This thread seems to have devolved into metacommentary on whether users should forgive Silverman for her blackface sketch or not. As such, the thread is locked.

haha, cowards.  If you were to cancel Silverman for her blackface you would have to cancel everyone.  Always sunny, The State, Kids in the Hall, Mr. Show, 30 Rock, MCU, everyone on SNL.  The amount of comedians who did blackface in the 90's and 2000's, is astounding.  But a women jew does it and suddenly it's and issue.

She doesn't even support Israel.

But the point is if you cancelled everyone who did blackface in the past 20 years you would "optics" as a uptight loser.  And nobody on Era is like that so they have to pretend that all the other times blackface is done it's "funny," it's just this one time it's problematic even if they haven't seen it.

Wait, what sunny did wasn't blackface. Unless you're referring to a different instance than the episode I'm thinking of.

Imagine the morals and balls you must lack to act upset about blackface only when it's from a person you don't like and say it's fine otherwise.

The most disgusting act one can commit is fine as long as it's done by one of your ingroup.  That is fucking low.  Even for a Era person.

The most important part is what movie was it? As far as i'm concerned whatever person or studio made that decision should have to stand by it publicly.

Is it ever? The entire 90s/00s being filled with media that all said "Both sides have a point/are wrong!" is partly the reason why we are in the current political climate.

Watching the trailer after reading the script, this shit is hilarious. Its obviously a hokey B movie, and it has a lot of my favorite actors, but damn this is just not the political climate to be releasing some both sides bullshit like this.

Also if I'm following it all correctly.

Traditional videogame narratives : Gateway Gamergate power fantasies feeding toxic white cis males into precious snowflakes with a superiority complex and ultimately mass shooters.

Moral ambiguity in fiction : Helped Trump get elected fostering white cis males into ultimately becoming mass shooters.

Satire : Might be misunderstood, taken the wrong way and be inspirational to white cis males into ultimately becoming mass shooters.

How do you stop a bad man with a knife

Video of a young man in the Sydney CBD who had run amok with a knife and stabbed at least one woman.
The woman has been taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.

He seems to be mentally ill and is subdued by bystanders armed with various items including a chair and a milk crate. They chased him down the street and warned other people to get out of the way until they had him on the ground.

OK. I have long held that it is incredibly naive to assert that video games don't contribute to the violence we are seeing, these days, all around us. I don't care what the "experts" conclude in their ivory tower institutions. The Video Game Industry has billions of dollars, literally, to hire all of the experts they need to reach conclusions that are favorable to their industry.

As an experiment, I downloaded two violent video games for my cell phone, within the last hour. Both feature a gunman who shoots the bad guys, including ones labeled "Boss." In one game, very realistically animated, you are a sniper who kills men walking down the street, a guy who snatched a backpack from a student, an enemy sniper who is positioned at the top of a building, etc. You use your scope to line up your shot, fire, see the bullet close in on your human target, see the impact, see the blood, see the target go down. "Great job! You have neutralized your target!"

These games disgusted me to the point where I felt like my phone was rotting away. I couldn't wait to delete both of them!

Come on, folks! See these games for what they are: If kids and young adults are, daily, eagerly "killing" hundreds of bad guys, and others, during depictions of graphic violence, in the quiet of their living rooms and/or sitting in class or on the bus, they are being desensitized to violence, no two ways about it!

These games should be banned, for everyone! It won't happen, because of those aforementioned billions of dollars, but we should all do our part to keep them out of the hands of those we care about.

I won't reveal what games I dl'd, so please don't ask. They are no longer on my phone.

I think most Americans aren't aware that gyp refers to gypsy. The plight of the Romani is not taught in any school and for the longest time, I thought it was spelled "jip". Most people just wouldn't even make the connection. "Gypsy" doesn't even have a negative connotation here either.

Not to say that the use of the word is acceptable (once you've been educated).
Yet every time a non-American falls foul of some watermelon reference, REEE and the BCT goes ballistic saying that ignorance is no excuse.

Don't fall for their faux outrage trap. The use of the word xenophobia as I pointed out was strategic to tie the movement to negative things. Its interesting to see the same accounts signal.boosting that read of HK grievances as well

The next step is to paint the protests as far-right , western and they can handwave all issues away as not legitimate.

I’m on HK side of the issue, but let’s not pretend some protesters started to sound pretty darn xenophobic unprompted (though some is genuinely because language barriers than bigotry).

The protesters are toast, one had a scuffle with a cop and stole his baton so the cop went for his gun. It nearly ended with the first death.
Apparently they held someone 'hostage' in their group and denied emergency services to take him away.

They've got so little support from the international community that China can soon justify a massive police sweep.

I think gypsies have been so far out of the (American) cultural eye since that started being used, people have no idea the term and gypsies are related. I've seen it spelled a variety of ways too (jip, etc.), which further obscures the original meaning for those being introduced to it.

Not to excuse it but I can see why awareness would be lower. And this is my ignorance speaking, but in the latter 20th century and the 21st I associate gypsies more closely with Europe.
