To be fair though, even though it is cheap, a dry Riesling is something that always tastes at least tolerable.

I like Riesling quite a bit (Dönnhoff ) but at sub 5€ retail I'll certainly have no expectations and be apprehensive. There's no lack of choice at all price points for that variety either.

Some of the Aldi/Lidl wines are drinkable. The Grüner Veltliner Aldi is selling here for example is really good.

Yeah that's why I find it's difficult to estimate all this in an abstract. You can find perfectly serviceable wine, sometimes little gems punching way above their price (to riff on a favorite Star Citizen cliché) even, at the 3-5€ range. However it also gives an idea of the bar set for the rest of that meal and the sort of price point they went with when contracting with a caterer / restaurant, I'd say. Even under the understanding that most of those 275 bucks go to the game, I'd expect something a little more exclusive. Then again that's probably why I am not a Star Citizen backer.

I'm always a bit at being overly jaded and skeptical at those accusations. Domestic and sexual abuse isn't so uncommon that nothing alleged here sounds ludicrous on its face. Some parts and anecdotes in those stories used as supporting bits do make me wonder if they were really as ominous as they appear ex post facto like the Skyrim composer ranting on and on about muses and using his sexual experiences as inspiration... In a vacuum, I could see this as trite and not especially healthy. But without knowing the man, who knows ? It's not super relevant here anyway because my understanding is that she alleges she wasn't in a relationship with him and there was no ambiguity on her part she didn't want to fuck him despite his advances, it's less of a gray area than a relationship where one side feels, on reflection, some boundaries were crossed.

It's like the "he progressively isolated me, his friends gaslit me" that you can read somewhat often in those stories... I dunno, it's pointedly implying some overt intentionality where it could be unconscious. Then again the latter isn't really an excuse so what the fuck do I know.

It's probably just because I'm a milquetoast square bland normie cishetero male but yeah the way those relationships are described always feels a bit alien to me. I don't really know if "videogames" or "nerd hobbies" have really something to do with it but I'm a bit floored at the emotional maladjustment of some of the dudes when those stories are outed.

I think the biggest problem is that they think standup specials are written like production movies. It's painfully obvious that they don't understand the fluidity (ha!) of joke sets and the money grab that are comedy specials.

The context is that Chappelle is saying outrageous things at his comedy show in an attempt to get you to laugh. That’s his style. I can’t actually imagine that he’s sincerely suggesting to an acquaintance from his past that he should kill himself because his life was/is comparatively worse than Anthony Bourdain’s. His skits from his old show, like Clayton Bigsby or Wayne Brady, are also conceptually absurd.

Comedy is subjective. Each person has a different threshold on what they find funny. For some, the trans jokes are where they draw the line. And that’s OK. But I’m not going to pass judgment that Chappelle is a transphobic bigot because he’s cracking these jokes at a comedy club where he’s expected to play a persona. If he’s actively campaigning against the community when the lights are off, then that’s a different story.
