Also wtf how else would you squat if you go that low? The people in that thread acting like it's weird or hard when it's literally the only way your body can do it is bizarre.

They can't. There is no defense for perpetuating the toxic masculinity of Gamers that is the root cause of every problem our world faces.

I play and love most of Tom Clancy's Ubisoft games, both the old Red Storm ones, as well as the new looter-shooter ones.

People who always have time to throw in a complaint about progressives or the left or "outrage culture". Then they refuse to follow their line of thought to the end because they are afraid of stating what they really think. Pop up in a thread, criticize progressives or advocacy, and dip out until the next one. The thing is, they lose either way, on a long enough timeline they always show their true colors and if they don't they are posting as people scared to say how they feel, it can just be frustrating in the meantime when they know how to ride the line.

Complaining about yikes and oof is silly to me too, I feel like it mostly comes from people on the end of a lotta yikes and oofs haha, it probably would not be annoying to you if that was not the case.

Overall though, Era is a better space than most online.

My largest pet peeve overall is the extreme insecurity of some members and faux communist messages I've received from people who object to me being a manager and occasionally offering career advice in certain threads. I can handle constructive criticism and dissenting opinions but most of the time I feel like I'm being made out to be someone who keeps the little guy down or something. It's just weird and always makes me feel personally attacked.

Stop making threads based on articles created to manufacture outrage. Those FFVII Remake threads about Barret and Aerith annoy me because it's a thread that consists of a circlejerk between people who think the cherrypicked Tweets and whatnot are representative of a bigger group than they actually are.
This is actually dangerous and less a pet peeve.

Because there’s people out there who hate-watch ResetEra and by boosting those inconsequential tweets, you could essentially fuel the rhetoric that “SJW’s are complaining about thing” in certain circles.

Or if any gaming publication picks up the story for whatever reason (super irresponsible, and has actually happened before).

And with their twitter handle exposed, they’re going to receive hate. Or worse.

It's about how like, PR, is like, totally, like, gaslighting us, by like, focusing on the other parts of the games instead of, like, literally, the, like dualities of man and art.

Also, that interview is more interesting for the parts he sliced out, especially how Polygon sets it up and etc., italics are what FF quotes:
Quote
Meanwhile, in the real world, some Americans are concerned that the current administration is becoming tyrannical in its own right. Some would say that the land of the free may even be drifting toward fascism. These were the thoughts on my mind when I sat down with Terry Spier, creative director for North Carolina-based Red Storm Entertainment which, along with Massive Entertainment, is helping bring The Division 2 to life.

The trailers and the gameplay reveals have, so far, told me that this is a game about a near-future Civil War. But it’s not a game about politics, Spier insisted. It’s a game about saving lives and bringing society back from the brink of destruction.

Charlie Hall (Polygon): It’s a very charged political climate in this country.

Terri Spier (Ubisoft): It certainly is.

Charlie Hall (Polygon): What does it mean for you personally to be making a game about the next civil war?

Terri Spier (Ubisoft): There’s a couple reasons why we chose DC, right? And I think it’s important to say the first reason was how do you top Manhattan? Manhattan was such an iconic city, is such an iconic city.

Charlie Hall (Polygon): Starting out right under DUMBO, right?

Terri Spier (Ubisoft): You know, we want to one up that. It’s the iconic seat of power, you heard [our team] say that. Everybody knows what DC is. Everyone’s seen the monuments, the Lincoln Memorial, you know, the Capital Building, all that stuff. So that was the driving choice behind why we picked DC. The message for The Division 2 is one more of unity, right? I think that’s what we’re going to drive home. And what you’ll see as you get more and more information about the game, is about the Division sort of being that last line of defense against the ultimate collapse. So the Division agents are going in and they’re unifying and they’re helping and they’re rebuilding. And that’s what I love about the Division.

Charlie Hall (Polygon): As it was described, they’re actually fighting against a corrupt government.

Terri Spier (Ubisoft): Rebuilding and helping the civilians move forward and move on. So, there’s tons of narrative bits in there.

Charlie Hall (Polygon): But you’ve got that red searchlight coming out of the Capital dome. The leadership has been decapitated. So the Division is the last remnants of the old government trying to push out the sitting government?

