Really goes to show how much we live in our bubbles. None of my friends of family would dream of voting Tory. The online spaces I patronise are the same. People on here think I'm right-wing ffs. And yet clearly most of the country feels completely differently.

I'm a Conservative voter but I try and read a wide variety of sources for news to avoid this problem. I post and read here, on 4chan, The Telegraph, The Guardian, FT, The Times, and The Independent. I'm sure I'm in the minority on this site and that's fine by me, but engaging and reading a wide range of opinions, often times going out of my "comfort zone" has certainly helped my world view and opened my eyes to issues I may have glossed over before.

I have been feeling bad for the people in the UK, but it's wasted concern. It's a self-inflicted wound they got three years ago and then just keep digging in so hard, it's ridiculous. Honestly, at this point, the Brits probably deserve everything bad that will be happening to the majority of them, and it's hilarious how rich their new PM is gonna get with all the shady deals he will be setting up with the vultures heading in to feast (US, Russia, and China). funny story, so at work we did a toy collection for the salvation army, and you'll never guess what happened next, one of the more liberal members of staff (she's bi) went and complained
because of them being anti LGBT when asked if they'd like to do something different, they said no, but you guys should had not done the toy drive and done what I said "clothes for the homeless instead"
So basically, fuck you for doing a nice thing for kids who are in need, but am I fuck going to do something myself for a cause I believe in.

and now it turns out that turnout was down from the last two elections

Most people still haven‘t figured out that twitter is not an indicator of the real world.
It is the same in marketing, everyone talks about social media engagement and all that jazz and wonders why their stuff didn‘t sell even after they got a million likes on twitter.

i think labour scare-mongering so much in the election about the NHS has been an extra disaster as it’s completely failed as an electoral strategy but has succeeded in making a lot of labour voters very scared and anxious

worth pointing out that the tory manifesto really does commit to a lot of extra NHS spending for the future, unlike osborne and hammond, the costs of extra privatisation are stupid but relatively small compared to the billions going in (like under new labour where they spent so much it didn’t matter that pfi was inefficient) and the stuff about trump just means extra pharmaceutical down the line costs not selling off the nhs entirely. by 2024 the nhs will probably be in better state than now.
