Weaponized polls. :wag

Edit: They closed the thread. :rofl

Maybe they should move it to the internal mod forum to discuss it.

83% of the people who answered feel conversation is stifled and Final Friendworker decided it was the good ole unproductivity that needed locking it up :dead

Is there any actual checking in this study to see of anyone who killed themselves had actually watched this show, or is it just a datapoint that the show came out?

No, just Holt-Winters forcasting and quasi-Poisson regression to show an associative increase around a specific time-frame.

If I was gonna kill myself, I'd explicitly point to my ban on restera as the cause, and have a catchy hashtag premade to get #resetinpeaceera trending

I seem to recall when that 13 reasons why show came out, there was a ton of press coverage about teen suicide being a shady source of entertainment, and much hand wringing about its hitherto-unknown-to-that-pundits existence, even though its supposedly based on some best selling YA book or something, so I think "hugely increased media coverage about suicide" is technically a result of that show being made, but not in the way era are portraying that.

Neil Gorsuch was sworn in as a Supreme Court judge in April 2017, the month with the 28.9% increase in suicides among boys aged 10-17.

Maybe true maybe bullshit but someone on Kiwi claims they had second or third hand accounts that the mods that left did so because the site is trending downwards and they realized it was never gonna be as big as GAF.

Grain of salt and all that.

The conclusion to the studies Abstract is intentionally misleading:

"The release of 13 Reasons Why was associated with a significant increase in monthly suicide rates among U.S. youth aged 10 to 17 years. Caution regarding the exposure of children and adolescents to the series is warranted."

The significant increase in monthly suicide rates among US youth aged 10-17 was driven by young boys. To leave that information out of your conclusion is fucking suspect.

People who think Walter White was supposed to be a hero are weird.

You’re right. Tony Montana > Walter White.

It is pretty hilarious how people became Walter White "fans";  I really think they read the show wrong.. like he's not actually a tough guy, the hat isn't supposed to be "cool" and he's supposed to be a sociopath.

They even completely expose his only redeeming quality; that he was allegedly "doing it for his family."

I'm at an elevated risk of care-posting here, but the reason people became Walter White "fans" is toxic masculinity.

I shall say no more to spare you all the bullshit that would surely follow.

I remember that Wired article, it was terrible.

It gets amazing again once it becomes a show about Hank Schrader.

I'm going to be honest, I stopped watching it at some point early in season 5 because it had long before that point become a comic book show instead of a character examination. I might finish it at some point though.

For some reason I have the post about a RE dude complaining about Disney not pushing Marvel merch and toys enough in stores and saying they put more focus on Disney Princess stuff and it just dawned on me that this is a grown man hanging out in the little girls toy section because all the Marvel stuff is in the boys action figure section at every store and it takes up more space than Star Wars/WWE/Transformers/whatever else.

Breaking Bad has been (an amazing) comic book show from frame 1 of episode 1, up until the last shot.
Which doesn't imply that it doesn't have deep characters, it just hides them under exaggerated plots and an hyper charged, stylized world.. but i mean it starts with him holding a gun to the camera like a Tarantino movie.

which wouldnt be a problem if it was some hot + happening 'underground bad boy of videogames' club getting all the scoops from all the insiders and breaking all the news first.

I consider myself polyamorous about a year ago as well and that came as a bit of a shock to her at first. It was a learning process for her but she loved me for who I am and accepts that side of me now. And I'll always love her for that. She's an open-minded person in general too so that helped a lot. I actually haven't had any luck when it comes to having sex with another girl besides my girlfriend but at least where we both currently stand, it's an option for me should the opportunity arises.

As this situation develops, please remember to keep this discussion civil. Maduro is an actual dictator who has regularly employed violence against his own people; emotions are therefore bound to be running high.
