Ya but fripp is the only good part of prog rock. It's a bad genre of music, like one notch above jazz fusion tier.

kind of hard to fully agree when much of krautrock is basically prog. however i don't necessarily disagree with your statement

prog rock and thrash/death/jazz fusion metal aren't the same genres and shouldn't be compared.

If Pink Floyd can be considered prog rock, and I think it should be, that's the peak of the genre. Them and selected Rush is the only 70-ish prog rock I have the stomach for.

Also, thumbs down for not including Cynic, breh.

Traced In Air >>>>

Cynic is more actual prog rock than those other bands. They are just thrash/death with some jazz fusion licks sprinkled in. By that token you can almost count Alex Skolnick era Testament as prog  :lol Except for Gorguts, they are pretty much their own thing.

Anyways like I said.

Prog rock is gdlk.

Us and Them is incredible. The lyrics, the saxophone, the transitions. The transition from Us and Them into Any Colour You Like proves that the album experience is superior to singles. That transition is so good it makes me question how the fuck it was done because it was so expertly crafted I almost refuse to believe that humans had a hand in creating it. And that's not even the sole amazing transition in the album. Time into Great Gig into the Sky is proof that God is real and with us and worked as an avatar within the man named David Gilmour.

Unfortunately I cannot find a single clip of both songs together on youtube so I'll time stamp the album.

Transition starts near-ish 14:25.

Time - 7:34
Great Gig In The Sky - 14:41

Us and Them - 25:57
Any Colour You Like - 33:38

I cannot remember the first time I listened to Dark Side of the Moon. All I know is I remember before and after I listened to it. It literally changed my expectations and standards of music and how an album is expected to be and how it should make me feel. Like hip hop is great and all, but I can't think of a single hip hop record that makes me feel the way I do when I listen to Dark Side of the moon or Wish You Were Here. I hate to say it but it's an inferior artform.

Top 5 album.

I am an utter Pink Floy STAN. I would suck those British boys dicks even now in their old age.

Other awesome prog bands. Good Lord I could talk about prog rock all day.

King Crimson is cool.

I REALLY like Yes.

Also it's almost impossible for me to not consider David Bowie prog rock despite him almost never considered a part of the genre.

The best of Low really drill in his penchant for it despite the Eno contributions.

Is it ambient? Electronic? Rock? Jazz? I just define it as prog and leave it there. Subterraneans :lawd

David, call me a hot tramp.

Bah gawd. :lawd

Check out Steven Wilson's entire discography if you haven't, nao!

At least check out The Raven That Refused To Sing that features the majestic Guthrie Govan on guitar.

How are you gonna have a prog rock thread go this long without anybody posting some classic ELO bangers?

Prog rock seemed to inspire tons of classic video game music so I like the instrumentation. But usually the singing turns me off.

Katatonia continue to blow my mind. I was very glad to hear they were going back on tour. Hopefully a new album will be following.
