Can we please stop all this mean spirited bullying and focus it on the truly vile people that deserve it like shosta?

Is shosta a dangerous threat to world peace who needs to be eliminated?
August 20, 2017 - The New York Times, Adam Minter, The New York Times Magazine, Nicholas Confessore, Rebecca Dana, William D. Cohan, Elizabeth C. Beatty, Brian Heyman, Anatole Kaletsky, Nicholas Kristof
Is shosta a dangerous threat to world peace who needs to be eliminated?

In “The New Expats,” Adam Minter writes,

In Russia and China, the fringe phenomenon of studying and hyping to the extreme the idea of negotiating with the Taliban is now producing far-right leaders — and it could herald the collapse of the fragile process of stabilizing Afghanistan’s nascent democracy.

There is a fascinating name for it, shosta. This term is the bizarre amalgam of the honorific honorific “shirod” in Russian and “shoga,” the proud, militant name of people who make up Afghanistan’s Taliban insurgency.

The Kremlin and its fellow travelers also practice another peculiar system for arranging its insurgency; they call it “shopepty,” shango, or shopper. Often parroted by Russia’s media, those peculiarities were also explained by Ramzan Kadyrov, the president of Chechnya, to Andrew Korybko, a Russian political analyst.

“Is Shosta a dangerous threat to world peace who needs to be eliminated?” is the title of a column by Nicholas Confessore in The New York Times Magazine. To find out, we’ve sought out Reshma Saujani, the creator of Girls for Girls International and Policy for Women, to find out who is behind this cult of shosta and where we can find people following their tactics.

We found a guy calling himself Peshwari . Some think that is a variant of Montani, Montani being slang for defectors and old stories about Russian exiles in Afghanistan. Others thought it’s Montani as in machine gun or Nagli, or what you might call a mouthful in the Hindi language used in Afghanistan. Whatever the case, he is a flunky in Russia’s “Shoop Shat” (“low intelligence”) brigades — that is, military units built especially for the fight against international jihadism. Here’s why Peshwari, rather than the more common Nagli, might be part of a virtual clique of shopping boys.

Peshwari and his fellow shopping boys have been building up support for the Taliban with drugs, their duds and forged documents from Pakistan. He charges between $2,500 and $5,000 for a fake ID.

ResetERA.com is the largest independent video game forum on the internet as measured by traffic.
December 31, 2014 - David Nakamura, John F. Harris
Twenty years ago, Reddit launched the internet era with its elite “front page of the internet.” Today, a nearly identical video-game forum now dominates it.

ResetERA is the largest independent video game forum on the internet, according to various metrics, and for the past two years it has surpassed Reddit and other leading forums as the most-visited site on the internet.

ResetERA got a boost this year when a Russian hacker launched the biggest cyberattack ever against it, he says, a case prosecutors allege was perpetrated for the purpose of embarrassing ResetERA for supporting a now-banned Russian troll farm.

The forum has a strategy of not engaging in escalating war between feuding factions on its forums, which is analogous to his team not engaging in conflict with his fellow members of an academic discussion group.

That allows ResetERA to survive despite competitors, which sometimes inject spambots into other forums and threaten to ban ResetERA in retaliation for its positions.

“It’s counter-productive,” said Lewis, now the senior editor at the Unofficial Xbox Magazine. “They don’t want to be at the center of the community when the community is fighting.”

Still, ResetERA has been subjected to several industry-wide shutdowns over the years. And earlier this year, Slate ended its relationship with ResetERA after its writer Jason Pankoke criticized ResetERA for its policy against discussing gaming quality. ResetERA went from providing a large swath of the Unofficial Xbox Magazine’s free content to paying for it in order to maintain its flexibility, Lewis said.

ResetERA.com is the largest independent video game forum on the internet as measured by traffic.
August 20, 2018 - Benjamin Nicolussi, Kathryn Bowers, Ap, Tijana Martin
TORONTO -- Beginning with a game of "Pokemon Go" and posing questions like "What are the rules for throwing a, like, actual Pokeball in the real world?" ResetERA.com is the top-ranking "outside, non-Google owned" video game forum.

