I don’t see how burning down the building before you liberate refugees is helpful.

You hold the guards at gunpoint, liberate the refugees. Secure the guards, then firebomb the facility.
Quote
And here is why people don't want to do these things alone. You need to have more people for such a thing to work. Incendiaries aren't a good idea for this, either, as it's pretty fucking hard to control a burn like that and you'll hurt who you're liberating more.

Oh yeah, liberated some Ala Mhigans myself just last expac. Totally agree.

I mean, that's how it works in Just Cause.

His argument is also bullshit considering that even in Turkey people have turned on refugees despite sharing skin color and faith. When there's a sudden huge influx of foreigners tensions are going to be high, that's how it is.

The Turkish state turning on "outsiders" probably isn't as exculpatory as you think it is.

I'd say it makes an argument for the issues not being all race based.

His clarification has no substance; "if you don't like it then leave," is simply a way to deflect any criticism of the USA and of himself, and barely passes as a grade-school level argument.

Good update on the issue though, let me help you add further commentary:

Within this "clarification" he goes on to make further vile bigoted statements without any proof. Par for the course.

Strong work on the thread title, by the way.

Quote from: EviLore
All of this is already in the OP. What are your complaints about the thread title? Lack of Vox-style editorialization?

Quote
Added the "wonderful Al-Qaeda" bit to make sure you didn't miss that part of the conference and help you out; it can be hard to create a controversial thread with proper fidelity of the information. I see you edited that into the OP after I had begun to draft my post.

And no, the title is truly unbiased reporting that accurately captures the situation. Good work.

Clearly this guy didn't receive the message EviLore sent to Transhuman.

The article, while still shitty, isn't nearly as bad as that headline. I wonder if FOX has a team dedicated to that sole purpose? I suppose it makes sense right? They probably have the metrics to see how much more influential headlines are than actual content. So they can put in a half hearted effort and journalism and then slap a crazy fucking headline on it that completely rewrites the story and that headline becomes fact where the story is just buried.... I don't know why I've never thought out this process before. It's so obvious

They have the right, and there are protections for that process under US law, but for various reasons, it's actually pretty hard to get the ball rolling on that right now in most professions. Growing up, my dad was in the Teamsters and IBEW (international brotherhood of electrical workers) at different times. Even back then (80s/90s) companies were finding creative ways of skirting laws protecting unions, like only signing a contract with full time employees (defined as 40+ hours a week) then replacing 25-50% of the staff with people who conveniently only were allowed to clock 38 hours a week. Shit like that. In the old days, the big unions like the Teamsters used to try to recruit the employees of businesses not under their umbrella, but it doesn't seem like as much of that is happening anymore. That means people have to organize themselves without much outside assistance, and the short story of how that's going is that it's not.

Yes, but many states are 'right-to-work' states, which means that you don't have to join the union to work in a given field. And most states are 'at-will' states which means that an employer doesn't need a reason to lay off workers, and there was a recent Supreme Court decision of Janus v. AFSCME that forbid the automatic gathering of union fees for public section unions.

Due to a number of factors (corporation opposition, conservative politicians opposition, globalization, etc.) union participation have steadily declined for decades.

Also, there's a lot of bullshit in how people in potentially unionizable (pretty sure I made that word up) services are hired. Take something like this:

https://www.cintas.com/facilityservices/restroomcleaning.aspx

You hire a company outside your own organization to come in and clean up your bathrooms. Those guys send over an "employee" who is actually designated as an independent contractor and therefore not on their official payroll. The guy who cleans the bathroom doesn't work for your company AND he doesn't work for Cintas. How's a guy like that going to unionize? Absolutely not possible. Now extrapolate this to your entire facility maintenance. That's basically already happened in a lot of places. The IRS will only let this go so far. You can't make literally any position in your company you want an "independent contractor" but the rules as written are hugely stretched by nearly everyone and outright broken in many cases with no consequences.

I'll restate, it's not exactly shocking that refugees would find themselves unwanted in a state where indigenous ethnic minorities are also unwanted.

To add to this, the IRS has been deliberately underfunded for so long that the deliberate miscategorization of employees is practically speaking an unenforceable violation that might only come up in an audit, which also happens to be subject to the same deliberate underfunding.

Honestly, it's very brave for the wealthy Patrick Klepek to decide against spending his day playing Mario Maker 2 and instead deciding to do nothing.

He is wealthy? Trust Fund?

you have to be independently wealthy to be able to do what klepek does with his life

White male fragility in video form. Why are they still allowed on here?

That forum has simply become irredeemably insane. But then again, why am I still acting surprised, after this shit cult of theirs didn't hold back bullying some dude on suicide watch because of his supposed hate crime known as... being a little vulgar from time to time.

the video (captain mahvel review) is btw super reasonable about disney marketing and the main actress talking dumb shit, but you can't have that - we must protect our deep puritanical values and corporate cock sucking!

Damn, he probably lost a cool $3 by not streaming Mario Maker this afternoon.

ERA's obsession with getting woke approved consensus on every menial topic--a damn nerdy YT channel with some neckbeards--is borderline obsessive.  It's always a garbage "Resettler" leading the way.

The occasional unfortunate take but mostly harmless. This isn't Brain Force Plusing or white nationalism disguised as movie reviews.
No it's not. How do you think sexist and racist ideas spread?

Death by a thousand cuts. It shouldn't be spread no matter how minor.

Kill the people who jokingly disagree with me on children's movies (that they mostly like anyway)? This sounds like a very normal person.

I posted receipts (in the OP). Where are yours? I'll wait. Show me just how progressive they are.
Did you just admit to being an alt account? Whoops.
