If the goal of the movie is to sell toys, yes it is for kids.

No one is saying toddlers. Those movies are rated G and in this day and age theres like one movie rated G every year.

So Alien / Aliens is "for kids" too?   As someone else mentioned, Robocop?

And this idea that they exist to sell toys is kind of nonsense;  that's a small fraction of Disney's revenue.  They make way more money on the movies themselves (and TV / streaming syndication.)

Either way that doesn't magically make the content of the movie a kids movie;  again, see Robocop.

So what about the content of the film makes it a kids movie?

Youre really using examples from the mid 80s?

The average 12 year old was sucking dick in an alley for crack in 1987.

For example, Cauliflower Of Love's mom.

speaking ill of the dead. Real classy.

Wait.. are they really convinced Day's gone middling scores have to do with the SJW thing?

lol

Do they realize the vast majority of game reviewers have nothing to do with the woke crowd?

To be fair they don't don't seem mad about the review  scores and more about the stuff those journalists spout on Twitter

Is this shit going to be like Harry Potter where fans that read it in their early 20s still, to this day, enforce their opinion that it wasn't a book meant for children and deals with a lot of adult themes? You know, like any fucking movie meant for children if you look in to it enough?

I mean; what makes a movie "meant for children" then?

What about Ironman 1 for instance is "meant for children"?

It's basically a sci-fi movie.  I have no emotional attachment to these films, you can claim they are meant for toddlers and it doesn't effect my ego, but I'm having trouble understanding where you are coming from.   It's not inappropriate for kids but that's different.

I'm not sure it's useful or correct to draw a line between "kids" and "adult" films. I don't think it's needed to make the case that Marvel (or Star Wars, or etc...) are on average less mature, subtle or challenging. I honestly wouldn't care people lap that stuff up if some nerds weren't so defensive and vindictively narrow minded about it. EDIT : And seemingly embrace the suffocation of any other form of film expression.

What are you trying to argue here?

That mentally stable adults buy toys?

Or that corporations prey on adults with stunted growth to buy their products?

Does this look like something aimed at adults?

Just to clarify, there is nothing wrong with an adult watching a children's movie. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a children's movie. Many Disney animated films are classics for a reason.

What's wrong is when adults delude themselves into thinking that it's anything more than that.

The first half of Frozen is a good flick. Let It Go is a good song, performed by a very competent Broadway performer.

But if you start to argue that Let it Go is the pinnacle of adult culture, well, thats an issue. If you, as an adult, start to purchase Elsa pillows and Elsa napkins or whatever for your own use, that indicates that something is wrong.

Let's try another metric that is not toys.

Children tend to fixate on a movie and watch it over and over again. Anyone who has a child or has babysat a child knows that they will watch the same movie all day, every day. Some parents sitll have nightmares about Let it Go because of this.

Functional adults do not do this. For example, after watching Shindler's List, an adult will probably go at least a decade before rewatching the film. Shindler's List is not a children's movie. Neither is The Revenant, or Birdman, or Hotel Rwanda, or Black Hawk Down, or any other adult movie with adult themes intended to be watched by adults.

Comic book movies do well in the box office because of repeat viewings. According to Bloomberg:

"The run for “Endgame” could continue with repeat viewings, with almost three out of every 10 patrons planning to watch the movie again in a theater, according to a PostTrak survey."

This is the hallmark of a movie that is being watched by children and adults with children's minds.

Robocop is a kids movie.  :doge
I watched it as a kid, as did all my friends back in the day (and i did have the action figure).

Some of the corporate satire flew over my head, but the violence was just an absolute joy to witness.

Elle and Blackbook are Verhoeven movies aimed at adults, thank you very much.  8)

Robocop was R Rated (the version for cinemas, of course).
No respectable kid would've watched a movie that wasn't rated R.

Titanic made it's crazy haul from repeat viewings.  The idea that only kids do that is complete nonsense.

Titanic got huge repeat viewings from 12 year old girls in love with Leonardo Dicaprio. What middle school girl didn't have a poster of him on their wall?

Twilight also did well thanks to woman-children. Being an emotionally or mentally stunted adult is not limited to men.

Titanic and Fury Road are both kids movies.

We've expanded the definition into general "pop culture" in which any movie that provides escapism for adults is actually a children's movie.

Twilight is a fascinating topic;  movie theaters full of adult women cheering when the next tween guy shows up shirtless.

Imagine the tables turned on that one.. lol

Adult fans - check
Sex - check
Violence - check

Clearly Twilight is is a well-crafted piece of adult culture that should be celebrated by all adults and not looked down on by anyone, no siree.

I paused for a moment, and then made the mistake of meeting his gaze. His dark gold eyes confused me, and I answered without thinking.

‘My mother got remarried.’

Well this movie discussion has turned into ego stroking and is pretty boring.

I'm not going to lie, I became interested in Day's Gone basically because people were turning on it. "Oh it's not a 9, so it must be trash" when pretty much all the reviews were like "it's ok". People's critical analysis on things is at an all time low. Everything is either good or bad, with nothing in between.

Some with the woke shit. It's either problematic or well problematic. I doubt Days Gone has good writing. In fact what I've seen reminds me of a PS3 era game were good writing meant trying to sound natural and "realistic", but it comes as sounding try hard. Which is what that "Ride me" line sounds like, but jesus lets not crucify the game for dumb writing. And well, can't women character's talk about how they like sex too? Guess not if it's to a white male protagonist. And these woke people wonder why white males dislike them. Guess wonder is the wrong word as they are to preoccupied with hoping they die off or something. It's a shitty line in a game with writing trying to write out of it's league no doubt, but it's hardly something to cry about. Woke shit has gotten out of hand.

How about we not do that and instead address your fuck up more:  do you think there is no difference in content maturity between the films and that Avengers Assemble cartoon?

Or do you think maybe.. one is made for kids more than the other?

yeah, idiots.