Chris Giordano, co-founder of ResetERA, says the site's long history of hosting users' questions on a variety of topics has enabled its users to ask the kinds of questions game developers want to answer.

What are the rules for throwing a, like, actual Pokeball in the real world? https://t.co/yWFAsDZbWn — ResetERA (@restartaretra) August 17, 2018

"The whole thing is so embedded in our culture, people are coming to us with questions," Giordano told The Washington Post. "We see ourselves as a kind of a purveyor of thought."

RestartERA.com, founded in 2014 and recently acquired by The Washington Post, is a leader in the growing video game community - both the gaming giants, like Nintendo and Microsoft, as well as smaller communities like that for "Pokemon Go" players. It is also the largest independently owned video game forum on the internet, according to data from analytics firm ComScore.

The site is composed of nearly 500 communities, with a focus on virtual reality and video games.

About 80 percent of the forum's traffic comes from online downloads, such as for "Pokemon Go," but the remaining traffic is streaming video.

The site is also growing quickly in the United States and is popular in other countries, as well. It hit a peak of about 3.2 million daily unique visitors in August, up from 2.5 million at the beginning of the year, according to ComScore.

RestartERA was the creation of Giordano and Cameron Cavanagh, who initially launched the website in honor of the Xbox One. They let players request a virtual version of their PlayStation 4 from participating locales around the world. When asked, and accepting the offer, users could send an invitation code to Xbox. In August 2014, Cavanagh launched ResetERA with only five communities, he said.

When the Xbox One launched in 2013, Giordano and Cavanagh wanted to create a gaming community for it. Rather than pitch his idea to Microsoft, as the gaming giant did when they sought an outlet for the console, Giordano proposed it to friends he knew in the gaming community, he said.

Since then, the game industry has undergone a dramatic shift. Though the Nintendo Switch recently sold more than 17 million units in a year, four years after launch, and 16 years after the introduction of the original Nintendo, the evolution of video games has come largely outside of traditional console models.

And the online communities that originated on game forums are being extended to Snapchat, Instagram and other platforms, giving thousands of new potential users the ability to engage with games and industry figures that might have otherwise been inaccessible to them.

"People with a wide variety of interests are coming to us," Giordano said. "We've doubled our traffic in the last 12 months."

RestartERA, a blog that focuses on virtual reality and gaming, will be part of The Washington Post.

But anyway, like I said:l I gave up on Rah trying to improve so I just say he's an "incel" because I know it'll rile him up (just like Nacho knows poking at him will rile him up) and oh what do you know like clockwork it does. I see 5 posts from him, :no1curr scoll past them while laughing because I know he put in the time to fucking write shit that I don't give a fuck about saying I should kill myself or whatever and move to other better posters.
Not gonna lie, I read this paragraph like 4 times like “what exactly are you trying to say you sassy bitch??”

Then I realized it wasn’t about me at all.

Then I remembered I don’t even post around here enough for anyone to care enough to treat me like shit like they do Rah.

Why does timu fight so hard for the title of sassiest forum bitch? No ones fighting you for it cuh

Is it Sassy that I legitimately wanted Rah to stop being "FUCK WOMEN, THEY'RE ALL BITCHES AND WHORES" incel-dom to the point I (granted, yelling, yes) tried to drill it into his head that his problems were all mental and attitude? Andy-kun would've done him if Rah was gay but Rah is all "EWWWWWWWWW I'M NOT A HOMO"/missing the point to the point of :jeanluc "You're a fucking idiot, dude, way to miss the point" that it's not worth my fucking while to do anything but call him an incel and see him post 5 posts telling me to kill myself, sensible chuckle because he's still a pathetic incel that probably still can't get laid despite the relationship thread attempting (and failing becuase he's a fucking clueless idiot that still won't get context [see: Andy-kun reference, again] ) and attempt to improve.

So while I'm thankful he wanted my suicide attempt(s) to be untrue: Frankly, I don't give a fuck what he thinks because I've gotten tired of him flipping out over someone having a disagreement with him because he can't fucking process shit (Himu/Cindy and FF7 and Rah sperging out becuase they disagree on shit). Just like me attempting to help him get out of that incel-mindset of hating women because they won't fucking touch his penis because he's a shitdick that will murder one of them eventually just to have sex with one.

