It was a good game, but gotg? No wonder last gen was so bad.

Is that why there's been tons of remasters from the 360/PS3/Wii-U libraries?  :-*

Every videogame gen since the NES has been fantastic, you have to be uber spoiled to feel otherwise. 2013 was the weakest year last gen, which is understandable, that being year 7/8.

Even JRPGs were still thriving on handhelds last gen, console JRPGs, not so much.
OH!

The only reason I can think of why they're not doing remasters of games like Need for Speed Underground other than the exotic self developed engines they used made by developers who no longer work there.

If bet as a veteran developer you could make a fuckton of money if you made a tool to decompile RenderWare, EAGL and UE3 titles.
Criterion managed to get Burnout Paradise Remastered, it was the last game on RenderWare.

Speaking of which, they just shut down the online for the original game this month.

EA is no longer using Unreal Engine, which is what Mass Effect 1/2/3 were build on but insists on Frostbite for all their shit.

The PS3 version of ME1 already didn't have the Pinnacle Station DLC because the source code of that DLC was corrupted.
And from what I understand 1 is by now nigh impossible to remaster due to the fact that they lost the source code.

Without 1 you can't remaster the others and without the source code it would be very difficult to do (you'd basically have to re-do the game from scratch).
Mass Effect's problem is the assets, they weren't made for it, they'd have to redo them all.

aaaaand the Lead Producer of Dragon Age 4 has left the building after the guy that headed up Anthem already left.

DA4 will be a GaaS live service AAA micro-transaction experience!

Press F to pay respects to BioWare

I don't consider 3ds last gen. Consoles and handhelds are separate from each other.

Could be worse:

Himu, post if you're okay:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1026680/FINAL_FANTASY_VIII__REMASTERED/

(the reviews)

:yikes

To think you basically are repaying for the previous Steam version (with the same achievements, in fact!) with just slightly changed/modded models.

At least EA puts out functional bad ports and games. Whereas Square seems to put in no effort to their ports.

Maybe instead of charging $20 for a modded character model release, you just... put that in the $10 port you already released on the service? :thinking

EA with all their departures and moving studios around has been pretty bad at archiving their shit.

It wouldn't surprise me if they lost the source code of nearly all of their non-sports titles.

If bet as a veteran developer you could make a fuckton of money if you made a tool to decompile RenderWare, EAGL and UE3 titles.

People only just recently managed to de-compile Super Mario 64 into semi human readable code that can be re-compiled into a functioning game. Reverse engineering a UE3 game is at least 1 order of magnitude more difficult.

From a final retail copy of each build? Yes.

With access to any kind of developer tools, documentation, debug ROM, or partial source code? Nah.
