brawl.

Better balance than Melee despite 74 characters.

Playable on a giant HDTV or portably anywhere at anytime.

The title doesn't lie.

Too early to tell on this one.

I'll take this over Melee any day, but I'm sure there will still be plenty of people out there proclaiming Melee as the best, no matter what.  It's very much the Super Turbo of Smash.

Brawl better than WiiU? Whaaa? I thought WiiU was a decent step up from the sluggish pace and crappy stage design of Brawl, even if its single player wasn't nearly as good as Subspace Emissary.

Apparently all the Hunters from Metroid Prime Hunters have a spirit except for Sylux.

Which leads us to the theory that Sylux is important in MP4 and a DLC character in Smash.
