They must be jealous of Amir0x then. He gets the chance to punch Nazis and white supremacists from the prison courtyard every day.

Sonya could have been played by any number of capable actresses, but instead, NetherRealm stunt casted someone whose very presence makes many of my friends feel completely uncomfortable playing Mortal Kombat 11.

Uhhhhhh... because people have a ton of time, achievements, DLC and friendslists invested on one platform, and thats all going to be sandboxed out and push you to do what is inevitably going to be a one-way-account-transfer to another platform or be stuck with a version of the game that you don't get updates beyond patches for, and that is inevitably going to be EOLed 12-24 months after its removed.

The RL news are a non-issue. Apparently Pysonix and Epic Games were already close in the past. I understand the move.

If you're going to keep the larger part of the userbase still on steam, I wonder what's even the point to stop selling RL on steam.

They're obviously not going to keep the majority of the userbase on steam. They'll pull an "account transfer" ASAP (which will be as soon as the EGS has built the featureset that steam has and it currently doesn't, eg for achievements / matchmaking / frinedslists / notifications / anti-cheat etc)

League of Legends was available for sale on steam once upon a time. Ain't nobody launching LoL through steam as a native steam game in new Date().getFullYear()

On a broad level for the exact same reason I'm not exactly thrilled at how I have a music library split across itunes, amazon and google play.

On a more relevant level, I don't see a company spending market distorting amounts of money to secure exclusivity deals in the short term not planning to hardcore fuck people to get that money back and then some in the longterm.

User Banned (1 Week): Misrepresenting staff post with multiple sources, ignoring discussion guidelines surrounding transphobic rhetoric
I agree that if a transgender has the same levels of testosterone as their other female athletes, then there should be no problem in them competing in the same league.

With that said, it is not in accordance with proper academic principles to rely on one study alone, especially when it comes from a journal that may be biased in their approach and mythology. That is like stating, that the Institute for international Finance is a reliable source when discussing the effects of a tightening in capital regulations.

Musics different; you’re constantly switching between songs. The average song is like 3 minutes. To have to go between different apps that rapidly is annoying.

I probably spend 1-2 hours on a game session. The amount of work to switch to a different window is an annoyance but hardly something to get upset over.

And the EGS is a good thing for the market. More competition is a good thing for everyone but Valve. I don’t see how anyone could argue Epic’s going to fuck everyone over in the long term while also being okay with Steam having no competition. It’s stupid to be fine with one and not the other.

nah, I'm not gonna carepost, theres a ton of posts that explain the shit out of this.
store.steampowered.com has a ton of competition, in the way that matters to a consumer; they're all competing with each other, and you can shop around on price.
steam as a useful PC frontend has little meaningful competition, but thats fine, because you don't actually want 10 different frineds lists, 10 different achievement trackers, 10 different patching utilities, 10 different anti-cheats, 10 different mod managers, etc etc etc.

I did, but IIRC its kind of a ballache in that its an all-or-nothing kind of deall, you can't incrementally add new stuff.

Sort of moot, because its just get an unlimited music subscription and eat-what-you-want instead of buying albums piecemeal nowadays anyway :idont

from that thread:
What is a notch? Nothing about Minecraft "screams" an individual creator.

Minecraft is one of like, only a fucking handful of games you literally can point to as a genuine work of an auteur pretty much start to finish.
Its like... MC, VVVVVV, Thomas Was Alone, Cave Story, Touhou... that's where I start struggling to think of additional examples

Reading the barely-tangentially-relevant OFFICIAL STAFF POST copypasta in the Epic buys Psyonix and Caster Semenya threads, I'm legitimately wondering if era mods are that stupid, or that lazy that they'll just CTRL+V some other mods posts into a thread that kinda sorta seems similar to a previous thread

:badass

I got banned and got personal attacked for thinking PDP is better person than notch.

Why am I not allowed to have that opinion

The middle ages called and wanted their forum back.

