German "bread".

Either as dense as a fucking brick, or something like 90% sunflower/pumpkin seeds, 10% bread.

There's a reason Germany's reputation when it comes to food is just barely better than the UK's  :jawalrus

Stop eating snails and frogs then we talk :hmph

conchas are kinda like trash melonpan

In general, lots of Mexican bakeries are dry as fuck and the packaged versions at the supermarket taste like straight ash. Bimbo is probably the worst thing to happen to Hispanic stores.

Maybe it tastes different in other areas, but Cuban/Chinese bakeries are far more consistently amazing.

I really want melonpan nowwwww. :drool

That's the thing, the Mexican bakeries in my area are all pretty trash.  There's a lot of same-flavor going on, which is fine for a small & cheap shop, but the dryness is really prevalent with the local community. I've never had a good concha, which is a shame.

Bimbo, which I'm sure they sell in Mexico, does straight up taste ashy though. As a kid I would always try them out at the local 7-Eleven and I wondered how they kept growing in prevalence. I refuse to believe people actually enjoy them, even if you like a dry ashiness in your mouth ( :-X ) they're devoid of flavor.

Oh yeah, Bimbo is crap for the most part.

One of my life goals is to travel to Britain and then take a side trip to Ireland and get a Guinness on tap. :drool

I went back to my hotel room and dropped off the package, then went out on the town, coming down some but still in mild euphoria. I tried an Irish pub and had a Guinness. An American walked in and proclaimed he was half-Irish and asked for some sort of Irish beer; he didn’t know what any of it was. I told him Guinness was good, as I sipped my pint and laughed, and then mentioned to the Irish bartender that I had just been in Ireland and to the Storehouse learning how to pour. He was pleased.

I want to see an EPL game in person!  :P

I still take that over having a 70mph speed limit though :sabu
plus side of living in a state that's 75% empty is the highway speed limit outside of cities is like 85 (which means everyone goes 95)

Perfect pizza?  From Mexicans?    I thought we established that you had to be the right ethnicity to make the appropriate food the right way.

I'm sorry, Mexicans don't have what it takes to sprinkle cheese on top of dough in precisely the right amounts.   Trust me. You need to eat one to learn how to make it right.

The story is a few months back my sister asked if I want simba mattress because she was getting a new one, I said no because I thought I would be getting a mattress from somewhere else.

Well fast foward to now and it turns out maybe I could use my sisters simba mattress, so I txt her if she still has it.

She says she got rid of it.

But this is the line from her that kinda irks me.

"I did offer it to u at the time! 🤷‍♀️"

I mean I know she offered it to me, why she expressing annoyance at me? (using the shrugging emoji).

I didn't say anything, and I'm worried if I do say something I will cause an argument or something, but she said it, and I don't think it was a nice thing to say.

It's not my sentence, it's hers. I have no reason to make my own sentence, and she was casually talking to her chat, so there's no reason for her to be grammatically correct. She doesn't say enough syllables for it to be "in the grocery", either.

Contextually, she let her inner monologue slip out, and then explained exactly what she meant by "ethnic" - about what is and isn't "white people food" (again, her words, not mine) and where it may be sold. The context only confirms it.

But that's all I have on this. I have no interest in this being downplayed (this isn't merely someone being "dumb") or feeling gaslit (my speakers are bad now???) any longer.

No. I said I'm FEELING gaslit. I didn't say that was people's motive, nor did I make assumptions about other members. One member was curious about what people heard and if they reviewed or transcribed what was said. So I obliged.

Plus, there's no narrative. I never said anything like "angelic" or "evil". The context of "what is ethnic" and using the phrase "white people food" (which is not what ethnic means, even in the supermarket) is certainly enough to raise eyebrows.

I had an acquaintance in college always refer to Chinese food as g--- food, without hesitation or reflection. People say these types of things, even if they may somehow be unaware of the malice. So this is not out of nowhere, or a narrative I have to craft. I've been quite straightforward where I see this, and even where I see it occurring in American society today.

But now I'm reading assumptions made about me and what I believe. This conversation requires none of that, as this thread is not about me. And if you think you are correct about what you hear, then certainly none of your reasoning requires any assumptions about me.
