I guess the question is then- is the game fine when not playing split-screen?

I would imagine by the lack of reviews no, but I'm sure split screen will make it a worse experience overall

OK by me.  If I even get this, it won't be until it's A) on Steam and B) dirt cheap.

From REEEE:

Quote
Wow, the subtitles seem broken (splitscreen, PS4 Pro) as hell, especiall in cutscenes. And the UI in general is waaaay too small. Has to be a record. There's so much space that's unused, ridicolus design. We can barely read our ammo let alone quest descriptions etc.

Aside from a very mediocre perfomance in both performance and resolution mode while playing splitscreen, this is very disapointing. :(

Menus are laggy as hell, even more in splitscreen.

As a couch-coop experience this is actually worse than Borderlands 2 and TPS on PS3 and only barely playable without getting headaches.

No wonder there were no console reviews, f*** 2k and Gearbox.

Did they seriously not send out console codes for review?
:neogaf
Nope, they sent out...epic games store profiles that had a very busted pre release build on them!

Will pick it up tomorrow. Looking forward to it. I was worried it would end up going down the destiny shooter loot route and super glad it didn't.

Played for a few hours tonight and dug it.

Lots of nice quality of life improvements since BL 2.

Mantling feels good. Sliding feels good. Driving which I always hated and made other people do feels better

Individual loot is amazing and fixed my#1 issue when I play with my selfish friends.

I still wish there was a mod system in place so that you could turn common gear into something cool like in say Path of Exile but I liked what I saw from what I played.

I don't watch Jim Sterling much, but I just wanna give him props for being sure to point out in his Borderlands 3 review that Randy Pitchford left a thumb drive with teen squirt porn at a Medieval Times, which some reviewers are forgetting to mention.

And why is that important for a game review again?

Oh come on take the sand outta your vagina. Jim likes the game, but I'm sure you didn't watch the video or you'd know that.

I think it’s funny either way, and Jim is a comedic YouTuber so I don’t have any issue with it at all just don’t know why it deserves props, it’s fairly predictable considering Jim’s content.  But don’t know why any other normal reviewer would mention it.

Knowing this fact and thinking about it constantly is paramount to my enjoyment of the game.

The sound mixing in this game is really really bad.

I'm level 18 at the moment and just
spoiler (click to show/hide)
beat the first vault boss and moved to the third planet

there's so many hilarious bugs in this game like flying right off into space, and then there are some infuriating ones like the UI lag and being frozen for 5 fucking seconds sometimes when things get hectic

Beat the game.

The loot is absolutely terrible for pretty much 80% of the game - only when you get the occasional orange unique guns/etc is when you start to really have some fun.

I used FL4K and he's pretty shit until you level up and start building up the trees to stack buffs / make your pet stronger.

Played all 4 classes now through various points in the game. Really fun stuff. Having a blast playing through a little each night with friends. Think I will buy the season pass next time it goes on sale.

Watching some 4-player gameplay of B3 makes me sad that it doesn't have Rage 2's combat. Or that Rage 2 didn't have multiplayer and loot. I'd take either combination.

Recently finished up my first two characters to complete the game. I really liked it. The campaign felt crazy long for me with all the side missions which is a good thing.

The story probably wasn't as good as borderlands 2 but I didn't hate it or anything. As mentioned above I thought the gun play was great compared to the prior games and I agree about the particle effects. The combat looks bat shit crazy and cool with all the effects going off.

I'll wait for the season pass to hit discount prices before I pick it up myself.

First DLC coming Dec 19

Jumping back into this briefly since Destiny has settled down for a bit. Messed with the Halloween stuff, it's pretty basic stuff, you kill ghosts, then do a mini-strike (feels very Destiny in structure) and hope you get loots.

Yesterday they released a free update that added the first "raid boss" (called a Takedown now). It's meant for 4 players (and you can matchmake to find people) but you could obviously solo it if you have a fat cock.

Structure is pretty simple - kill lots of shit, then you get to the "boss" encounter. If you die, you can't respawn and have to spectate. You all die, and you start back over to the nearest checkpoint and start again (meaning kill all the trash mobs again).

The boss fight was pretty cool - I did it on Normal mode because I just wanted to try it out, but I might bump up a Mayhem level or two.

They also added Mayhem 4 which is just basically "buff the enemy health to who the fuck caresville" and you get more loots. I've been using it to farm the Gravemind boss since it's easy enough. Lots of nerfs/buffs since launch, but my FL4K crit build seems to feel just fine - though I did tweak it a little bit based on some recommendations. All I can do at this point is farm for specific guns and mods with specific perks. So... Destiny.

Interesting email sent to Giantbomb.

tl;dw Claptrap sidequest in the free DLC might be a dig at Claptrap's former voice actor.

Trying (in vain, so far) to find video of that quest dialogue.

I played this dlc.  Didn't really take it that way in context, seems like a reach.

Basically he tells lilith to piss off because he's investing in his own "cryptocurrency", and you humor him on his scheme which involves literal mines, and blocks with chains on them, it fails horribly, like all claptrap schemes, and then begs lilith for his old job back.  The entire time she's just replying to him "...kay."  It felt....internally consistent with how the rest of the cast usually treats claptrap.

That aside, his new voice is definitely leaning more into annoying than.....cheerful-but-because-there's-a-gun-to-his-head-programatically-hiding-a-deep-well-of-sadness.  I don't enjoy him as much.