The interesting thing about this (as well as that whole thread) is the assumption that "influencers" or big industry people in general will ever truly condemn Pewdiepie.  Notch really isn't comparable because he absolutely has been largely blacklisted by even the so-called centrists that Era hates.  I won't say he's at rock bottom because there's still people that will passively cape for him and semi-influential people that don't really care either way, but he also flat out doesn't do anything, so you won't really see people mention him in anything relevant.

Pewdiepie is different.  He's someone even relatively progressive people will go to bat for, and not due to fear of backlash from his massive fanbase, but because they genuinely like him and/or see him as an inspiration in the "influencer" space, with maybe a few just trying to suck up to him in hopes of a collab down the line.  These same people (or at least people they're connected with) have threads on Era, including Dunkey, Vinesauce, Kinda Funny, Easy Allies, Giant Bomb, Super Best Friends (well not anymore I guess), Game Grumps, ProZD, Jim Sterling, and even some of those non-gaming leftist youtubers.  Hell, there's even a friggin Kizuna Ai avatar in that thread shitting on PDP despite her wanting to collab with him.  And yeah, the whole concept of influencers in general is still a pretty dumb thing to people in our age group, but they're absolutely people the industry listens to, and far more than small gaming forums at that.

Era seems to think they're much more influential than they really are and that anyone worth a damn in the industry is ideologically aligned with them and their burning desire to cancel people over the mildest transgression.  At this point, it's pretty much the opposite.  They've ruffled more than a few feathers in the industry with their purity tests and need to over correct every time someone steps even a little bit out of line.  Certain people were NOT happy over their attempt to cancel Geoff Keighley over his friendship with Boogie.  And with each new controversy like this, they further cement themselves as pariahs of the industry with a constantly dwindling level of influence.  The funniest thing is the idea that ANY of these Youtubers or Twitch streamers of any worth see Era as anything more than a malicious curiosity at best, even the ones that have accounts there.

They can probably still rely on pockets of journalism to always have their back, but they aren't reaching even 10% of Gaf's heights in terms of influence.

Honest question: why do people care so much where their games come from? It’s like 30 seconds of work to switch launchers.

Every account I own is yet another weakness in security, another storefront that will inevitably have all its data breached and put personal information all over the internet, possibly shenanigans with credit use/fraud if I let it remember my card

Every company has different policies and different likelihood of actually preserving my library long-term, as one example I had a bunch of games in my Telltale account and then the company shut down and there is literally no one working there to maintain the website and fix the errors that now prevent everyone from getting access to the games they own

I have like 2 games in some long-forgotten Microsoft account several complete rebrandings ago, one is Age of Empires 3, I have no idea where to go to log into this or what my password is, or if it even still exists somewhere

Ditto for EA, I have some games trapped in their ecosystem, I don't remember what they are and you could say oh out of sight out of mind, except I don't remember all my Steam games either and they're easily look-uppable and accessible everywhere

And also fuck Tencent and whatever small involvement they might have in Epic, I don't trust that shit to stay benign in perpetuity

That's all just based in personal reasoning why multiple storefronts suck, outside of that there's the garbage where devs were all set to launch on Steam and advertising there and basically selling an entire audience there and jumped ship, which is pretty fucked

Man it's stuff like this video that makes me lose faith in humanity. Dude makes a bunch of obviously fake overreaction videos on YouTube and suddenly he has a fanbase like this that cheers him on while he assaults police officers and all they do is throw "LMAOOOOOO" captions over their videos of it. These people legitimately sicken me.

"Staff post with multiple sources."

Really?

They found more than the one limited and potentially biased article?

Three different people posted the article, so that's three sources right there.

EightBitNate is right. Steam has a complete monopoly which is why all of the biggest PC games of the past 15 years have been Steam games. World of Warcraft, League of Legends, Minecraft, Fortnite, Roblox. All of them really
