Looks like some of the same people making Windjammers 2 are involved. The art style is probably going to turn off a lot of people since it looks like they went for the "HD sprite tracing" technique like SSF2T HD Remix used.

If it sucks, hey...at least Yuzo Koshiro is doing some music for SOR2 clone The Takeover.

I like the look. Hopefully it plays well. I was pretty hyped for Double Dragon IV but that game played like a cold turd.

Also I really hope there are more characters to play than Axel and Blaze and they're not all gonna be locked behind DLC. Something like the Syndicate Wars mod would be nice.

Even as a kid, I thought the SoR games got tedious about half way through. I haven't played a modern brawler so maybe it's changed, but back then there was no depth - just slam on the attack button for 2 hours. The soundtrack heavily carried these games through the moment to moment tedium, and I don't see any mention of Yuzo. I don't know how they're going to make this shit compelling in 2018/9.

I almost threw up in my mouth by how bad this looks.

I totally agree with Spieler1, we needed Streets of Rage Mania. Sega did it right with Sonic Mania, beautiful pixel art and nice remixed zones and music.

That's exactly what I want from a new SoR. But nooooo they had to go and change the artstyle to this disgusting clean look.

AT LEAST WE'LL HAVE THE REAL STREETS OF RAGE MANIA

Oh yeah and Fight'n Rage is pretty good Bork!
Mother Russia Bleeds is also pretty damn fun.

But none compare to SoRR V5.1

Fight'N Rage is so good that it could have been right at home during the golden age of BEUs in the late 80s/early 90s. It's a super quality game- can't believe it hasn't come out on consoles already.

The Taveover is another good beat-em-up, but it pales in comparison to FnR (everything modern does though, to be fair). It's also still in early access so it could get better. it uses mostly pre-rendered characters and has some 3D background elements. Plays a bit stiff but feels close-ish to Streets Of Rage in looks and playstyle, and again...they even got Yuzo to do some of the music.

LizardCube worked on the recent WonderBoy HD port-up and Guard_Crush made Streets Of Fury, which I never played.

Their work on Wonderboy was fantastic, so I'm not worried about the artstyle change. I never did feel SoR's calling card was the pixel art, anyway. What's worrying is the temptation for the developers to keep the gameplay close to its retro roots because SoR 1-3, although great representative timecapsules of gaming history, don't hold up and play well as a stand-alone titles today. I don't envy the devs trying to figure out how to put depth into these games without pissing off SoR fanboys and purists.

There's plenty of beat-em-ups that are straight old-school in their play style and progression...including the one that the dev doing the game design made.

I don’t like most retro throwback art, especially when they go back to the NES Era.

Like most NES games were sin ugly with flashing sprites and slowdown and like 32 colors. 16 bit era is acceptable however.

Sonic Mania nailed 32-bit 2D aka the best 2D aka what Sonic Saturn would have looked like. It got the additional animation quality and visual fidelity that 16 bit couldn't quite do (plus some of the Symphony of the Night-esque 3D objects as a neat touch). Streets of Rage 2 is still a visual masterpiece and getting just enough out of it like Sonic Mania would have been amazing. Also, yes there's too much pixel look since forever. But unlike Sonic Mania it's not like any of them look legit. Barely any game looks like it would've ever been on any classic console.

This looks great. I don’t give a fuck about Streets looking like a Genesis game. Its graphics were never a really big part of its appeal and even if I liked the graphics back then the graphics for Streets were never as iconic as Sonic’s so complaining it doesn’t look like a genesis game makes no sense to me.

As long as I get to play as my girl Blaze, crack heads, snap backs, and backward flip kicks I’m sold.

Surprised the ones complaining about the aesthetic have to more to say about the graphics than the overall tone (day time? Nah I want streets to have levels at night).

First few levels of SoR2 were at night, last few levels were set in the morning as you raid Mr. X's base.

The entire game is nighttime up until the elevator ride (Stage 7) where it changes to daytime

As for the earlier discussion. I love of the streets of rage series but I do find it a bit overrated as a beat em up.

Beat em ups I prefer to Streets of Rage.

My favorite beat em up all of time. I downloaded a 30 gig rom dump after nintendo got Emuparadise closed just to put it on my snes classic.

Basically, like anything in the arcade my taste lean Capcom and Taito although I love me some Sega.

I think there was a year where arcade beat em up and stuff like Musou were all I played. Definitely a top five genre for me.

Love Streets but...eh. It is overrated. Still up there tho.