Because if that's sassy, by god and country I guess I am sassy.

:yeshrug It is what is is.

But if you're serious about me being "sassy" beyond Rah: Well, that's just how I am. :trumps
This is one of the dumbest and most nonsensical pieces of shit I've ever read on here.

"I want someone's attitude to change, so I'm going to be an aggressive asshole to them".

I have never been an incel and I am sure not one now. Why you can't fucking get that through you're head I'm not sure, beyond the fact that you are one of the saddest mothe fuckers on here. "Oh I don't read and skip all of the dudes posts....don't mind the fact that I seem to show up and without fail like every single post that digs aginst this person".

And the thing is you don't even know what you're talking about. I never said "fuck women, they are all whores and bitches". No all my self hate and attitude problems were always aimed inward, not outward and any "incel like posts" were made out of either anger or whatever were quickly reascended.

And it dosen't matter because it's been years since that was even close to the satus quo which you seem to not understand. I have had a gf and had plenty of sex over the last 2 years and I almost have another one right now. So no I don't like being called an incel. When you can look at the relationship thread over the past year and a half and that has not at all been how I've acted. Have I been annoying? For sure. Have I acted like some mens right douche who calls women bitches. Not at all and how fucking dare you claim otherwise.

I have made a lot of progress in life and no one here should have some douche constantly attack them and call them a potential murder when they don't know what the fuck they are talking about.

Quite frankly you are a giant asshole. You can claim I special fellow out when arguing about shit like FF, which I'll be the first to admit to. But you are one of the most aggressive try hards on this forum. No one posts on here come off as such a pathetic "LOOK AT HOW RIGHT I AM" as yours do and I know I'm not the only one here who thinks that.

"lol I'm just baiting him"

"Yes you're baiting is so funny when you call me a misogynist and claim I'm going to to murder people.

"Lol even Nachbro knows how to poke you"

Yeah what a great poking job the douche was doing by throwing a break up in my face when arguing about Blizzard and Hong Kong. Yeah that was funny. What special fellow like behavior for not liking that.

You are a sad person. I get in heated arguments with pretty much every other poster here, but pretty much every single one of them ends the same. They fucking get over it and chill. And no one here has any ill will towards each other. Except you, because you are the definition of a bitter sad sack. You want to talk about people's attitudes. Yeah, maybe the person constantly trying to troll and bait someone by calling them a murder should be the last person to do that.

And since you can't get off my dick. here it is fucking pussy.

:marimo

I'm off this forum. It's become extremely toxic and obnoxious thanks to shit posters like you, this Lonewulfeus  fuck and pretty much all the gaf rejects who come here just to post in this forum because they can't help but mock other nerds.

Do you play all your PC games at low resolution and with low settings?

And if not, why not?
I stopped playing games on pc because of issues like this.I didn't play on lower settings because the world tells me that it's "objectively better" and I keep thinking that maybe itll one day click. But then today, watching Switcher videos i just came to this realization. Maybe in the future I will try this. But I think you can agree even just looking at the responses of this thread that people will call you sick in the head if you can even handle anything less than the absolute most numbered graphics.

how could he hate that movie? Further proving he is trash, beside his shitty defenses of Terminator time travel logic.

Riotous: interesting that in that thread Blue Manifest comes across almost passive aggressive about valve having its own service lol. Someone also needs to inform him that not every steam game through GeForce now works. Some games are supported, some give a warning and then run, and others won’t run at all and indicate they will note that you had an interest in running it.

Personally, I’d still own a gaming pc but a monthly sub to my 1000+ owned steam games, with workshop support to play on any device? I’d probably sign up. Hell they could even offer “cloud processing” for certain games if they want to totally stomp stadia into the dirt.

Not a fan of streaming but the majority of my pc gaming depends on the internet to connect to valves server for licensing already, so I’d be the most comfortable with them handling a streaming future.

I mean.. on one hand.. bringing my Steam library to cloud gaming huge +

On the other hand;  Valve aren't Google, they are unlikely to have the server architecture Google does.

