If I can run games from 3-4+ years ago on any setting I'd pretty pretty happy TBH. The most demanding PC game I play is Civ Beyond Earth.

But if the capability is there, I'll use it.

Not too bad if it holds up. Trying to get 4K out of every game I play. Wouldn't mind resolution scaling if the games are too demanding as long as the new RTX AA tech is as good as it's hyped up to be.

So right now, the 1080 series is a better value for the games currently out.

DLSS may make a significant difference but that will take some time before it's implemented and like-for-like antialiasing performance benchmarks come out. It still remains to be seen how much of a performance hit ray tracing is but since it makes shadows darker, it probably won't appear in a competitive multiplayer game for several years.

I still can't understand why you have to pay 70% more than a 2 year old card to get 25% better performance. I get that 2080s have a lot more workstation capability than 1080s but why are gamers rushing to buy this?

2. Because we just got done with the crypto boom
3. Because the market has been stagnant with no high end competition

if you look st steam surveys, it’s a really small proportion they buy the 1080tis or even 1080s.

Usually it’s the 200-$250 GPUs that are highest on the charts.

I double checked out of curiosity and the first 4 or 5 gpus were all 1060s or worse. And it was like 30% or so of steam.

1070 was around 4%

And 1080 between 1-2%

If you added it all up, it looks like onboard graphics would probably be close to the 1070 number.

The 1080ti type products are probably more of just a flagship to sell in the entry level stuff (and probably have crazy markup as well).

Non-replaceable batteries in laptops are a trashidea. It’s trash on MacBooks too, but at least I can go to the Apple store for those and get it replaced

I kinda wanna start a new Witcher 3 playthrough. But I might do a new RE4 playthrough with the HD pack installed, tho it's not gonna look as awesome as newer shit even with the HD pack.

I played an hour or two of Deus Ex Mankind Divided and it's very gorgeous in 4K on ultra (duh) but it runs at sub 60fps on my 1080ti. Also, I just don't like the Deus Ex games that much. The setting is super fun but I just generally don't like stealth in games, and this implementation of it in particular I've never warmed to.

Reading the 2070 reviews, and imo Nvidia is crazy with this pricing.

A nominally $499 card, that will realistically cost $600 and basically is neck and neck with a GTX 1080, which was also a $600 card.

I’m not exactly sure how they flesh out the line from here... a 2060 that performs like a 1070 but retails for $400?

Got a 1070 on the cheap. Anyone play with G-Sync and if so what are your thoughts? Would love to just go AMD because i love the idea of free and g-sync, and the freesync implementation is quite nice (read: cheap and relatively open), but i couldnt find any deals on the RX Vega comparable to the cut rate 1070. V keen on a new 1440p 120-144hz monitor. Will be following AMDs new 7nm cards closely if the g-sync monitors stay so sparse and expensive.

Should be solid for 1440p though, right?

My bigger issue is I have two monitors 1 4K, 1 1080P.

For 1080P gaming, honestly, I’m still pretty satisfied with the 970. And I don’t think that 1440p will scale up well to 4K because it’s not a multiple of 4.

So maybe the answer is... just continue to wait.

yeah, it's p much designed for 1440p. it'll run a lot of stuff at 30fps at 4k. i think 4k is a trap for gaming mostly. i have a 4k and 1440p monitor at home. higher framerate >>>>> higher resolution. i can barely tell the difference in games above 1440p. i think it's because im not glued to my monitor, and textures and geometry in games is still not detailed enough for 1440 -> 2160 to make a noticeable difference, but incurs a ridiculous additional processing cost.