Terri Spier (Ubisoft): That’s an amazing assumption that you’re making, one that I’m not going to confirm or deny. I’m just going to say that you are a veteran agent who was activated before the time of The Division 2 and you got the SOS call. OK, you’re war torn. You’re tired. You’ve been doing Division stuff elsewhere and you arrive in DC to find what it is that you’re going to find. And you’re going to rebuild and make sure that DC does not collapse, SHaDe [Strategic Homeland Division] does not collapse and that the nation does not collapse. And so should it be clear, we’re definitely not making any political statements. Right? This is still a work of fiction, right? Our job —

Charlie Hall (Polygon): Wait a minute. It’s in DC.

Terri Spier (Ubisoft): Yes.

Charlie Hall (Polygon): Your central character here on the key art has an American flag bandana tied to their backpack.

Terri Spier (Ubisoft): That’s correct.

Charlie Hall (Polygon): This is not a political statement?

Terri Spier (Ubisoft): Absolutely not.

Charlie Hall (Polygon): Taking up arms against a corrupt government is not a political statement?

Terri Spier (Ubisoft): No. It’s not a political statement. No, we are absolutely here to explore a new city.

...

Charlie Hall (Polygon): What does that mean to you personally, you who live in and work in and lead your life in North Carolina, making a game about the next revolution? About civil war?
It's in D.C. (LOCATION OF POLITICS), there's an American flag (ALT-RIGHT DOG-WHISTLE), how can you claim such lies you Brexiter piece of shit? You already gaslit us once by not letting us kill Trump supporters in Far Cry 5, why should we believe your flat earther lies again?!?

lol the polygon comments are great too:
Quote
thedoorsdk
Agreed. The first Division was probably the most fascistic game I’ve ever played, so yeah…I’m not buying it.

axemtitanium
Coming from the publisher that put out Far Cry 5, are you surprised?

Brill
The Division makes a political statement- it embraces racist fascism wholeheartedly. Too many game journalists were willing to overlook that. Letting them repeat the lie that they’re not making a political statement isn’t actually much better.

adrianovaroli
A game with that kind of content at this particular moment in history is a political statement whether they want it or not. They could have owned it. Maybe say it’s futurism. Extrapolation. But no. "Have a mindless shoter that has a topical veneer. People just want to shoot stuff that looks pretty."

ArcturusOne
If they didn’t want to make a political statement, they should have picked different symbolism and a more fictionalized location instead of leaning in really hard on the authenticity of DC.

Also, FarCry 5 got rightly dragged for being toothless and refusing to make even the most basic of statements, compounded immensely by the goddamn endings. Like…. no one is buying the apoliticism of this. You’re either a coward or you’re refusing to cop to what your statements are.

And given some of the shit in the first Division game, it’s deffo the latter.

dsuber3
Ubisoft either needs to pick a damn side or not use this imagery in the first place.

Quote
adrianovaroli
If you mindlessly play shooters and become desensitized to the evils in the real world, and then go on to have an empty life, I’d say you’re part of the problem. Otherwise, maybe not.

Quote
Atron45
I’m not sure where this outrage was during the first Division. In fact, it was one of Charlie’s most anticipated game of 2015. Gies made not mention of the story being too facist or too problematic in his review. A quick look at some of the commenters in this thread, it appears as though they somewhat enjoyed the game too. Most of the polygon staff who wrote about The Division, including Charlie, understood that this was based on the "what if" scenario of "Directive 51."

This whole interview and article is just weird to me. Charlie was stoked for the Division and played quite a bit of it. So why come at Spier with that line of questioning? Why isn’t Charlie approaching this game with the same enthusiasm? We could already speculate on where the next story was going to take us, so why is Charlie acting like they purposely picked DC, as if to dance around the current political climate?

Ultimately, I’m not sure Charlie even knows what he wants. What could possibly be the expectation of picking a side? The final boss battle is Trump himself and you get to shoot him? I just don’t know what Charlie could think the outcome would be.

It's a little hard to find an area to respond to directly because of how thorough you've been, and I don't see anything that I really substantially disagree with. Additionally, I'm rather apathetic to Ubisoft in particular for whatever reason and I can't really cling to them as a specific example, although I think I've aware enough of their products and how they're marketed to understand your points. But it invokes a few tangential thoughts I've had over the years.