On the third hand.. Valve is down the road from me, so maybe their servers will be closest lol

They could just use another’s infrastructure (aws, azure, google *lol*). I’m just enjoying seeing Blue Manifest get pissy.

The Wither 3 has never been more visually appealing to me than it does on Switch.

EDIT: I haven't even bought it on switch, I played it on PC and then have watched videos about the switch port like the Digital Foundry one and had this thought.

does the Witcher 3 on Switch has the same kind of visual appeal as staring intensely at a toilet bowl full of diarrhea?

Another interesting thing about cloud streaming is I wonder what the energy usage is going to be when anyone with a good connection is utilizing a 10tf blade. Sure not everyone will be using it at all times but when 3 billion people can now use it because all it costs is internet, and they all have fiber internet before even running water, I’m betting the usage is going to be a lot higher than the current 200 million gamers or whatever.

TLDR: if I have to wait in a queue to play my single player games because streaming let in too many people I’m gonna be pissy.

 :rage

edit: I wonder why valve would partner with google though, they seem like direct competitors. Unless somehow stadia is gonna have steam access and steam have google stadia blade access. The meltdowns would be epic lol. Although thinking on it, play your steam library on google stadia (valve gets a cut, and so does google?) and “play stadia powered games on steam/stream your steam library via stadia (proton?). This would seem to really diminish googles entry tho?

That’s good it works for you. My local isp offers plans of up to 200 Mbps down and ....5 up (!!?!). I swear isps in America are such an awful racket. I did try the steam link app on my phone at home and it worked great over my local 5ghz wifi it was a trip seeing yakuza 0 running on my 6s, but other than gaming on the crapper at the moment I’d have no use for it, was neat to see though.

Riotous: yeah I’m not sure if it’s gonna totally take off and even if it did, I think we are a lot longer time a way from losing local compute devices such as pc/laptop/tablet/smartphone etc, than we are to losing a single function box like a console or DVD player.

But I like to face the worst case scenario (everything is a stream) and see how it is. I was surprised it worked as well as it did on GeForce now. Like I said I like mods, and open “ecosystems” that a pc allows, but I wanted to see if “worst case all streaming” was still doable and it was. But I’d still lament the loss of local options, like how we lost modding for FPS games over the years, or took for granted valve would actually make the kind of games we assumed they always would, see also Blizzard/Bethesda/etc.

have you discussed the proprietary hal being used to instance the apis for games between platforms to unify the developer facing toolkit to better get through the workflow?

Am I off base here?  This convo is killing me/hurting my brain.
Modern consoles are basically PCs, and not even particularly good PCs. They have a full OS with all the non-deterministic performance that comes with it. Very few games are written in a bespoke manner, they're made inside of game engines designed to conform to multiple platform APIs with multiple backend renderer support.

The point the person was trying to make is basically invalid, and fanboyish hopium about something that doesn't even exist yet. The idea that developers are going to alter their workflow for something that could be game-changing as the Roku or Ouya is hilariously naive and largely non-applicable.

OpenGL is generally less performant than DirectX, and Vulkan is relatively new and support is spotty. It's largely on the game engine to support Vulkan in a (just werx) way. I suspect there are fewer gamedevs than ever who are familiar with the lower levels of the graphics libraries as engines have tried to abstract it away from them.

I think it was just misunderstanding. His pc is a multispec target platform, your pc is a multispec windows box. I think he’s arguing that since stadia is single spec we will get more “to the metal secret sauce” like developer performance.

In practice I doubt any third parties will do much with the stadia spec. I’m thinking maybe something like tomb raider now with nvidia stadia hair FX! Most games will be constrained by the next gen consoles spec regardless.

Now in the far future (decade?) when consoles are done? Then it’ll be power of the cloud mania, and also when I see most games become “streaming only” whether it’s truly required or not (hint it won’t be, but it’s the ultimate drm so it will happen.

The idea of being a fanboy for Stadia is so distasteful. How can a reasonably informed consumer even advocate for such a position? The idea of locking software/games on a server never to be truly accessed by consumers is a scary future. SaaS is the ultimate form of DRM and a violation of user freedom. The gaming community has a lot to lose from this, and reduces consumer independence.

Corporate bootlickers, they have to be paid shills, it's the only reasonable answer.
