Were people surprised about the shitty ending?

At Season 6 now and well the begining is awful. People just straight up killing important political people with little on screen planning or smart maneuvering and consequence. It's not surprising, what happen in Season 8. It seems pretty clear in season 6 the writers just resort to shocking moments and haven't thought about how any of this should effect the world the story takes place in.

Not going into details or anything but they really did destroy this entire franchise with the last season.
After it was finished, within a day or two there was nothing 'Game of Thrones' left.
No new merchandise, no Blu-Ray 4K collection box, no nothing.

Some web game with lots of ads that slowly withered.

"Yeah so there was a long conversation, and then we get a long letter explaining why this was a bad idea... which just made us wanna kill that person that much more."

:mindblown

Not much more to say.

It really is amazing how that season killed the whole franchise. I can't help but cringe every time HBO announces a new spin off series. I'm like, "who the fuck is going to watch that shit?"

I can really see HBO taking a massive financial hit with their "all in" investment.

I dunno I still enjoyed it even if there were a few big missteps.

I didnt mind Arya killing the Night King but it would have been cooler if John had done that.

Maybe the NK could have won lmao that would have been cool af too

The last season killed the show, but tbh, it was really downhill long before then.
I think S4 was the last good one, after that you had the occasional good moments (almost all being CGi or big battle related) but a general shit show of story and character development.
S8 was just the culmination of that garbage.

I always felt like the big problem with GoT was that they killed off most of the good actors like Charles Dance within 3 seasons.
So they were left with the wooden plank Emillia Clarke, Kit Harrington doing a LOTR larp, Peter Dinklage phoning it and a bunch of useless extra's. All they could do to make it interesting was throw them into big battles with dragons.
To make matters worse most of the young actors were so busy with GoT promotions that they couldn't do anything else to improve their acting skills or build experience between the seasons.

Some questionable actors in the lead were a problem, but let's be honest, the writing (both general plotting as well as character development and dialog) went downhill fast once they ran out of book material.

Characters like Tyrion but also the Eunuch i forgot the name of, went from charming and cunning, to dumb idiots with sassy one liners.
By that point, having impressive CGi dragon battles had become the selling point.

Nobody wants more GoT. This prequel series is going to bomb and absolutely no one wants to see more fucking Jon Snow...

It probably has 'fans' that catched on later and enjoyed it because of the fantasy action.

GoT Season 1 is just an entirely different show than the final season.
Almost the complete reverse actually. They didn't even show battles in the earlier seasons.

Not opposed to a GoT sequel series. But a Jon Snow show  ???

At the height of the bargaining phase following the finale, there was some interest in an Arya Trek Voyager show. Jon is a dead end. Unless… somehow, the Night King has returned.

Sure, threads are cheap.

I just signed up for HBO Max today. I'm glad to see that there is something worth watching this month. I thought it was scheduled for next year.

Sounds good to me.

Obviously much of the dialogue and filler content will be made up, since the books just cover this stuff via historical recollection but...it sounds pretty faithful to George's ideas. And he says he's very hands on with this show. That's not really what I want to hear of course, given that it's just more evidence of how far away we are from TWOW but hey. I doubt the book comes out at this point.

There are going to be some big battles and big shock moments (blood and cheese...) but I wouldn't expect anything to match the Red Wedding or other major moments from Thrones. 17 dragons and crazy battles, plus some of major events, will be enough to ensure this is good. As long as the filler stuff isn't bad.
